Xbox One - Walk into a store and pick it up?

Target may show stock because they are supposed to have some for Black Friday. They could be in a box that says DONT OPEN UNTIL NOVEMBER 29th or something.

That is why they are showing stock. They may have them, just not for sale until this Friday.

Actually it's Sunday. Every Target has 3-8 Xbox One's in stock to coincide with their Sunday advertisement.

They'll probably get more for Black Friday but if you're still in need of a One (like myself), getting to Target at opening will score you one if you're one of the first 3-8 people.

Yup. When i was there I asked when forgotten/unclaimed preorders would be available.... "Black Friday"

Ive just heard about the shitstorm on facebook and reddit about the Irish media store, xtravison, who wouldn't sell people their xbox one preorders without buying an extra game at the same time. Never heard of anything like this before.

Forced bundles have been a thing in the US for a long time, but at least what you're describing is better since they're allowing people to pick the game that ends up in the bundle.

Congratulations. You would be one of the first to see them on store shelves after launch.

The futureshop I went too yesterday had both Xbox one and PS4. The Microplay where I live had 1 PS4 and 1 Xbox one too. I don't think they are that hard to get, in Canada at least.

Sony's been making PS4s since late August apparently and according to Pachter they're making 1 million of them a month. So that's 3 million at least produced already and they sold a million in the US and Canada already. Somewhere out there are 2 million units being readied to restock the US and fulfill European pre-orders and eventual restocks. The only reason I can see for them not having stock in US stores right now is that they're willfully holding them back to build demand/anticipation, and will then release them on Black Friday.

I think that number is a little too high. They forecasted selling 5 million by the End of March. If they truly could make 1 million per month they would have been able to ship 7-8 million. It could be that just now they are able to make 1 million per month but that it took some time to fully ramp to that capability.

I am not sure if you are saying that Sony will hold them back or the retailers will. It would only make sense if the retailers did and only on BF just to draw people to the store in hopes that they buy other shit as well. The thing of note is that BF is only 8 business days after the launch and it could just work out that this is how long it takes to get a second shipment.

Talked to a manager at Target while buying a Wii U the other day and he claimed Sony is holding PS4s back from them until Black Friday. How much can a manager really know though? But if he's right, it's not really a bad plan on Sony's part. Sell a million of them. Garner huge praise. Build anticipation and desire. Open the floodgates again on Black Friday when everyone is in stores. Make people feel like they hit the lottery by finding one in store at MSRP.

I went to Tesco this morning and they had so much Xbox One stock left that they had demolished the exterior of the store and rebuilt it from excess Xbox One power bricks. Ok not really, I went there to buy some things for weekend eats and to check for cheap 3DS games and the woman at the electronics counter said they had five left and they would get more in next week. The nice lady then asked if I wanted to buy one and whether they were 'any good' so I said nothing, ran away and hid behind the vacuum cleaners. That was six hours ago so I think it's safe to come out now.

Did anyone try this on PS4 release day?

I did. I live in Montreal so the Walmarts aren't open 24 hours, they open at 8 am. I got up at around 9:30 last Friday and decided: "what the hell, it's worth a shot".

Got there for about 10 and simply picked up a PS4. Guess I got lucky.

I don't think you'll see much day 1 edition consoles since they were "limited" and as for PS4's, i heard they are saving them til black friday since they are mentioned in a lot of ads for different stores, kinda messed up

Actually no, what hes describing is very illegal in the states.

Just saw this pop up on Twitter (Italy):

Forced bundles however are not illegal.

Forced bundles are illegal if the item is advertised by itself. If you preordered just the system and are forced to purchase anything more than that its illegal. The only way they can force you to buy anything extra is if thats the only way it is advertised. And if thats the case those people wouldnt be up in arms because they knew from the start they would have to purchase another game or accessory.

FYE did this to me when the Wii launched. I was too excited to care in my teens at the time, but I'd have ripped the manager to shreds over this if it happened now in some fashion. I also had a PS3 pre-ordered there with $50 down, and they didn't get my pre-order in until 4 months after release, and wouldn't give me my $50 back because I lost my receipt.

