Yakuza KIWAMI |OT| Translator's Note: "KIWAMI" means "EXTREME"

The argument for playing Yakuza Kiwami first is that 0 already remade a couple of set-pieces and stages of the original Yakuza and did them better than Kiwami.

Like, during the whole chapter 3 brawl in
Tojo HQ
all I could think was "Yakuza 0 did this stage way better".

Oh god, that black fighter's VA is just some Japanese guy's voice slowed down, isn't it?

Weird af.

I'm still unsure if that VA is racist or not.

I'm still not sure if the western intro song is horrible, awesome or horrible and I just enjoy it anyway.

I'd need to listen to the original song from the japanese version but I can't seem to find it, just an alternate DLC intro song.

Usually I don't like the japanese vocal songs this series has been using.

Does anyone know at what point Majima reactivates?

What's the best thing to get for reselling for cash from the points you get from the (Chapter 7 and beyond very minor spoiler)
casino in the Purgatory
. I was surprised to see all items you can trade for the points being seemingly stuff you use and no platinum/ruby/diamond plates. I pretty much bought points for all my money and then doubled them but now I want my cash back.

I think I'm close to the end have to say kiwami is a really good follow up game to 0 for the time frame we had to wait to get it. 0 was so meaty and platting it took a lot out of me so I'm a bit glad kiwami seems to be a far less draining endeavor on that front.

That said despite enjoying the shit out of it I do feel the signs of burn out.
It makes me wonder if I shouldn't take a break that might last as long as the wait to English kiwami 2(for some reason I just prefer to play these in English) and skip on 6 until after.

The downside would be likely going back from all the dragon engine improvements part of kiwami 2 to 6. Not sure yet.

Yeah I bought kiwami 1 but I will wait some time to play it because I finished 0 a few weeks ago, I don't want to get burn out. Kiwami 2 will come next year anyway, I've plenty of time.

Question: I got a text message from Majima's lieutenant saying to go to the Shine because of some girl who wouldn't quit until she met Kiryu. But I went there and I didn't get a choice, I just hung out with Rina. Is that who the text was referring to? Because she made no mention of wanting to quit or anything. what do

It's not Rina

It's seemingly random. I left and came back half an hour later and it worked.

This one's the actual opening.

I don't like it that much compared to the original Receive You, but it's definitely better than what we got IMO.

I swear I ended up hating Bacchus because of this voice clip alone.

Can't seem to find any scotch whisky or sake in chapter 4. Any tips?

Is 24 Hour Cinderella in?

Going by the completion list, doesn't look like it.

Though I guess it's possible I just haven't been to a karaoke that has it? Can't remember how it was in Y0, whether or not the completion list displayed all of the available songs even if you hadn't found them yet.

You can buy them at a store or if you have patience, you can play some secondary missions and get them as a reward. Grabing them from a store is way faster than doing the missions though

Sake is in the nation wide convenience store in the top left. Scotch whisky is in one of actual convenience stores in the bottom/middle. Each store tends to have a specific liquor

I'm only about halfway through this right now (iirc from the original), but it's definitely not proving to be as enjoyable as Zero.

Could just be that knowing the story from playing the original is dampening my enthusiasm. It's still good and all, but not Zero good.

If he's in the park chilling out, then not until the next chapter. I used that time to mop up a bunch of sub stories

Cool... thanks! I will in the middle of a couple good mini game appearances and then I filled the rank C bar and "poof" he's on break!

Damn it Majima!

I'm not that far in yet but it just isn't as good. The characters aren't nearly as entertaining as in 0. I'm still having a good time, but they definitely learned a lot over the past 10 years. It's really interesting that 0 and Kiwami run on the exact same tech with mostly the same assets - it really highlights the differences in game design and storytelling that they couldn't or wouldn't paper over.

So I don't normally buy bento from the shops but I needed some healing items before going to
Tojo HQ for the funeral.

Turned into a Majima fight.

Sad thing is, Kiryu was never able to heat up his bento :(.

When I played the JP version, I ran into him as a policeman first time iirc so it was nice to see something different. Didn't think buying bento would have done that XD.

Is it just me or do locker keys seem easier to find than previous games? Not that I'm complaining but it feels easier.

Some of the locations were changed in Kiwami compared to the original release of 1. In the PS2 version a couple of locker keys appeared in locations that you'd only visit once while in this one the only put them in the overrworld.

By the end of the game you'll realize they absolutely mean Majima Everywhere.

Woohoo, the DRAGON is BACK, stronger then ever!

Can't wait for final confrontation using this style.
You beast.

I really need to start grinding out Majima, I need that classic stance. It'll be my last chance to experience it before Yakuza 6 rolls around :(

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
man some of the environments and character models are really rough huh

for those who played kiwami & yakuza 3, should i prepare myself for another stepback in terms of features/graphics/storytelling or is it about the same?

Played Yakuza 3 a couple years ago and it already was feeling a bit dated in terms of visual models and combat(an upgrade over the PS2 games, but still has a lot of questionable holdover issues such as plenty of lock-on snafus, more whiffing air than hits, a lack of situational combat options, animation holdovers and other nonsense). Definitely prepare for the game to not look or play nearly as sharp as 0/Kiwami.

I liked the story in 3 a LOT more, though I think Y1 is literally the bottom of the barrel for the franchise(haven't played 5 though). Y3 does have entirely new locations to visit(well Kamurocho is back again for certain chapters, but the bulk of the game is in a different city). It also has a real slow start at the orphanage which takes 2-3 hours to work through before the game begins proper. Once it starts moving, it improves dramatically, but a level of patience is required to handle those opening hours.

I am thinking of playing through the whole Yakuza series by order. I already beat Yakuza 0, 3, and 4. I have not played 5 yet and currently playing through Yakuza Kiwami. I am probably going to wait until Yakuza Kiwami 2 comes to out in the states and play that. I actually might play through Yakuza 3 and 4 again because I beat those when those were first released. I also want to play Yakuza: Dead Souls.

Aaaaand done. Main story finished. Now to mop up the rest of substories and maybe I'll start Ishin...

It's been remade very well, but you can feel the writing isn't quite there yet, 2 was a real step forward in that department.

Watching the credits roll now myself, had the same conclusion.

I kinda rushed through the game as I didn't want any of the newer stuff spoiled for me even though I was already familiar with the major plot points from the original. Gonna let the game sit for a few days while I start to tackle the other releases from Tuesday in earnest but I really want to finish the substories and max out the dragon stance once things settle down.

Looks like the casino related completion list entries are borked somehow. "Earn a total of 50k in blackjack" is showing 1950 in winnings so far for me, even though I played it for like 20 minutes, winning over 4k chips a couple of times.

I'm rank A with majima but a LOT of moves are missing from the Dragon part. Stuff that I did and did not gain. This is a major bug for me and I really want a patch. :/
