Xbox Series S - Revealed Trailer

The price is right. If they can really push that Fifa, Fortnite, or really any of the popular casual-focused games run well on the system, they'll sell a ton of these.

I know a lot of people this will appeal to, I have two brothers that would look at this box. Neither has a gaming PC, both have 1080p/60Hz TVs and they are much more interested in gameplay than graphics. They would both consider this over the XSX and PS5 for indie games and maybe the odd exclusive.

Honestly I am more impressed by this then the Series X. 299 is more of a sweet spot and I don't have a 4K TV. If you are like an old head like me and stuck at 1080P this is more appealing then X and depending on what Sony announces the PS5. Will have to see what caveats there are on this but if you can run RT and other next gen features but at 1080P its impressive. How will this compare to the One X?

I almost feel like MS should of just ditched the Series X and focused on the series S. There is no way Sony is matching 299 and if the only difference is 4K it might of been worth it. Or at least have the X in the background and the S front and center. But it makes sense if they came out with weak power they would be destroyed look at Halo reveal. But going forward once Sony drops price MS would be wise to really push the S.

I wonder what Halo Infinite looks like on it?

Are you wanting it printed in your 4head or something?

1440p & Up to 120fps... I'm sold. Got an external I can use to hold other games if I need to transfer but I play one at time so I won't even need it.

This thing will sell and is impressive. Anyone mocking it or laughing at it are in for a rude awakening when this small box smashes expectations.

Funny though, where are all the mouth foaming idiots that claimed that they shouldn't go for 4K but focus on 1080? Well, here you go, a 120fps 1440p box.

my interest in Xbox was dying, until this.

I got a bridge to sell you if you think this 4TF box is running next gen games at 1440p 120fps

I won't hold my breath on this thing being much good at ray tracing, 4k, or 120fps (although of course it can do those things).

£250 is nice for a Gamepass machine.

well played by Xbox, first ppl saying they were going to get a PS5 plus a gaming PC, now they switched to a PS5 plus and an Xbox SS, win win

if we go with tales from our asses imo they are more console gamer on pc screen than ones on 4k tv

The majority of HDTVs sold these days are 4K HDTVs. I checked the Mediamarkt.nl website, they offer more than 300 different 4K HDTV models compared to 39 Full HD (1080p) HDTVs and 32 HD Ready TVs. (And 32 8K HDTV models).

When I check their PC monitor section, I see a completely different situation: 1080p (74 models), 4K (16), 2560x1440p (14), 3440x1440p (7), 2560x1080p (2).

You don't need to sell me shit my guy. Believe it or not, not all people are that dumb to believe that ALL and EVERY game will run at that, just that it's capable. I'm sure the devs who actually put effort in and quality work will achieve that as expected.

STOP misconstruing what i'm saying. I know fine well that some shitty dev will absolutely butcher their game and have it run sub-1080p or something, but thats on them, not the box itself. Be prepared to buy something from me if you're wrong though.

mod edit: I have been removed from the thread because the fear sweat is indicative of a large fever gripping me right now.

1440p :messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy:

That`s the resolution the Series X would have to drop down to if heavier RT gets involved....
This pos will either hold everything back or will need specifically downgraded software versions for all bigger-scope games.

Facts sir.

Sucks for the devs, now they have to dumb down their next gen only games to 4TF. No way MS will certify the game if they try to skip the S. I hope this doesn't hurt the PS5 and X owners.

ps5 and ps5 digital consoles will have the same specs..
the series s and x will not have the same specs.

every multiplatform next gen title is gonna look like ass on the S compared to the ps5 versions. and the series X version will look slightly better , is my guess..

much like the current status of xbox one X - ps4pro - ps4 - xbox outcomes on Digital Foundries comparisons.

so , nothing changes. :D and one console still will have exclusives...

Something also tell me the series X will be priced pretty high, higher than ps5 (just a thought , no evidence)

Which baffles me while some people are saying this is a genius move for next gen, they will sell tens of millions series S

the one with the weakest specs...

