XB1 Elite Controller ($150)

C'mon, Valve controller.
Tons of R&D, new tech and a far smaller company then Microsoft.

Can you manage an explanation without shitting on others this time?

Valve controller is a controller for people who want to play games that are traditionally only playable with a mouse and less of a controller for competitive gaming.

Different markets.

At times like this, it really is a reflection of the Neogaf user base.

Either this site is full of children with no income, people living at the poverty line, or those who will never earn more than the minimum wage.

The amount of people crying over a $150 is eye opening.

Guess what? This isn't a requirement. It's apparently a premium product and somewhat of a premium price.

And if by some chance, a $150 is enough to make you question your life and how this purchase might put you out on the street, you're in the wrong hobby and this elite controller isn't for you.

LOL you sure showed us common folk our place, keep it up, Mr 1%

That just tells me the other devices are overpriced. Why does this controller, and similar ones, cost $150?

Lol what kind of question is this? Why does anything cost what it does? It's all about the market it's being put into. They saw that premium custom controllers are $150 or more. They priced it there. I don't know how much went into making the controller, but what I do know is you can't get a better custom controller for cheaper (Unless this controller turns out to be shit, which I find unlikely).

Why does Photoshop cost hundreds of dollars? It's just code. It costs them basically nothing to let you download it. Why isn't it $5? Because time and money went into making it.

A bit of sticker shock at $150; But in context good fight sticks cost a pretty penny, to say nothing how much wheels cost.

It seems a versatile bit of kit and may get one down the road.

People “should not be forced to use cheap plastic controllers, suffer with substandard triggers or apologize for wanting their d-pad to transform,” Yuhas fumed recently on social media. “We pay significant retail prices based on our play requirements,” he added in an interview. “And, no, we’re not all equal when it comes to mad skillz.”

“I think we’re being overly penalized, and we’re certainly being overly scrutinized by the world,” said Gay Butler, a Titanfall player out for a trail ride on her giant robot, Bear. She said her controller bill averages about $800 a month.

“I call it the war on the hardcore,” said Brett Barbre, who lives in the Orange County community of Yorba Linda, another exceptionally wealthy Zip code.

Barbre sits on the 37-member board of directors of the Metropolitan USB District of Southern California, a huge button wholesaler serving 17 million customers. He is fond of referring to his Elite controller with Charlton Heston’s famous quote about guns: “They’ll have to pry it from my cold, dead hands.”

“Xbox used to be the land of opportunity and freedom,” Barbre said. “It’s slowly becoming the land of one group telling everybody else how they think everybody should live their lives.”

;)

I'll pass, especially at $150.

Aside from the bumpers (which are being reworked anyway), I'm happy with the regular Xbox One controller. Plus I've got the Steam Controller preordered.

OneOneSeven, your post is very condescending...

I mean if they want to charge 150 for this thing then go ahead, but unless it somehow fixes the heavy flaws of an analog stick controller then I'm fine with sticking with what I got, but hey, if there's a market for it go ahead, there's people who pay hundreds of dollars for arcade sticks.

My hope is that they overstock this thinking there's a market and the price drops dramatically. I'd probably pay 50-80 dollars for this, but I'd rather have 3 games then a new controller

Yeah, let's blame the consumers. Regardless of how much money you make, dumb pricing strategies are still dumb. I make more than enough, I still won't buy it.

Even that said, you shouldn't be grouping people together, it makes you look dumb as hell.

How is the price dumb? Seems perfectly in line with contemporaries to me.

$150 is a lot for a controller, would have considered at $100.

Though seeing that SCUFs are around $200 I'm not really surprised. Wonder why those did not cause an outrage...

More complex equipments tend to break easier so buying this day one will be a gamble. If the reception is good couple months after release, I'm gonna buy one cuz it looks awesome.

Because those are amazing custom controllers made by the little guys.

This is big bad Microsoft trying to screw over gamers!

Probably the same reason why 300 keyboards don't cause an outrage. It's a totally avoidable market for those who don't want to pay the steep entry price.

EDIT: oh you mean as opposed to the MS controllers? Yeah I think A_Gorrilla answered that pretty well.

Hint: Only one was announced at E3 with a ton of hype and fanfare.

Sticker shock. Precisely. I had a moment of "oh fuck no" when I saw the title update. By the time I read the last page I calmed down.

In fact.... I've actually wished for premium controller for a long time. I'd be interested in this on any platform I play on.

It depends on the quality if the $150 price tag is worth it. I'd be in for something similar on PS4 if I held it in my hands and determined it was better than the DS4 and didn't feel cheap.

TBH If you want cheap microsoft products wait a few months after release I cant wait till people cry about getting screwed over for buying it at that price.

This just tells me that you need to review basic economics.

We've already had that review in this thread.
It was something in the line of "it will cost what people are willing to pay"

So why is it such a problem when some of those people are complaining?

I see a lof of peeps dont see what this thing does and comes with which is three joystick head types, along with two types of paddle and two types of d-pads. Shit is boss.

Because they're optional controllers aimed at those that want more and are willing to pay more.

I understand why people are freaking out about the price point breaking past the psychological ceiling for what seems reasonable for a controller. Folks are welcome to link to a comparable controller offering sold for less. I don't want to pay more than I have to for those features for those platforms, either.

lol you're the one calling basically everybody on gaf a cheap fuck

No. I was talking about the many people in this thread specifically that are scoffing at the price like someone insulting their parents.

People are behaving like Phil Spencer is creating a secret force that will break into everyone's house at night, steal their controllers, and force them to buy this thing.

It's really not that difficult. If someone thinks this is too expensive, it's not for them.

The only thing that those people reinforce is either their deep desire to own the product, but can't. Or their need to trash Microsoft for whatever reason.

Who knows. Maybe this thing will fail and be on sale for half the price 6 months after release. I'm sure at that time, people will complain about paying that much for a failed product. It really never ends.

You can complain about the price all you want, nothing wrong with that. But when you start asking us WHY things cost as much as they do, don't be surprised if rudimentary economics is your answer.

Same as the old Sidewinder stuff. It'll be well worth it for the peeps who'll put it to good use.

Everyone else?

Stick with what you have. This isn't for you, and if you're at all curious...wait several months. It's going to be a hell of a lot cheaper (and most likely bundled).

EDIT: Surprised at all of these "who is this for?" comments. You're just not popping into the right threads around here to notice, I guess.
