Xbox Fitness - Insanity - Preivew (IGN)

Man, I want this.

Kinect actually looks useful and almost essential here. As an Insanity program junkie I'd love to go through the whole program with this. Stuff like comparing yourself against the general average and my personal records sounds fantastic.

Now, if it wasn't a part of a 500 dollar games console I'd be ordering this right now, lol

After doing 2 months of insanity.. the workouts have become stale and boring. With this xbox app, it gives it a whole new level of excitement by letting you compete against others. Although it may not be entirely accurate, its still that extra level of fun/motivation that will help people continue to work out.

This, definitely. I found it much harder to motivate myself by the last week and beyond, and this app looks like something that would give it new life. Insanity did right by me (lost like 40 or something pounds my first two months), so whatever keeps it fresh, I want.

While technically feasible, it seems like the UI would get awfully cluttered with more than one player...

I reckon it has enough room for 2 or 3 players...a dirty mockup

This looks great. I started again Nike+ Kinect Training on Monday. Almost passed out on the first day ;)

I wasnt planning on jumping in next gen until next year, but this and F1 cars in Forza just might change my mind.

Honestly, imho this is the first great thing that has come around Kinect. I hope Sony follows suit with their camera.

I don't think the PS4 camera can do this kind of stuff. It's using skeleton tracking and IR, neither of which the PS4 cam has. They could do something that analyzed the 2D image, but that's old school tech that won't give the same results.

With IR and skeleton tracking, you get the more accurate feedback and the heart rate monitoring (assuming that's there... didn't see it), and other stuff.

I have no clue on the details, as the playstation camera isnt one of my highest priorities either. But the camera should be able to see depth. That should work well enough for following a workout routine. Heart rate would be another issue.

The leap from depth to full realtime skeleton tracking is pretty huge, though. Skeleton tracking is done mostly in software, to be sure, but it's something MS has locked up with patents and such so it's not something that an be easily duplicated. Depth isn't nearly good enough for this specific application where each joint needs to be tracked individually to determine if you are doing the exercise correctly.

Wait, this is going to feature Insanity/P90X like routines?

This could be a killer app for me. I was almost going to buy a Wii U for Wii Fit U (for family) but this could actually be..useful.

This is actually pretty impressive. Don't see myself using it seeing as I live in an apartment building and don't want to disturb any unfortunate souls living below me (which is of course the only reason why I wouldn't use a fitness program like this), but it seems perfect for people like my mom.

I have to think part of the drive behind this is a sneaky way to push the Xbone over the PS4 in a family setting by coming up with uses for everyone. $400 just to play CoD/Madden/GTA may be a tough sell if only one family member would really be using it; $500 could conceivably be easier to swallow if it also includes features that appeal to the rest of the family.

No clue how successful it will ultimately be, but it's an interesting tactic.

I did Insanity twice through in 4 months and starting T25 today, this is a really great feature for the Xbox. It would help keep the workouts fresh and gives you people to work against - yourself, friends, and the community.

This looks insane, like Guitar Hero for fitness,

No need to go to gym classes anymore with this thing. It doesn't have that gimmicky vibe to it like Wii Fit either, looks like something with some actual benefit and longevity.

Thats actually awesome that p90x and insanity are free with gold even if it is only for a year.

Amazon Prime prices:
P90X DVD Workout - Base Kit $139.80
INSANITY DVD Workout - Base Kit $144.80
Total: $284.60

Good deal for being free throughout 2014.

This is the only thing I'm legit jealous the PS4 does not have. It is really cool and something I'd use a lot.

I agree 110%, especially after seeing it in actual real-world using per the video. I first want to hear how much continued subscriptions to the fitness program will be.

They should tie this in with new release games.

Manage 5000 baseball swings in one week:

Free special edition car unlocked in GTA5.

Good way to get couch warriors getting fit.

This is the way I keep thinking about it and it's gotta be way better than DVD's. They are daft for not advertising this program.

You gotta love these exercise videos. And you just know that not a single person in the videos got to look how they do by doing the actual exercises they are showing off.

With that said, I could see this being a huge selling point if they got a lot of mainstream exposure.

Actually something that follows that line of thought would be good.

MS have got to hammer this home. It is the differentiator between the two systems. They have to focus on their strengths and not downplay their areas of weakness so much. For pure gaming, PS4 is the obvious choice. For something that gives something on top of a gaming system, xbone could have some compelling reasons to pick it up.

After all, who doesn't want to sit at home and eat Doritos, only to feel guilty for it later? The one year free for gold subscribers is pretty cool in my opinion.

Yet another reason I'm glad I'm getting both.

This is amazing will have to see how can I get to have a setup to use this.

For me this is one of the killer apps xbox one has right now.

Cool feature. Does it require a subscription outside of XBL? I would definitely use this, right now I just ride my spin bike, and a small routine. Would be nice to track, as well as have access to good routines.

Until Jan 2015, you only need Gold. After that, looks like it is another subscription (though no pricing announced). Hopefully they keep updating with new content after they start charging for it.

Nice. Hopefully it's not terrible expensive after that. Looks like it has a good library as well.

Scores?! Star ratings!? LEADERBOARDS?! That's awesome!

This is, by far, the one feature of the Xbox One that stands out to me. P90X and Insanity workouts with XBL Gold is really, really compelling.

I just got done with day 2 (of my second time through) Insanity. Will be so much more awesome with Xbox stuff added in. Still awesome now, but I feel like death.

This actually made me break down and preorder. I was going to wait until next autumn, but looking at this I thought I'd rather take advantage of the free stuff during 2014.

Uh, kind of bummed that once the free period expires it requires both XBL Gold AND the fitness pass. Why not one or the other?

I posted in the Beachbody workouts OT but it's not as active as this thread I'll repost my question here.

Has anyone tried Shakeology? What's the verdict? I want to try it. I know they have the 30 day guarantee and it would probably get me saving money since I'd use it as a meal replacement, so there's not anything really to lose if I pay for a month.

Nice one mate, I'm going to start light/medium with the other less intense ones and increase the difficulty weekly up to insanity & P90X. By the end of next year I should have a solid grasp on what I'll want to subscribe to. Owning a company and having a young family I just don't have time for the gym unless it's really late at night. This will be a nice solution and eventually the family might get involved or their own profiles.
