Next gen is finally here!

That's not going to make it into a western release is it?

Unless there are liscencing issues, I think it might. They probably don't care enough about the series to try to localize it to 'appeal' to westerners or whatever.

In a recent interview Nagoshi said the series has "around 100,000 players" in the west which is way lower than in Japan and Asian countries. Anybody have total western sales numbers? All I've got is that someone said all western-released Yakuza games in the west combined have sold less than a million copies.

100,000? are you serious?

that is disgusting. This is a high quality game that deserves much more.

It actually pisses me off.. I love this series so much, bought all of them. I feel like 6 could actually be popular!! it seems like the gameplay has finally been brought to current gen which us westerners might accept.

Yakuza hasn't really seen any cuts since the 3rd game. Sure songs here and there get cut, and answerXanswer was never translated (not really missing out on much there trust me) but everything else has made it in. I guess the best way to tell is to see if Yakuza 0 is truly uncut in content - you have "Cat Fights" (ladies wearing next to nothing wrestling) and unlockable videos showing women in skimpy clothing smiling at the camera and playing with balloons... if both those bits make it into the English release I see no reason for 6 to have any cut content (though if Sega were merciful they'd cut Cat Fighting, its an awful mini game from a gameplay standpoint).
They already said nothing is being removed for 0's localization.

if she keeps the bra, should be fine ?

I think you've got it backwards. It's Japan where nudity is not allowed in console games, they censor console versions of eroge and western games that feature nudity.

So this is essentially the perfect game...

...and we aren't going to get it, are we? (And if we are, probably not until 2 years or so...)

This is the really important stuff.

I can't wait to waste hours playing darts and mahjong again.

I think 3 was the best selling one in the US with around 70k. 1 sold about 50k, if I recall correctly.

2 and 4 were at like 25k.

Not sure what the European sales are like.

We can finally participate in an actual Baseball game. THANK GOD!

Also, very happy to see the Darts getting changed drastically.

Honestly that's more than I expected. I think Yakuza Dead Souls sold less than 10k in the west which is criminally low.

Cat cafe and livecam girls.. whaaaaaaaat!

Seriously though, there is gonna be a point where there is TOO much to do in the Yakuza games. I never platinumed yakuza 3 cos of the minigame trophy. lol

Yakuza 3 Golf made me abandon ever trying to platinum anything in the series. Just beating the shogi minigame in 2 was enough of a nightmare for me, thanks.

Well it didn't help that Dead Souls is the worst Yakuza game by far. The combat in that game is just dreadful.

People are always getting that backwards.

I've joked that if Sega really wanted to make the localizations worth it, they'd put in all the smut people think are in these games (strippers, porn mags, etc) for the Western version and watch a bunch of Japanese fans reverse import them. I think part of the reason Yakuza 3 sold well is people thought the cut hostess scenes meant the games are a lot dirtier than they actually are.

I agree, but when you consider that other garbage like ORC manage to sell 2 million copies in less than a year, Yakuza Dead Souls dreadful sells just tell you how little interest the western audience has in the Yakuza brand.

Dead Souls was a decent run n' gun shooter. A Steam release, for example, could really help it as the technical issues it had on PS3 were my chiefest issue with the game.
Just my worthless 2 cents :x

Being on PC would do wonders for the series. More streamers would also get into the series which would definitely give it a boost too.

I've heard the full VF is in it, is that Puyo Puyo also the full game? Fuck, i need some Yakuza in my life like yesterday. I did play through 1 and 2 as they were coming out but i don't remember much i am debating watching a bunch of videos to catch up on 1-4 and buying 5 on PS3.

The livecam stuff probably will get cut if it comes out over here.
If you compare the cuts to 3 to 4 and see how they really wanted to not cut anything out who knows if we get it.

Seems like they really wanted 4 to come out untouched they cut Answer X Answer because of how much work it would of taken. Doesn't bother me if it's cut or not personally and although i don't get upset when things are censored when they come here and things taken out because of that i understand people do want it so i always side with put it in and give people the option to experience it that way or the censored way.

There's no reason for them to remove it unless the actresses don't consent to having their likenesses used in the western version or something. It wouldn't be disallowed by the ESRB, it's not like they get naked or anything because that wouldn't even be allowed in Japan because of CERO.

I personally blame SEGA for the series failure in the West. They did nothing to combat the word-of-mouth misconception of it being a poor GTA clone in the early days then proceeded to not advertise the sequels. They had a great fucking chance of getting this series a big audience in the West with Ishin. There was a low amount of PS4 games at the time and people were hungry. But nope, fuck that.

If GTA 5 can have you picking up prostitutes and have them "service" you in First Person no less , then I think this game should be fine.

I would recommend you to start with Yakuza 4. It has recaps of the earlier titles in its menu and it's a great entry point for newcomers/people who don't remember much about older games, since it announces 3 new protags including the GOAT Shun Akiyama.

And although Yakuza 5 is the better game overall, I liked the story in Yakuza 4 better.

If it comes, it will be after 0. I think they may skip it and just go straight to localizing 6, though.

i love the yakuza cycle: im out here counting the days till 0 in january & keeping an outside hope that kiwami gets localized, and then TGS videos for 6 pour in and kill so much hype, haha

swear to god a year plus from now illl be doing this with 6 and drooling over kiwami 2 screens or some shit

One step closer to Yakuza literally being a Japan simulator.

it's already a Kiryu sim, just been expanding since then

Well, if you think about it purely in revenue 100,000 x 60 = 6 million USD.

I'm sure somebody out there is willing to generate that revenue for subbing a game to English. It might not get a physical release, but a western digital release on PSN, I'd think so. And I think that figure might be a bit outdated. I'm not sure but I think they were pleased with how Yakuza 4 and 5 did.
