Xbox One now $349 from 16th January

Yeah you kind of are. Sony has The Order in Feb. & Bloodborne in March.

Two games that will sell to people like me who already own a console.

I do disagree that the Xbox One will catch the PS4 by April. I don't see them winning another month even at 350 unless the pack it with more games and more promotions.

Ironically XBL achievements were cocked up all last night and 360 purchases are broken right now. XBL has declined this generation in terms of stability.

I find Microsoft's want to make tech headlines for a new 'promotion' after raising it for only 13 days to be an interesting (however transparent to us) marketing scheme. What? Is this 'promotion' going to randomly end for another 2 week just so they can pull this same stunt again when PS4 exclusives drop?

Also, I find all chest thumping 'I didn't eat crow' posts interesting. The holiday promotion did end and the price did rise...albeit for 13 days, but what were people to think when MS plainly announced the price would be back to $399? I don't think many of you gloating predicted the price to rise again this quickly.

Smart move. This seems like the sweet spot for XBOX One and I am interested to see what Sony will do.... They don't need to make a move but if they do, it would put a strain on Microsoft again.

They let it slip to $400 for two weeks? What a joke. And what's this about "inspired a new promotion"? Just say the price is $350 already.

So still not permanent?

Why with all the pussyfooting, just keep it $349 already. Continuing to raise the price back up like this on a national scale will be extremely toxic to public perception in the future.

These. All they're doing is devaluing their product further & further while annoying customers with these constant price drops & promotions.

I'm calling it, next week's title of Podcast Unlocked will be something like "Xbox One back down to $349, rejoice!" Right after they had an episode titled something like "Xbox One back up to $399, now what?" Those guys must be on the worst kind of emotional roller coaster.

Also, at this point some of you are thinking that this is a "temporary promotion". Please get that out of your head now, there will be Xbox One SKUs available for $350 until there are Xbox One SKUs available for even less.

Sony doesn't need to do anything yet. They're in a comfortable and strong position right now.

It would be wise to wait and see if them bringing the price back down again will actually shift sales substantially in the US.

Sony can afford to do that, specially with how early their stream of solid games start releasing this year.

Find me one person besides you who is genuinely annoyed with Xbox One lowering to $349.

Seriously, why bring in a sour attitude to the party?

Also They just added a free game bundled inside

In the U.S. Xbox is a lot stronger brand with young people, and a lot of them were waiting for the holidays to get their new consoles.

PS4 will go back to selling better by a small margin during the year if price is close enough.

You have a source for that which isn't your butt? Such a weird thing to say, how would you even know?

Even if MS catches up in the US I doubt Sony will give a shit. It's not going to change anything. Either way they're still selling a lot of consoles and moving a ton of games. They're trying to maximize profit at this point.

I agree. I just feel that at E3 they'll be at a point where they'll feel comfortable to lower the price and allow for competitive sales/bundles when the holidays come around.

Speaking of profits, I wonder if the XBO is still selling for profit alone or if it's now just about getting consoles into homes and relying on future software to bring in profits.

To my understanding they were barley making a profit at 399$. So going to 350$ and giving away New software with it can't be good.

Those are not system sellers. Even the most faithful Sony fans are assuming that The Order is going to get trashed by reviewers, and Bloodborne has a heavy appeal by a niche, but it is not the average gamers's game.

The Order is a game known to enthusiasts. Bloodborne is an offshoot of an already niche series. These are games that sell well to people who would have already bought consoles. They're indeed system sellers in that they get the hardcore like myself to buy consoles. And I'm assuming, possibly incorrectly, that enthusiasts wouldn't pass up all those attractive holiday PS4 sales just to wait to buy a PS4 2 months later when there won't be any sales to buy games they already know they want.

isn't Dark Souls 1 and 2 both multi-million selling games?

I'll give you the bad press The order has been getting. But Bloodbourne looking at Press and positive feedback is extremely high. And lot's of people have been preordering that game on Amazon, more so since PSX.

Wow, I can't say anything without getting ransacked.

Not annoyed, I'm just saying. If you're going to lower the price, then why not just freaking stick to it from the get-go? Instead of raising the price back to $400, then two weeks later, lower it again? It just doesn't make any sense.

But you did declare them the winner of one or more (Jan/Feb/Mar). Just have to choose one or two I guess.

It'll be close in January, but the lead in february/march/april will be similar to what the PS4 had over XB1 in most months last year. That along with the gap from december will put the XB1 over the top.

I'm just guessing here. I also predicted, before the price dropped yet again, that the PS4 would wipe away the XB1 gains made in November/December. That's not the case any longer obviously.

Im sure there are many people annoyed with price drops and promotions...

Sales fall off a cliff in January and its only been 2 weeks

I think they are doing it as a 'promotion' because they are not ready to drop the price globally yet.

That's exactly what I get out the specific wording in their PR, too. Perhaps the exchange rate is unfavorable abroad, I dunno, or they are still working out the numbers for an official price drop for territories outside of the US.

It may have been argued that it was false advertising if they didn't raise the price. The price drop was advertised as "limited time only" everywhere... So they stood by their word, raised the price up, waited a couple weeks, then started it again.....
