You can only play one series whose IP was started this gen, what would it be?

Souls games for sure. I play Dark Souls how people played Diablo 2, multiple characters, PvP, co-op and playthrough builds. I play it all the time, in many different ways and styles, never gets old, especially with its innovative multiplayer and one of a kind of gameplay.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or Valkyria Chronicles.

As much as I like Bioshock, it doesn't have that much replayability or anything like that.

InFAMOUS.

I dont understand the praise uncharted gets. i didn't play the ones on ps3 though (played the demos of the first at home and of 3 at a retail store, didn't like either).

I was compelled enough to watch the movie summarized versions on youtube and it was a entertaining watch.

I recently tried out the one on the vita (the only one I own). I played for a few hours, amazing graphics and I even took a few screenshots but I still couldnt stand the gameplay and never bothered finishing it.

Uncharted definitely. I think they have a lot of room to grow the franchise as well so there is lots of potential with each game. Better puzzles, you can make climbing a more realistic/challenging thing where Drake has an axe pick he uses to climb, keep improving the AI and hit detection, etc.

Hmm, if STALKER counts, then STALKER. I am so sad about STALKER2 :(

In terms of conventional this gen? Hmm... Mass Effect and Uncharted. They're both so different it's hard to call. I could probably finish the Uncharted Trilogy in the time it takes to get through one Mass Effect game, so on longevity, Mass Effect is more satisfying. I really love the world in Mass Effect too, I'm totally into the fiction there.

However, Uncharted probably has the best production values of any game, like ever. It really does feel like a mid-budget Hollywood action movie, and has some absolute fantastic set-pieces.

Don't make me
get out of here, Stalker
choose!

Well damn. Guess I should really get serious about playing the Uncharted series.

As of now, it's either LittleBigPlanet or Valkyria Chronicles. LBP has the edge for having a virtually endless supply of great content and satisfying sequels. But the first VC is so good, I'd probably be fine just replaying that over and over while ignoring the existence of the sequels.

Portal
Professor Layton
Left 4 Dead

Never understand the love for Uncharted. I beat all 3 games and found them all average.

Dragon's Dogma please. Thank you.

Another vote for Bayonetta.

Tough to leave behind Vanquish, Mass Effect, Arkham Asylum/City, and Assassin's Creed, but Bayonetta has so much replayability and is so fun that its number one in my book. Unless Mario Galaxy counts as a new franchise. Then I would probably just shoot myself.

The Witcher, 'Souls or Stalker. I can't think of much else, I mean I liked other games but they're too repetitive and dull to play for long periods of time.

Or STALKER. Damn it I can't decide.

Uncharted would probably be the last of my picks.
I don't even dislike the game (mostly thank to its fine execution), but in terms of mechanics it summarizes pretty much everything i dislike about "triple A" console games: setpieces, scripts, linear progression, "cinematic experiences", quicktime events, and so on.

Someone named STALKER and Dark Souls. Those are two nice picks I would easily agree with.
Mine, anyway, would be Mount & Blade.

You are all good people. STALKER for me too. The world's so dynamic and alive, and the game has some pretty intense personal meaning for me as well. On top of that, mods have breathed new life into the series, and I've put about a hundred hours into Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky both, never really 'beating' either. I just love getting lost in their worlds.

I am baffled at the people mentioning Uncharted. The games are short, linear, and stupidly written. Wouldn't you, like, get tired of them or something?

Ouendan/Elite Beat Agents..

If it's the only game I can play I'll eventually be good enough to beat them all.

I definitely can't pick just one series but if I had to pick one that I haven't seen mentioned in the 3 pages I've read...Dead Rising. Love that series, even loved Off the Record.

And probably Assassin's Creed and Gears.

Three games, that besides being a joy to play, also have a fun multiplayer? I'm baffled that you're baffled.

Portal
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Left 4 Dead

Can't decide. Leaning towards L4D, put so many hours in to them.

EDIT: CTE's mention of Borderlands has thrown me, great series as well!
