Xbox One "Original Xbox" backwards compatibility live now

With my luck, JSRF will be released and the version I have (Sega GT/JSRF) will be incompatible.

Oh, yeah, I never thought of the two-pack. I wonder how they'll handle it. It'd be awesome if they released that version digitally and supported the disc, as well.

Hope Otogi and Jade Empire gets supported.

I still have Jade Empire sealed so I agree and I'm down! I had so many games at the time (and still do) I was unable to start it. I think it uses the same engine; albeit modified of KOTOR so hopefully its not a pipe dream. I would also love if The Warriors was BC as well. I love that game.

Is every game running at 6x resolution or just the selected few? Because a low poly count game like black looks way too rough to be 6x res

I would think both Jade Empire and The Warriors will come. EA even gave Jade Empire for free on Origin not too long ago. The Warriors is currently on sale compatible with PS4 as a PS2 classic. Seems like rights situations for both games are in great shape.

Some comparisons:

NGB Xbox One S vs Ninja Gaiden Sigma PS3:

PS3 version is an actual remaster with extra foliage, lighting etc... Xbox version is rather plain in comparison as it is just the original looking very nice uprezed. Gameplay differences between them are well documented. Still, very nice to have the Xbox version playable hi-rez.

POP: SOT Xbox One S vs POP Trilogy SOT PS3:

PS3 version is cropped for 16:9 screens compared to original 4:3 on Xbox. Cutsceens are fullscreen 16:9 on PS3, but widescreen postage-stamped on Xbox. Xbox has a foggier and bloomier appearance vs PS3 version.

Really just re-emulating these games at a higher resolution does put them in contention with their re-masters. That alone is amazing.

*Edit*

KOTOR is like 50-60fps and nicely detailed.

The lack of online play for games like Crimson Skies really kills this for me. The reason I loved Crimson Skies so much was because I played online forever. The single player I blew threw in a few days and never looked back.

I was super hyped when they announced Crimson Skies at E3. Not having online play completely kills that buzz. It's fine for KOTOR, NG Black and the like, but no online multi for Crimson kind of defeats the purpose.

Sold some of the compatible games years ago(mostly the ones that are on PC) before knowing this level of BC was going to be a thing. 4-16x resolution and improved framerates is incredible.

Just watched part of the VG Tech video on KOTOR and the Xbox One version is regularly running between 2-3x the framerate of the Xbox original. That's incredible emulation.

There's no 30fps cap in KOTOR so performance is still variable (bit more like 40-60fps than 15-40fps in the original) but it should mean any game with a 30fps cap will be fully locked at that framerate.

I just saw this posted on reddit. It seems users have found a way to play the game online.

Crimson Skies Multiplayer works online through Xlink Kai!

I really hope the BC team delivers XBL for OXbox games at some point.

My God I lost an entire night to Pirates! I forgot how simple yet fun that game is.

I loved it on PC but it's super easy to pick up and play on a controller.

Be awesome if Microsoft could build an Xlink style solution right into the emulator. Imagine if everyone in your Xbox One party was automatically bridged for OG Xbox system link so you could seamlessly play with those people online. No matchmaking obviously but we do have Looking for Group now.

I turned my Xbone on last night, and it must have updated to the new OS... everything is in different spots. I shut it off and played some SNES Classic instead. Hah hah hah. Just wasn't in the frame of mind to have my cheese moved last night.

While I think it was already supported, I want to play some EDF 2017. I have no idea why I have such a soft spot for that game.

Because it's awesome, though it isn't BC yet. Only Insect Armageddon so far.

Not to put a downer on things because it's amazing it's actually happening, but looks like we have to wait till Spring till the next batch :(

Below is the first curated batch of Original Xbox games we're releasing into the Xbox One Backward Compatibility program. We expect to release another curated list of Original Xbox classics in Spring 2018, so stayed tuned for more.

turn on my console yesterday just for this and coundt find any of those games in the store

ninja gaiden is not in the game pass either

Yeah, I noticed that earlier too. I guess they really meant it when they said it'll be a lot less games than 360 BC.

Hoping they stick with titles that can’t be played anywhere else primarily. That should be the priority IMO if the batches will be smaller. So stuff like JSRF and Panzer Dragoon Orta for example. We should Be saving the games that have basically been lost to any but actual OG Xbox collectors

Ninja gaiden is ok. Feels old as it is , a bit of shimmering and aliasing. Hopefully will be better on oneX.
Crimson skies. Eeekk. Don’t remember it looking so bad. Really bad. Just played 4min but that wasn’t good

So we know the tech behind how they are doing this yet? Are they doing some emulator-ception or brute forcing or what?

Probably due to DX12 that opens up a lot of door. Also recompiling the codes for xb1 cpu like 360 games on BC. Thats why games still require full download when you pop in the disc.

I've got four games installed. Works really well. They're also rendering in enhanced res, not upscaled.

Always a belter to see another scouser on GAF

Sigma is imbalanced, casual crap. Nothing compared to the version by Itagaki. The same goes to Sigma 2.
