XB1 Elite Controller ($150)

For $150 there sure as hell better be good build quality. What's your gripe with the build quality of current XB1 controllers?

I imagine this is due to button mapping in that the colors could be misleading to the player. E.g., if jump is "A" and a player changes it to "Y," and a tutorial assists by showing a green button to press, then this could be an issue since a yellow button would need to be pressed. However, you'd think whoever was changing buttons like that would be able to discern the difference considering they created the difference.

It would be neat if MS added an API that devs could hook into that would allow their games to see the current mappings, and adjust the tutorials to match.

Still considering this but all these controllers are burning a hole in my wallet, I'm on my 3rd original controller. The 3.5mm jack built in is a huge plus and the upgraded bumpers. Might just go with this one - http://www.microsoftstore.com/store...ort-6-Wireless-Controller/productID.320119900
Actually a pretty tasteful design plus it has some of that textured grip on the back. Although I did notice it only is on the very back and not the sides like the elite has.

They most likely won't do that since most people won't buy a premium controller just for Halo.

But I am genuinely intrigued by the notion of themed components. For example a themed d-pad for Titanfall 2 that already has button functions printed on it.

I can't wait to put my TF controller shell on my Elite controller.

This is really cool, I'm a sucker for customization.

Is the stick tension adjustable? That's really the only thing I'd want to change about the normal controller, the sticks have little resistance.

I dont believe they are mechanically adjustable, but you may be able to achieve the desired result through the deadzone and sensitivity curve adjustments

Ruh oh. My pre order on Amazon says "delivery date pending" or "we will email you when available".

And while I know that an official date isn't known, I've never had this happen on a pre-order before. Anyone else that has one through Amazon, does your order say the same?

I'm kind of wondering if my order got bumped out of what they can fill, hence the we will email you when available. Of course this could all be normal and this literally means they will email me when the release date is known. If so my apologies. I've just never seen that status before with a pre-order.
I ordered off of Amazon too, and it says "we will email you when available", but I think that's just due to not knowing the release date yet.

This is my first time pre-ordering from them, but it's the same way with the Xbox dongle on Amazon as well.

Despite my initial reaction I just might buy one to use on my PC. If it lasts for a long time then it'll be worth the price. Customization is a bonus.

For anyone in the UK a quick heads up Amazon have now got this as currently unavailable and bastard GAME are now showing it as "ONLY AT GAME"

I will be a keeping a eye on my Amazon pre order and I would recommend anyone that has ordered this from anywhere but GAME to do the same.

Stick tension is determined by stick length. Putting Xbox One sticks on my dual shock 4 improved the tension (made it less tight). The Elite comes with really long sticks for super accuracy, really low sticks, and also sticks that are the height of the current Xbox One sticks.

That's the base price. Now add the necessary items to make it similar to the Elite and you're over 200 dollars but still without the ability to store settings for hundreds of games.

Oh, OK. My question stands then, don't you think this being much cheaper and more widely available will make it affect the average player more than these scuf controllers?

It is not much cheaper. Just look at the hundreds of comments in this thread about the price. As for more widely available? I'd say wait and see. The controller is already sold out on Amazon.de. Penello said that they don't expect to sell huge amounts. I don't think this will affect the average player.

I think you're overstating the advantage outside of high-level competitive play

For us normal people, it's mostly about comfort and convenience (fuck having to press in the sticks)

Besides, even without a special controller, competitors will just use the claw grip

Oh man, I just realized after reading that, I'll be able to map the left and right stick clicks to the paddles!

People actually grip a controller like that?

I didn't even think of that. I hate that stuff so much. Pre-order warranted.. haha.

Tension is partially determined by stick height. There is another factor as well. Since the PS4 and XB1 use the same analog module the only difference is stick height.

Personally I don't like the tension of the XB1 controller. Too loose. I would swap in shorter analog sticks in an instant if they were available.

Surprised this thread didn't get a bump when the controller was announced.

I wonder if later down the track the sync button can be changed to a screenshot button. They've already confirmed it can perform 2 functions. Surely its updateable.

I asked Stinkles to pass the idea of a screenshot function to the controller app guys and he said he'd look into it.

Well on Major Nelsons podcast, they interviewed the project lead. Single press syncs, long press or double press (I think) locks the buttons.

Surely they can add an option to make the secondary function a screen shot function in the app. No brainer.

I guess? I mean I would've preferred a dedicated button but they should be able to add that kind of functionality to one of the paddles or whatever. Here's what Stinkles had to say on the matter.

So if the Elite and the regular redesigned controller have 3.5mm jacks now, will the original launch headsets still work with the new controllers, or will we have to get new headsets to match our Elites?

Also, will any of this new technology described below in the redesigned controller be inside of the Elite as well?

With the updated controller, in addition to the volume and mute controls on gaming headsets, you'll also have the option to adjust headset volume, mic monitoring, and voice and game audio balance through the Settings menu on your console. We've also improved the quality of audio coming through the controller and increased the maximum audio volume on headsets used with this controller, based on fan feedback. And we've enabled wireless firmware updates on the updated controller which eliminates having to connect the controller via USB cable to receive updates.

The audio quality should be the exact same. All headsets will work as per normal.

I wonder what would be a better controller for pc gaming, this or the steam controller.

Depends on what games you are playing. Games with no controller support would be best placed on the steam controller.

Any one of the hundreds of console to PC ports available on steam, you'd probably want to use this.

Same as the redesigned controller or the original controller? And do you have a source?

Great news about the headsets.

edit: hey Ushae, I just realized we're friends on XBL for whatever reason!

Had a very confusing online chat with Amazon about my pre-order. I specifically asked if Game had exclusive rights to sell on launch day but only response I got from them was 'We will do everything within our power to deliver this item to you as soon as we have available stock'.
I was then offered a standard controller instead and it ended with them telling me their fulfillment centre has a release date of 26th August! Asked for email confirming this but got nothing.
Also Tweeted Xbox Support about UK launch info and within the link they provided it gave both Amazon and Game links to follow

August 26th? Maybe that's a mistake, I doubt it'll be released that early. Would be great though.

really looking forward to consumer impressions. I want this. If it's good and I can get like, a Black Friday sale or something, I'm so in there.

October doesn't make sense. Controller seems built and ready to go. How long would it take to build enough to satisfy demand? I can't se it selling a whole lot
