I'm really starting to get active in purchasing live arcade games, is there any movement towards making more expensive live arcade games worth more gamer points? Like 1200 point titles would be 400 achievement points max, 800 point titles would be 300 achievement points, and the 400 point titles would be the standard 200 achievement points. It just seems like they've expanded on the size limit and made prices higher, why not offer more gamer points for games that are clearly larger, and more expansive?

We all know that is not going to happen because they want everything to be standardized.

Meat Boy PAX gameplay

First gameplay I've seen of Gish, not much surprise about how he plays, though. Sticks to walls, sort of his whole thing.

Also I guess *spoilers* since it shows a cutscene after they beat one of the bosses.

Most interesting part is the character select screen. Looks like possibly a knight from Castle Crashers (pretty clear from the silhouette) and Spelunky (or someone else who wears an explorer hat) as hidden characters.

Mentions that "the internets" (XBLA exclusive world) will be updated for free, and that the Steam version will have a level editor, and the WiiWare version has... something.

A new ESRB rating for Brightside Games' time-traveling shoot'em up Zeit² reveals that major publisher Ubisoft has picked up the game and will release it to PC and Xbox 360 (likely Xbox Live Arcade).

Shortlisted for the 2009 Independent Games Festival Student Showcase, Zeit² is an arcade shoot'em up in which players can fast-forward their progression through stages or jump back in time to shoot alongside themselves.

The Haunted: Hell's Reach was the winner of Epic's Make Something Unreal contest back in February, nabbing themselves $50,000 in the process. Now developer Hell's Reach have plans to bring it over to the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, and to promote it they've released this trailer.

SWEET. While it sounds like it won't have quite the same tight gameplay owing to the fact that they are tossing in a few more options/gimmicks, what they have added sounds cool to me. Eating dozens and dozens of ghosts in a chain? Sounds great. Choosing other classic looks is cool, too. And there's always the original game if you want that.

Another plus is that PSN people will finally have a chance to play this gem. I love this game. :D

Edit: I just hope its 800 points, I fully expect it to be. 1200 is too much to ask for what's essentially an expansion, and I don't really expect them to go as low as 400.

How Limbo Came To Life
Behind the scenes with the breakout Xbox Live Arcade game that took six years to make.

http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/112/1120477p1.html

t always starts with dissatisfaction. After having graduated university with a design degree and winning a concept artist job at IO Interactive Arnt Jensen began to feel somehow undernourished by his work. "I got a good salary," Jensen told me. "I was really loved at the beginning, everyone loved what I was doing. Then, I don't know, it just became more and more corporate. It became harder to get ideas through."

From this point, Jensen embarked on a six-year journey that would result in the formation of his own company and the release of Limbo, one of the most esteemed games of 2010. "Limbo started with a mood setting," Jensen said. "I started drawing concept art without the boy, it was just this secret place. I really tried my whole life to get ideas, but when I drew this first drawing--it was just like this is the place."

Gordon Freeman keeps a watchful eye over Arnt Jensen, Limbo's Game Director.
Jensen continued to work on his own for several years, sketching art and making basic tries at programming a prototype. "I thought I could do it myself," he said. "I started some Visual Basic programming. I got a sprite up and running and I could do some small visual stuff. It was okay, but it was just a long way away."

By 2006 Jensen realized he would need help and decided to put aside the prototype and work on a cinematic trailer to entice a programmer to join him. The trailer was meant as a hiring notice more than an official announcement but the video quickly went viral, sparking curiosity and excitement.

"I had a friend see the video and say to me, 'Hey I know you just quit this other game job, this guy is seeking a programmer, maybe you should talk to him,'" Dino Patti, CEO and Co-founder of Playdead, told me. "I think his vision was bigger than he really thought it was, he needed somebody to take action and try to bring in some money and people to help him."

Patti had reached his own point of disillusion by 2006. He began his career as a programmer for an advertising company and then moved to the videogame world. While the change had been an exciting one, the realities of the games industry had slowly leeched Patti's enthusiasm. "I was sick and tired of working hard, crunching a lot," Patti said "I really didn't want to be in that business because I didn't think you would be able to do what you really wanted because of the constraints of the economy, finding talent, bad management..."

Seeing the Limbo concept video invigorated Patti and he got in touch with Jensen to join the cause. Jensen's plan was to make the game as a free PC title made by a designer and programmer. He and Patti worked together for several months before realizing that their ambitions were just too big for two people. "I coded a little bit in the beginning," Patti said. "But really quickly I found out it would be better to hire better coders than me, hire better middle management, hire better everything and just be at the center of it."

Damn, are today's releases even up? Can't find them anywhere on the dashboard (US console in Germany). I see folks on my friends list playing Sky Stage already.

Pinball is a game about high score – that’s why Zen Studios developed some really cool scoring systems in Pinball FX 2. The new Superscore and Wizard Score systems allow you to measure your pinball wizardry in really competitive ways, offering you new ways to rule the Xbox LIVE Arcade pinball community.

Superscore and Wizard Score

Superscore = User’s performance across all tables. Superscore allows you to track your all time play records and have a comparable score against the rest of the Pinball FX 2 community.
Wizard Score = This is your Superscore plus all of your friends Superscores. To achieve a truly epic Wizard Score, you are going to need to unite with your friends in an effort to rule the Pinball FX 2 community.

With that we leave you with this tantalizing pinball question: How will you rule the Pinball FX 2 community – trying to beat your friends or getting them to join you? Sounds like a no-brainer right? The obvious choice is to do both, however, in our next blog we will uncover some Pinball FX 2 Achievements, which will make this choice harder to make.

Armed with the most advanced weaponry and trained in the most powerful war tactics known to ancient world, who can stand the brute force of the Roman Empire? Pinball FX 2 will be available on Xbox LIVE Arcade, October 13th as part of Game Feast presented by Microsoft.

Japanese games impresario Goichi Suda, creator of No More Heroes and Shadows of the Damned, and his studio Grasshopper Manufacture will bring an all-new title exclusively to the Xbox 360, titled "Codename D." (Skittles? Is that you?)

Suda, taking the stage at Microsoft's TGS 2010 news conference, said that he'd wanted to work with the company for a long time, calling it a "long dating period." "Codename D," will be Kinect-enabled, but won't feature conventional weapons such as swords or guns. A live-action trailer shown after Suda's appearance depicted the game's protagonist lighting a baseball on fire to take out some foes.

Microsoft describes Codename D this way: "You must fight for your life to survive an evil amusement park filled with twisted and eerie creatures. With "codename D" for Kinect for Xbox 360, you are the controller as you unleash devastating effects to destroy enemies and objects."

Codename D will be released via Xbox Live Arcade for Kinect.
