So Xenoblade Chronicles 3D is larger than Devil Survivor 2: Break Record. Fair enough.
And I believe we already knew XenoX size since pre-load begins few weeks ago

So Xenoblade X coming in multiple discs confirmed? Since a dual layer can only hold 9 GB, it means 3 discs.
Also RE:R for 3DS was 4 GB, so not the biggest 3DS game.
Edit: The tech is half a BR disc, so barely 1 disc.

I'll go retail for both.

I'd have the space on my 3DS' SD-card, but I'd rather have the black-EU box.

The WiiU uses it's own propriatory form of Blu-Ray. A singlelayer Blu-Ray can hold 25 GB .

Unsurprisingly, they are both massive games.

Biggest 3DS game ever, right?
Yeah. Bigger than Devil Survivor 2: Break Record by 100 MB

Newsflash: Wii U uses a proprietary Blu Ray variant. Not DVDs lol.

A ton of games were 10-20GB on Wii U already. (Bayonetta 1 16GB, Bayonetta 2 15GB, DKCTF 12GB, TW101 10GB, Lego City Undercover 19GB, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U 17GB) ...

WiiU doesn't use DVDs, it uses a proprietary format based on Blu-Ray. A single layer holds 25 GB if i recall.

Eh, the Wii U has 25 gig disc, so no?

And wasn't the Wii version of Xenoblade on a dual layer disc? They sure did some hardcore compressing to make it a 4 gig game. Probably the carts aren't bigger than 4.

Xenoblade might be bigger in the west if it is dual audio.

Except Wii U uses single layer Blu-Ray (that are not called blu-ray to save money) and not DVD.
Ah, found the article.

Retail copies of Wii U games are distributed on Wii U Optical Disc, a proprietary high-density optical disc format co-developed with Panasonic. The format is similar in design and specifications to Blu-ray Disc, with a capacity of 25 GB per layer, but the discs themselves have a soft, rounded rim...
So a hybrid of BR and DVD.

The Japanese version of Xenoblade is on a single layer disc, since it is single audio.
I suppose that the 3DS version will have only English voices on the West.

IIRC, Xenoblade was only a dual-layer game outside of Japan, to compensate for offering both VA tracks. I think it's a safe bet that there won't be any dual audio this time around due to game card sizes.

Does external storage not exist where you live?
This to me isn't a fix.

I don't want an extra box standing on my shelf. I don't want ugly extenders messing with the aesthetics, yeah it looks ugly as hell. Sure I bought it to play games. Sure I would never ever buy digital on Nintendo(where I live Nintendo can and will fuck you over). Sure I can buy a custom case for the External HDD. Sure I can make it look as good as possible but that doesn't mean I want to put an extra thing in my shelf messing up the Feng Shui.

My shelf, my taste. Fuck external storage.

A small USB drive in the back isn't gonna fuck with the aesthetics...

So what's your problem if you'd never buy digital anyway? What would you prefer they do, increase the internal flash memory which would make the system more expensive? You know it's not an actual hard disk drive that's inside there, yes?

USB flash drives aren't recomended.

Those game are meant to be bought physically imo.
But the director himself has said that the game runs better as a download, because of loading times. They've suggested that they have implemented something to improve performance for those who buy retail, hinting at an install option. Either way, space would be an actual concern.

Does the Wii U have an install option when you but the physical disc?
No. That's why the small storage never was a problem unless you buy digital games.

They need to streamline the external hard drive usage and add a 64GB and 128GB SKU.
RIP your wallet because those would be a lot more expensive than you just buying an external drive of your choosing.

I forgot, does the Wii U take SD cards as storage like the Wii did?
No. SD cards are for Wii Mode only. Use USB hard drives or bust.

Maybe so, they still work fine, if aesthetics are that important! I have used one for more than a year, no problems at all. I did switch to a 2.5 inch HDD, since I bought a couple of retail DD games.

ftfy.
A single layer BD is 25GB, A Wii U disc is 25GB per layer. So it's like a BD.

Gotta love posts like those. Sure this doesn't effect me... But what if!

Seriously though, people do realize it's flash memory in that thing and not a HDD right? People complain the device is expensive yet wants Nintendo to add more memory which would raise the cost.

Anyways, nice to hear. Definitely seems like monolith soft stuffed the game with content. I look forward to it

Assuming it is really 3.6GB, then it should be around 28.8k blocks
Woof. Looks like I'm gonna have to upgrade to that 128GB microSD card sooner than I thought. I tried deleting some of my games that I figured I was done with, but with Codename Steam, Xenoblade Chronicles, Etrian Mystery Dungeon, and more coming out it's gonna fill right back up.

Yeah, I find complaining about memory is dumb specially when 64 GB USB sticks are small and out of the way.

uhm....that invites a whole other set of problems.

Sigh...yeah I know everyone likes to take like 10000% extra for storage space but yeah I would pay extra for it.
My problem? I want a lot. I want pancakes, I want pancakes with strawberries, I want pancakes with strawberries and cream. I Want someone else to clean today. I want someone else to go to work instead of me. I want someone else to deal with the fucking idiots sitting there drooling thinking that because they worked there for 10 years they never need to learn anything new because things should never change. I want Nintendo Sweden to stop being so fucking rocky. I want to be able to download a game without noting that I'll have to pay at least half of the system worth to get it back if shit fails. I don't want to get lucky with whom I speak to. I want some order and guidelines that doesn't fuck me over every damn time.

Oh and I wan't pancakes.

Edit: And now I'm going to the store to buy some eggs and cream. I'm making pancakes.

I think the max IS 25GB dual-layered.

EDIT: For the Wii U discs, I mean.
Nah, 25GB is just one layer. Reason why they don't go for more is because your read speed drops drastically. (which means longer load times)

Unlike the two other consoles, mandatory game installs on a hdd aren't obligatory/possible, so that's why they try to stick to the 25GB ones.

Watch Dogs installs directly to the flash memory, right? It's not a big installation (I don't think it's even a gig), but I know it's mandatory to play the retail copy of the game.

Director of Xenoblade X said that he prefer the digital version because of loading times. But perhaps they use a chunk of internal flash to speed up disc version.

Quote:
Moving on the field is completely seamless. However, loading occurs in cases like event scenarios. I recommend playing the downloadable version so you don’t have to worry about loading from the disk. Of course, the disk version is also tuned as much as possible to reduce the loading time. We are consulting Nintendo as to whether or not the main data can be read from the console