Thankfully I've never had to set foot into an FYE since.

Yeah, people in the US are reporting similar stories.

Makes you wonder if the sales really were "sold-through". I know Albert already address this but he is PR and PR's job is to make your console look good even if it means telling a little white lie.

I though the Sold-through referred to fullfilled Pre-orders.

Wouldn't be surprised if they are using shipped number. MS hasn't been telling one truth regarding the Xbone. Penello...well Penello's going to Penello.

Walked past an EB games store in melbourne (southland) yesterday and they had a sign saying they had xbox ones in stock.

Similarly, all JB Hi-Fi's and EB Games in the Melbourne CBD had Xbox Ones in stock. Only Standards, no Day 1 editions.

Mind you, while waiting in line to buy Zelda ALBW at Swanston St EB, 4 people in the line in front of me walked up and bought an Xbone each. None were pre-ordered.

So either low pre-orders allowed plenty of excess stock, or there was just plenty of stock allocated in general.

The PS4 in comparison is sold out all the way through to at least Christmas and possibly early next year pretty much everywhere here.

i see those boxes but their usually empty and have nothing in them I could be wrong though

Went to 1 Gamestop & 1 Walmart this morning.
Gamestop was sold out but the Walmart still had 2 green box systems.
Gamestop guy said they should have some next Wednesday.
Went to multiple targets, walmarts,GS's,best buys,etc.. during the week and didn't see a single PS4.

If I could find one yesterday, I would have bought one. I didn't do a thorough looking in my entire area, but I did go to three stores. The story they told me was that they got low shipments, the Walmart only got 8 for their shelves.

My area probably has a high volume of gamers, relatively high density population in this area, mixed with relatively low shipments made for zero availability in the general area.

Stopped by the John Hancock Building Best Buy in Chicago yesterday to pick up my copy of Super Mario 3D World and trade in my 360; probably the highest traffic Best Buy in Chicago. No surprise, they were sold out. Talked to a rep for a little bit, and he said they sold out by 11am or so. (Which he said was quicker than PS4, although they had more PS4s, though he didn't give me an exact number on either allotment, so take that for what you will.)

Funniest thing was though, he said they actually had a lot more people coming in to buy Zelda for the 3DS and the 3DS bundles with Zelda. Said it was definitely the most popular item going. Oh the games industry...

Sounds like a shipped number with the fairly reseasonable expectation of that initial shipment selling out in a week or two. Unless the number of shipped units way, way outstripped the actual pre-orders, so they have a sufficient walk-in stock.

If anyone is in the Albany, NY area there is one more system available. Just canceled my preorder and the woman there said someone else had canceled their preorder shortly before I came. So there might be two consoles available.

This was at Gamestop

Hah go figure I open this thread and see Albany. Hopefully someone here grabs it, I passed on getting a system yesterday.

Dunno how reliable the stock indicator on ebgames.ca is but the Xbone seems to be "In stock" at every single location in my city (Edmonton)... that can't be right.

Went to Best Buy today to pick up Mario World. Both PS4 and XBOs are sold out, not shockingly.

The guy laughed when I asked about PS4, had no clue when they're getting more in. Note, Gamestop employee laughed when I asked about PS4 last week also. So, seems like there's a big enough demand for PS4 that store employees find my asking hilarious.

Best Buy guy said they will have some XOne's for Black Friday. I assume that means they already do, they're just holding them until then. Didn't call around asking, 'cause I don't give a fuck. I just happened to be at BB and asked.

They also had a MS person there demonstrating it. Never seen that kind of shit before. She was drawing a pretty good crowd, too.

I just came back from the Best Buy on 86th and Lex here in NYC, and I noticed they were putting some day one editions behind the counter, up top on the shelves.

If anyone is looking, give them a call.

Cambridge in the UK seems to have plenty of stock. My brother in law asked me to pick one up for him (he lives in Sweden). I was even able to shop around as everywhere had plenty of stock.

It's very possible. Most stores in my area, boutique and big box, seem to have them in stock.
