With a great sequel released, sor4, i decided to make this pool.

Vote with genesis games in mind, and i put Bare Knuckle 3 (jp version of sor3) because its almost a completely different game, the way u play, difficult, different chars, etc...

It's hard to decide, i know. It's an amazing series, and Sor 4 did the deserved justice to the series!

Please vote and justify your vote! Don't hit and run >:(

first game for sure, it was just the perfect game to play with my brothers, i never had the other games as a kid and i only played them when i was way older so they didn't click with me like the first game did.

It's between 2 and 4. 1 and 3 are not even slightly in the running for me.

It's honestly a toss up. I'm hoping that they have some DLC, a couple more characters, and some balance patch updates coming to part 4 soon. If they do that and make it even better, 4 will easily be my favorite. But 2 is a masterpiece and for now they're probably tied.

Loved the 1st, its tunes, graphical effects, use of colors and the cops break the gameplay... and that's soooo cool! I own it on MegaDrive, japanese mega cd and 3ds.

Bare knuckles 3 comes really close.

I don't care about 2 and 4, but i liked 2. I own them all anyway and i'll be on board for a 5.

I would say 3(Bare Knuckles 3), because it improves the pacing by adding the dash ability and the sacrifice move can now be mitigated by the use of a full special bar.

But I would put the first one at the top as well.

I'd say that 2 still holds the crown for me, but I'm enjoying 4 the more I play it, so that might change in the future. I also like 3 (even most of the music), but 1 now seems like a beta version of 2 to me (although it's still a good game on its own merits)

Much as I'm enjoying 4 and it's updated mechanics it still falls on 2 for me. I just still prefer 2's stage selection and progression through them, as well as the bosses (Except Jet. Always hated that fight) and variety of enemy encounters. And of course the presentation is still good and the music remains legendary (Though part 1 is up there for music as well).

I prefer SoR1 over 2 but I'm not sure why. Feels like SoR2 has more situations where you can get unlucky, or unfair design for some enemies.

I admit 2 is the better game overall and it's the one I'd recommend to anyone who wanted to play a SoR game for the first time, but I usually have more fun playing 1. Both games have a masterpiece soundtrack though. Under Logic (SoR2) is my fav song in the series.

I'm gonna say 2 because it improved on everything bar the music from the first.

The music in the third game is absolutely dreadful. Impressive sure but incoherent nonsense most of the time.

Haven't played the 4th yet.

Im shocked...Sor 4 is so polished and well made...Low votes...

Gameplay is clever -10
Graphics are beautiful -10
Music is terrific - 10

I Think Sor4 deserves more praise, game is AWESOME! Goty material imho.

But no problem, taste is unique for each person.

My favorites are sor4 and bk3! But i love them all!

Bare Knuckle 3 has always been my favourite. A shit final boss unfortunately but techno music that was ahead of it's time, multiple routes, blitz upgrades, running and rolling, unlockable characters, brings back team attacks from SOR1. So many improvements and for some reason, SOR4 decided to go backwards in design...

So4 has lots of chars to unlock, air special, juggles, star super...

I think they removed the up and down roll to make a more footsie game, and each char has his unique abilities, dash, running etc...

I disagree that sor4 is a stepback.

I've changed my vote to 4. It's the best one. Best OST. By far, the best gameplay. Floyd blows away Max. Everyone has more moves and more combo potential. The best looking one in the series.

Just needs a few balance tweaks to address the excessive super armor. It's the best one, but I don't fault anyone picking 2. It is a masterpiece.

Streets of Rage > SOR 2 > SOR 4 > SOR 3 for me.

Definitely SOR2 - but I haven't played SOR4 yet.

SOR was decent - but I found the characters were too small even at the time, seeing big characters for Final Fight. I did like the music, but it wasn't the biggest hit that I was hoping for.

SOR2, pretty much doubled the size of the character, and also had its unique charm of doing different combos, that felt great. Music was great, setting was great - everything was great... although I haven't really played as the little kid with the skateboard.

SOR3... is my least favorite. For some reason, just couldn't get into it much... as I was getting bored of side scrolling beat'em up games by then. I think it was just time of the generation, where it really moved on. I was fully into 2D fighting games then - so probably thats why.

SOR4 seems promising - a nostalgic trip to the past - so someday I would like to play the game when I get a chance.

I've played them all, in order of release, and Streets of Rage 2 is the winner by a longshot as far as I'm concerned.

In order: 2 > 1 > 4 > 3

4 is really well made and does a great job introducing new things, but it is slow compared to the Glory of SoR2.

I should say that I've played 2 countless times, and have beaten it on Mania difficulty with 1 starting life (only with Axel, but still). Playing 4 just doesn't feel right to me, and that's probably because of all my experience with 1 & 2.

What does everyone think of the game length in SoR4? At around 2 hours, it takes roughly twice as long to play through as 1-3. While that has a good side (more content), it means that a playthrough does require a bit more of a time commitment. One reason I still play 1-3 regularly is that I know I can have a quick blast through whenever I have a free hour. Although I'm having a great time with it now, 4's increased length may prevent me from replaying it as much as the others, 1, 2 or 5 years from now.

