Your favorite multiplayer experience this generation?

Best:

World of Warcraft
Minecraft
Battlefield: BC2
Halo: Reach
Burnout Paradise

Worst:
All COD due to the annoying playerbase :/. Can't believe all the screaming and racism. Just makes me sad for humanity.

Online multiplayer : Monster Hunter Tri

860+ hours in and I still play it on a weekly basis. The combination of strategy and teamwork makes taking down some of the biggest and baddest monsters in gaming a very satisfying experience.

runner - up: Team Fortress 2

An FPS game with a personality. This would have been my first pick but FPS games make me sweat and PC gaming is general isn't as comfortable as gaming on the home console. Also, Pyro rocks!

Offline multiplayer: Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Accessible gameplay + intuitive controls + Nintendo franchise content = Awesome

Runner - up: Mario Kart Wii

Few games can get my brother, sister, sister's boyfriend, and myself to play together. We laugh, we curse, we race.

Came in hoping to see some awesome offline multi-player games I'd missed....left disappointed.

I hate online gaming for destroying decent offline multiplayer games. PS1>this gen for playing with your mates.

BLUR online mp was FANTASTIC and only me and 5 others bothered :(((

Also Resi Evil Mercs, once I played with a few decent players it took my mercs skill level way higher than I thought possible, shit was so addictive. Nothing like a good clean session with a don player, good times.

Thanks for the heads-up! It's always fascinated me as a bit of a quiet heavyweight, whilst the rest of the class-based shooters, Battlefield predominantly, make the noise. I put it in the same boat as Frontlines. Good, intricate and solid class-based shooters.
Well I wouldn't put it in the same boat as Frontlines, but I see where you're coming from. I think it's more fair to say that TF2 stole its thunder, as that's what it primarily derives from. Though one was advanced and the other was simplistic right at the time when CoD4 and TF2 came out and became huge. It was a case of very, very poor timing, caused by delays, caused by the console versions, both of which flopped horribly. Poor management from someone who thought a PC game should be on consoles, makes me mad to this day!

Left 4 Dead 2 is literally the only game I bother to play online. Even other games that I'm a big fan of (Bad Company 2, Call of Duty 4) I only play the single player campaigns to.

Let's hope Brink makes a bigger, longer splash.

I have to give a shout out to Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. It's a breath of fresh air.

Splosion Man has some of the best 4 player local co-op I've ever played.

These are my 6 picks:

Perfect Dark Zero was my online game of choice for the first 8 months of 360's release.
Left 4 Dead was a whole new experience of co-op.
Bad Company 2 was the best Battlefield since 2.
Halo Reach is still dominating my play time with over 300 hours.
Gears was beautiful, addicting and an awesome co-op experience.
Counter Strike: Source is FPS perfection.

Super Street Fighter IV (PS3): Almost 400 hours later and still enjoying to death. Local and online multiplayer.

N+ (XBLA): I haven't laugh this much in my life. 4 players local co-op is absolute madness.

Goldeneye Source (PC): Although I started playing it since the release of the 4.1 beta, I'm already in love. I created my private server to play with other 7 friends like it should be played: LTK and no radar. It really feels like GE64 (minus the framerate).

Demon's Souls allowed me to play single player but feel like a part of something bigger - and NG+ as a human was so, so worth it for the occasional invade.

for normal MP though, id say i had the best time with Red Dead Redemption, getting a posse and starting mayhem was every bit as fun as id hoped.

Wii Sports. Without a doubt. I've had amazing multiplayer experiences with it with my gamer friends, my non-gamer friends, my family... everyone. It truly is in a league of its own.

Second place goes to Rock Band and its various incarnations, which have also provided great fun for large groups of friends.

Other honorable mentions are New Super Mario Bros Wii, Smash Bros Brawl, Halo 3 and the various Lego games. But none of these beat out Wii Sports. Honestly, I doubt anything will for a long time.

I just realized that despite me having played alot of online none of the experiences themselves stand out as something really good. Red Dead Redemption is alot of fun online. World of Warcraft was alot of fun before Cataclysm. LittleBigPlanet is enjoyable under the right circumstances.

Out of everything I'd have to say that Left 4 Dead 2 has been the best online experience.

Demon's Souls above all.

LBP, GTA4, RDR, COD4, Killzone 2, Far Cry 2 (usermade maps!) and of course Wipeout HD (seriously underrated mp).

edit: OH OHH and Skate 2! incredible amounts of pure fun.

At the moment it's still Phantasy Star Universe. I've put so much time and it's really fun when you get a full party together and do something other than White Beast.

Gears of War 2

The game had many, many problems, but i had so much fun with this game. I had a steady group of friends and it was awesome. Sure i've been mad at the game for al the glitches and other bulshit but the good times really stand out.

I've had lots of fun multiplayer sessions on the current consoles, but Mario Kart Wii and Borderlands are two of my favorites.
Also I play lots of Uno with my friend online over WiiWare and I also have it on Xbox Live Arcade but no longer play it due to lack of XBL Gold, but when I was a Gold subscriber it was easily my most played XBLA game.

World of Warcraft

Uncharted 2

Resident Evil 5

Gears of War

Super Street Fighter IV

and very soon I'm sure, Marvel vs Capcom 3
