Xbox Fitness - Insanity - Preivew (IGN)

As someone trying to get through "Insanity" again, i find this the coolest feature of Xbone, completly honest here.
Getting a PS4 day one tho, or more like on 29th.

Amazing. He was dripping with sweat after that short workout. I can't wait for this, especially since it's free. The challenges seem really cool too. I'm really competitive and i think they push me to workout harder

Let me just say that this was only the warm up ;)
Welcome to Insanity, power push ups here we gooooooooo

And only the up to the second phase of the warmup, he had a third phase to go before he even went into the stretch.

Having compelted Insanity myself and currently about to finish the Beta phase of T-25, this does look awesome. Love the performance indicators and how it tries to push you compared to your last performance.

So is this aimed only for people who want to loose weight? I am normal weight and I don't want to lose any (maybe gain few kg).

They need to be marketing this on Oprah and Ellen Degenres, the game could become huge if they do.
They really do, but for me the most important thing is for a gaffer to use it for 6 months and make a report on it see if it really works and if it does THEN I'll be 100% on board.

This truly can be a killer app/system seller.

No way, this is also for general fitness and health.
Also for mussel gain and their for weight gain (healthy weight gain)

Will this be available at launch?

I'm sure it will get pushed in the suitable arenas.

The fitness apps for the 360 were great but having a better camera with the X1 has got me excited.

Why are people disregarding the fact that the software is too lenient and forgives poor form, while encouraging frenzied movements just for the sake of accumulating points?

Man, I was really hyped for this before this video. :/

Really looking forward to this :) I actually used Kinect Fitness Evolved quite a bit and loved the fact that you got feedback from the things you did.

Only thing. I'm afraid of is the price it will eventually cost. I hope they do something like XBL Gold + Xbox Fitness for 100$ or so. Much more preferred imo over a 10$ monthly subscription and I think a price like that will draw in much more people.

Can't sell to the masses if it's strict.

Bit hard to judge that based on one video. For all we know it's very strict on certain workouts, but a bit more lax for warmups (which you don't really need accuracy on).

It's more strict than a DVD.

Beachbody has muscle building programs too. You may need more equipment--dumbbells for example. And you'll need to eat a caloric surplus with adequate protein to gain muscle.

Insanity isn't a muscle building program, though, unless you're a total beginner.

As good as this is, you can just get the DVDs. I do think this will sell the system in bucket loads and it has given me that little feeling to buy an Xbox one. On the other hand I cant shake the fact that it is just a gimmick. I know people respond well to competition, but I have done Insanity in my front room and I know when I am performing well and when I am slouching. You don't need a program to tell you if you are doing good or bad, if you have half a brain you will know.

So leaving thoughts. This is cool, I'm 100% sure it will sell a lot of Xbox Ones. In a sense it is unique and a perfect pairing of the 2 different systems. But we are just talking about a little extra added element. It isn't Xbox or Kinect that is good here. The workouts are the good thing. You don't need to spend $500 to get the benefit of a workout, be it Insanity or anything else. KI is still the only game covering this moment and what I know of in the future that has me tempted for an Xbox One. Its sadly not enough and I can guarantee the same results for myself doing Insanity through the DVD player as I can through the Xbox One with Kinect. All it adds is a little competitive element.

I had EA Sports Active 2 for Kinect. I not only had barely enough room to do the exercises, but eventually would eliminate any exercises that required jumping, as the Kinect(TV) would move causing the system to lose you. I bought a brace to keep the Kinect on top of the TV, that locks in, so for it to move, the whole TV had to move.

I did try the Nike+ demo and I did not have enough room to do that.

So I switched to the PS3 version, that has the same heart rate montior and then uses other monitors for your other arm and your thigh. I have done that 9 week program 5 times now.

As much as I have been trying to lose weight and get toned, I cannot get excited for another Kinect fitness "game".

It's not as simple as that. There were some exercises I was doing in one fitness game on the 360 (can't remember which one, I used a lot of them) that I was completely off on the form for... and had been for years.

Short of exercising in front of a mirror or with a personal trainer I imagine there are lots of people making similar mistakes.

Beachbody, which makes P90x/Insanity is way more proven than what you listed. You get results if you follow the programs.

It shows an image on the screen, so you can see if you have bad form just by comparing your movement to those on screen. You can just ignore the star ratings and judge for yourself.

You are missing the point... its the Kinect that is the problem not the software.

If you have a minimum of 10 feet in front of your TV and are on concrete floors, then yes, Kinect is fantastic for fitness. If not.... good luck.

I can understand that. I've only ever done Insanity workouts which spend a lot of time covering posture and form, so that might not have been so much of an issue for me with those specific workouts. But I did notice in the IGN video that the presenters form WAS pretty bad, yet he was racking up those green multiplier stars regardless. I'm not sure I could take the Kinect readouts in this regards as gospel. Little is known from this one video, I will admit that in defense of the Kinect. Regardless I still think its a very interesting idea and anything that gets people interested in exercising is a good thing.

Can't watch the video but I assume this wouldn't work for any movements where you have to be close to the ground such as pushups and crunches right?

Initially dismissing the xbox one, my mom had this to say when she saw the video:

I have to admit that is pretty cool. Now you make me want to get it.

She doesn't play games, ever, and essentially purchased a 360 to do the Nike Fitness game. I convinced my dad to buy a PS3 some years ago at the 200$ November sales because of the Blu-Ray player and its ability to update. Kind of sad that there are two consoles at my parents house that are used for movies, Netflix, and Nike Fitness.

P90x is not a weight loss program, I think some of the others are

P90X is more or less a weight loss and general fitness program; the weighted movements it uses aren't all that great aside from the chinups, which is a limitation of the equipment they have available. It also has a ton of cardio, which makes it difficult to build a lot of muscle.

Uh, kind of bummed that once the free period expires it requires both XBL Gold AND the fitness pass. Why not one or the other?

Well they said it "Free with Gold" through 2014. So it could be you just need gold to get the free offer and in 2015 you won't need both. But considering the current track record of requiring gold for everything, I doubt this is the case.

also the camera on XB1 is much better and reduces the amount of space you need by 1/3

Worked fine on some of the kinect titles. Just had to make sure you were side on to the sensor.

- Showed video to my wife and she loved it
- Cancelled my PS4 on amazon
- looked on RedflagDeals to find where I can still get an XB1 and got linked to a thread that pretty much made me save over $140 for a PS4 + Killzone + 1 year PS+
- Reordered a PS4

I'll be enjoying this in march when I pickup the XB1 lol I look forward to seeing people's impressions

I am putting my PS4 on eBay and only going with the Bone to start because of this. My wife will love it, I will try it.

I'm not sure, but they'd be smart to get this out there as soon as possible.

MS confirmed that the new kinect will work in smaller rooms.

And how would this be different than using the video programs? You would have the same problems you talk about as many Beachbody programs have jumping elements. Not getting your points, dude.

He's saying that jumping on his floor caused vibrations making the camera bounce on his TV or entertainment center. The new version would have to compensate for that.

As long as they have options for people who aren't already really fit, then I'm in (P90X and Insanity are meant for extremely fit people already, aren't they?)

P90X is for anyone, you can really take it at your speed. Insanity could be done the same way, but it is a bit higher level workout.

Though I'm not getting an XBone, this would be something I would get if I did. I like P90X and I tried Chalean's a extreme too. The Beachbody workouts are really great.
