Xbox One Coming in November; $499/£429/499

Insane price, especially with Gold still existing. "Free to Play" games for Gold members only is also the very height of stupid.

Your move Sony.

(sweep the leg)

At this point I'm sticking with my new theory of refusing to buy stuff at launch. Started this with the 3DS and it worked out well for me personally with the Zelda bundle. I'm gonna stay on target with this. Get back to me when there is a price drop/redesign/super bundle that I'm interested in for the Xbone. That goes the same for the PS4 as well (ditto for the Wii U as I don't own one yet).

The DRM issue is just icing on the cake of me not even remotely looking to buy an Xbone anytime soon.

I think I'm going to start doing this...the benefits of buying at launch don't really appeal to me anymore.

But if the PS4 is 399, I'll probably cave.

What the hell is wrong with Microsoft? I'm starting to feel guilty for watching this now, it's like seeing a blind man trip. There must have been something I could've done. Some way to help.

Also CERNY on gt.

This is honestly more expensive than I thought it would be. X360 was pretty much cutting edge machine at the time for $400, even $300 if you wanted cut down version. I blame Kinect camera.

People buy cars every 7 or 8 years, too. Not sure why people aren't excited the console is under $26,000.

An Xbox can't take you to the doctor when you're sick, take you to the store to buy food, travel for vacation, get to work so you can get paid, etc etc.

Haven't seen it mentioned but what if Sony hits $500 but bundles a game or a years worth of PS Plus with it which is essentially more games that is if PS Plus still gives games away like it does now?

If sony price £350 or less, then I can really see them taking the UK market.

XBOne will still sell quite a bit, there are some 360 fans who will stick no matter what, but with a lower price and concerns over Kinect, then people are really going to have their heads turned.

Seriously, if the media jump on the privacy/DRM stuff, then who is going to buy the XBOne? Hardcore gamers? Not many. Parents? Not many.

I dont understand the complaining, the same people who complain buy a new iphone, ipad every new version
I don't understand how you know whether every single person that complained about Xbone's price has bought each and every new iteration of Apple's products.

Surely you're not making stuff up, right?

It doesn't really matter IMO if the PS4 is $400 or $500 in terms of this seeming like a terrible decision. The PS4 might get away with it because its positioning itself as a game system (I believe) and I assume Sony has at least somewhat proportional expectations for that. But I think $500 is ridiculous to the people who they're going try and sell this as a living room content box to.

I was expecting some discrepancy between the US and UK price, but £429 is insanity. That's $670.

Wasn't buying one anyway, but still..

I'm not surprised about the price at all. I was surprised about them announcing the price at this conference, though. Perhaps Microsoft is confident that Sony will not undercut them.

I thought MS would go for the killing with a very low entry price, taking advantage of their wealth. I was expecting $300.

Instead XBox One will be $600 when you factor XBox Live + a 2nd controller or a headset.
Even if I had no issue with this console, I would never buy one at that price.

Good luck with that Microsoft.

as a european, fucking lol
and people on gaf were swearing it'd be $299 because of the yukon docs, I told them, they didnt listen.

Yeah I called that wrong at first but corrected myself after I was reminded that it was probably the subsidized prize.
Sorry for that :-(

$500 for a DRM ridden, forced Kinect using, used games restricted, rental eliminating box. And you STILL have to pay for XBL on top of that.

LOL

MS is brimming with arrogance. They have surpassed 2005/2006 Sony.

lol you people talking about inflation realize most of the first world lost significant amounts of buying power since 2005/6 right? Salaries have languished as well as unemployment. Unless you're 14 years old you'd know there were tough times starting with the recession.

Hey, if you've got no money and will be spending most of your days and nights at unemployed at home, let me tell you...

You'll never need to leave the house again with Xbox One! It delivers all the hottest movies and entertainment directly to your TV, powered by the Cloud and Kinect! And if you're one of those "hardcore" gamer guys, then you'll love that all your favorite franchises are on Xbox One, including CALL of DUTY and HALO.

Surf the web while you listen to the Xbox Music marketplace and get live updates on how your friends are doing in the latest rounds of Call of Duty: Ghosts while playing Halo: Spartan Assault on your Windows 8 tablet.

Xbox One, it's worth spending your unemployement dollars on. As an added bonus, if you use your unemployment check to place a pre-order, you'll get an exclusive Day One achievement and DLC!

<-- Shillin' for Microsoft

Holy shit, are they joking? If Sony matches this price point, the Wii U is going to walk away with the holiday season simply be being the cheaper option. Not only that, once you touch $500 you start competing with far more popular things like tablets and so on.

The other shoe that hasn't dropped is the price of next gen games. $69.99 = NOPE

Nintendo may have to work for it but, drop the price of the Wii U by $50.00 and bundle with Mario Kart or Smash Brothers.

They didn't just surpass it they drove past it with the top down and stereo blasting while giving every person it drove past the middle finger.

$499 seems insanely high honestly.

I expect Sony to come in with 2 SKUS. 1 at $399 and one at $499.

The $499 one is gonna be the one with the PS4 eye and the bigger HDD.

The $399 w/o the PS4 eye and a smaller (maybe between 250 and 500GB) HDD

I guess going DDR3 didn't really save them on cost or Kinect 2 is friggin expensive (likely this). They should've had 2 SKUs.

Yeah I don't think the Xbone had people watering at the mouths to ignore that $500/430 pounds price tag, not sure if Sony will.
also where the Arnie gif

Yeah that price is a bit much when you consider there's still live you have to pay for, so its already 560-570+ dollars. Add in a game and an extra controller and your already reaching to 600-650+ dollars or more easily. I can't afford that im a poor, broke college student and you can bet there are others in a similar boat.

That is a hefty price, but I have very big inkling that the PS4 will be priced the same. No way would Microsoft come out and price it that high without knowing what Sony were up to. I think the tech in the PS4 will price it at the same, maybe slightly higher.
