My peers doubted me when I predicted £399, then MS went and not only exceeded that, but the PS3's launch price (£425).

At least the £ isn't worth something ridiculous like $2.10 like in late 2006/early 2007

People were mocking the ps3 for 4 years because of the atrocious launch. They spent 4 years playing catch-up.

I don't know, I just think the "mass market" that MS so desperately wants, is more likely to go with a Wii U at XMAS for 300, with a new mario kart, mario U, wii fit u, etc. I think Nintendo is in a better place than everyone thinks. I think for the anti-Nintendo gamers out there, ps4 will steal a lot of sales from the xbone. good job MS.

So yeah you're overpaying but not that much.

US advertized prices don't have any taxes included in them, taxes get added on when you pay for it.