I don't see why people are doubting The S could hit 1440p/60/120. It's still a good piece of hardware. You can't judge it like you would a pc. Consoles gain like 15% performance because of their closed systems but with that said microsoft seriously fucked themselves . Having a next gen half-assed consoles isn't the smart move. If the digital ps5 is $400 why would ANYONE buy the series S for $300. For $400 you get the Sony brand and "2.5 times" the performance (that's how it will be marketed)

  • All-Digital
  • 4TF RDNA 2 GPU
  • Same CPU as Xbox Series X
  • Nearly 60% smaller than Xbox Series X
  • Custom 512GB NVME SSD powered by Xbox Velocity Architecture (like the Series X)
  • 1440p at up to 120FPS
  • DirectX Raytracing
  • 4K upscaling and media playback
  • Variable rate shading
  • Variable refresh rate
  • Ultra-low latency

Priced: £249 / $299 / €299

So Microsoft has the most powerful and the weakest console on nextgen platform? This makes an excellent gamepass machine

They killed it with this. Series S is banger AF. If it isn't your bag, there's the Series X.

So is there any reason to buy this if you have a One X? Seems like the improvements would be super incremental aside from exclusives so you might as well get the series X. This is a great value for people who didn't upgrade mid Gen though and are price conscious.

For me, the ability to have the instant resume with multiple games is huge. Quick resume was the thing that separated the One from the 360 to me, and this is a natural evolution.

So many people bringing up resolution. At the same time, most people sit a distance away from their TVs at which it's impossible to tell the difference, especially in motion.

Being disc-less already makes this a non-buy for me.

This is like the 360 core conceptually.
I dont think it's gonna sell that well.

They make you think you'respending less, but you're actually not.
That hard disk wont last you the whole gen and you'll be forced to buy a new one.

no systems hardrive space has lasted the whole gen for 10 years now so why does it matter if your 512, 825gb or 1Tb? All console and PCs need more eventually so doesn't really matter where you start you need an extrenal storage options from the get go or 2 years from now from collections. It is what it is

Sure, installed COD and then be force to buy a proprietary SSD from MS. What value. This is an add-on and subscription selling box, low barrier to entry but the final price spent will be much higher. I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't come with a controller. ;)

Did you think this through before posting?

What I'm actually curious about is how less RAM is going to affect textures.

Normally, when you develop a game you have a budget for everything, so textures might be a certain quality, and you'd fit them into RAM effectively. So a game developed for 4k is going to be using higher resolution textures, or a game might be developed for 1440p and use even higher resolution textures and framerate at the cost of overall pixels pushed.

Now, we have a situation where say, the amount of overall stuff that can be pushed on-screen is less, but is supposed to be balanced out by a lower resolution. Except unless you're downscaling those hi-res textures on-the-fly (isn't that going to take some overhead), you're gonna be left with textures and assets that are too big for the assigned memory. I mean, even with SSD streaming of assets, we're still looking at a smaller overall buffer for what's essentially going to be the same-sized asset as whatever is being showcased in the 4k game, right?

So are they shipping games with multiple asset sizes? (inflating game size?) Is the console going to be setting texture quality on its own from the larger assets in the download? (unless there's custom hardware, which there could be, wouldn't this use CPU cycles?) Are they basically dictating that all textures/assets be made at the lower-quality level, and the more powerful 4k versions have to just deal with reduced quality?

9th gen, external archival storage seems to be a must, but it's no different to current gen Xbox owners as well. Including myself, EVERY person has thier library on an external.

plug what you already have in, load your current game to SSD for speedier access? No problem.

Pretty good for a budget digital viesion. However, that 512 GB SSD is not so hot. Hopefully there will be an option for an external hard drive. For me, it will be the Series X or nothing

If people haven't figured it out by now they make it explicit - they will rely on VRS to be their DLSS-like solution.

Of course, it's all non-sense. This is not a 1440p console, it's a 1080p one at best, but they're gonna hide through so many layers of obfuscation that 99.9% of people won't know to dispute it ("up to", "Dynamic res", "VRS" etc).

You mean like the "dynamic" -checkerboarded 4k on PS4PRO?