Doesn't 4 have a save feature on Story Mode or something like that? You can play for an hour, stop, and then continue where you left off the last time you played.

I think they might have made it longer due to Sega's games getting flak in the past for being too short. Either way, I'm fine with the length.

I actually wasn't a fan of it, the game sort of overstayed its welcome for me. In my old age I don't get much time for games either, so padding it out was not what I wanted.

It does have a save feature (I'm going to continue my Floyd game later on tonight), but it's not quite the same as a one hour playthrough right to the end.

2 hours is close to the limit for these kind of games imo (unless there is some RPG elements, as in Guardian Heroes). That said, I think SoR4 is just short enough not to outstay its welcome. If it was an extra 20 minutes long then I might feel differently.

I liked 4 a lot but the nostalgia factor is strong with 2. I actually conned one of my father's friends into getting it for me. He was visiting us in New York and decided to buy us a videogame as a present as long as it wasn't a violent videogame. He looked at the box art for the game and said, 'Really, this isn't a violent videogame.' I was like, 'sure.' Then I proceeded to wheedle him down until he caved and bought the game. He wasn't the happiest when he saw me playing it.

Streets of Rage was never a juggler and nor should it be. I don't care for the star super. It just slows the game down even more. And the music is ass. The game is just not that good. People will realise in time when the hype train slows down.

Go home ur drunk

It took 28 years, but 2 has finally been dethroned by 4 (including the soundtrack).
You too

Gameplay wise, Bare Knuckles 3 is much better than the previous games. You can do so many different things, and it is also much faster. The soundtrack is disappointing, but this is still the best game in my opinion.

Then the first game, which perfectly nailed presentation and music, as well as a satisfying, yet simple, gameplay. Really deserves the legendary status.

The second game is my least favorite. It felt like a simple upgrade of the first game, except that the atmosphere and soundtrack aren't as good. Characters are bigger, but it is basically the same thing as before, so not much to see here. I get bored pretty quickly playing this game.

Streets of Rage 4 is very good, I had great fun, but ultimately, I prefer 1 and 3. Still a great effort.

Nitpicking but I love the soundtrack to 3. It's not as joyful as 2 but that chip is doing shit that chip should not be doing.

Just mentioning cause it doesn't get much love.

If you like MegaDrive sound, I suggest to drop by in the thread SNES vs Genesis where we are posting a ton of absolutely brilliant MegaDrive soundtracks.

Anyone got any favourite tracks from SoR3? These are mine:

This is a great anthem like track:

I don't know how to describe this one, but I like it:

I think this is a great boss theme. It starts off pretty intimidating, then ups the tempo from there:

This one is just plain groovy:

Not as good as 1, 2 or 4, but it has some fine tracks nonetheless.

Did anyone else use to just stay on the SoR3 character select screen transfixed? It just has an hypnotic quality to it:

For me personally it's Streets of Rage 2.

Also loved SOR1.

Hated 3 and 4 was average.

SOR2
SOR1

SOR4
SOR3

I need to put more time in 4 but 1 has always stuck with me. I guess because it was the first one and it just made that lasting impression. I like them all though.

Cheers for the heads up. I'm already keeping tabs on that thread :)

Despite not being an official game SoR Remake is my favorite. I have spent more time on that game alone (unlocking everything in the shop takes approx 40 hours) than all other 4 combined. Speaking of combination, it's what I love about SoRR: It might feel like a SoR 2 remake at first but it has all the stages from the first three games and you need multiple playthroughs through multiple routes to see them all. It also has new stages based on prototype screenshots and a few original ones. SoR4's train level was clearly inspired from this game's train section, down to the warning signs before having to jump obstacles:

Like in SoR4 you can unlock character versions from every game, (The SoR1 versions have redrawn sprites so they match the rest) but here they all had added rolling, running, special moves, etc. to keep parity with their more advanced SoR3 counterparts. Adam's split kick in SoR4 was first seen in the remake:

Want music? several composers from the community (including SavagedRegime/LazyGecko) arranged all of the previous' games music, with mostly great results. The remixed SoR3 tracks actually sound good here and show how the Genesis was trying to do too much in that game.

1 is cool for it's time, but too simple
2 is great. Maybe the only problem is that you can't run
3 is kinda broken. Controls are smooth, but difficulty is weird
4 is also great, but why you can't run too?

Nope, maybe you are stuck on nostalgia, no offense.

Im faar for being an amateur to judge my tastes. Sor4 is solid and polished.

2 and Remake are by far the best (never played Japanese version of 3). 3's soundtrack was the worst and 4 is something different altogether with the streets of rage name slapped on it.

lol ok

From what i like, yes, im not a honeymoon type, that loves the game because of hype.

Man, if the game had me chills, its decided.

Re3 I was super hyped, i beat the game and i think its ass.

32 years of videogame man, i know my tastes, that's what I meant.
