Red Letter Media <- I FUCKING HOPE NOT

The RLM guys will occasionally say things that make me wonder about them, Rich in particular. On a recent stream he was downplaying the impact of Wonder Woman because girls already had Ripley to look up to, which kind of rubbed me the wrong way. Jack seems like a pretty cool dude, though.

My gf's parents voted for him. They were taken in by his promises of economic growth and fell for his smears against Hillary. I don't even think they were aware of the extent of his bullshit. They just made up their minds after a few talking points and fell completely out of the loop. A majority of people in America literally do not know what they are voting for.
So they were ignorant and stupid? Not a good excuse.

I'm confused, because Hulk wrote a big piece about how Gaters were impenetrable sociopaths who couldn't be reasoned with that made him question their very humanity, from what I remember.

I've never heard anything about Hulk. I also want to know what he's done.
There are hard right conspiracy theorists/GamerGate people/toxic CHUD members that accused Hulk of implicitly being an apologist for Devin Faraci because of his editorial about The Night Of.

Hulk speaking out against GamerGate gave people in that community an axe to grind with him.

Yeah, they've said some shit that makes me give 'em the side eye.

I don't think he was trying to be offensive with that. More just wondering why maybe some characters like ripley or sarah connor could be ignored. Obviously he's sort of being ignorant to the fact that those movies are 30+ years old now and little girls won't really know about them at all. Plus they are gory and action, while wonder woman is a pure super hero.

There has never been a candidate harder to be out of the loop with than Trump.

Oh I've lost count. The earliest may have been Kenny Everett, who appeared before a bunch of disgusting Young Conservatives in the 1983 General Election: "Let's bomb Russia – let's kick Michael Foot's stick away!" The latter was a reference to the leader of the Opposition, who had walked with the aid of a stick since a near-fatal car crash twenty years previously. Oh how they cheered!

Blair deserves a mention. His support of the Bush administration's plans to subvert the Security Council was only the most heinous in a long trail of lapdoggery.

I was never a huge fan of him personally, but I really liked Big Break as a kid and Jim Davidson was all over Saturday night telly on BBC in the mid 90's. When I saw some of his stand up a few years later and it was racist as fuck I was surprised to say the least.

Dunno how the fuck he got so mainstream (on the BBC too) in hindsight, it's not like Roy Chubby Brown was presenting the lottery at the same so I don't think I can put it down to 'oh well it was like that back then'.

EDIT: NVM, not my place to get into it. I just don't like him for reasons.

Edit: Fair enough. I can't really comment on it one way or the other since it's for things that aren't public. My mistake. I didn't mean to equate you to the GG/right wing/CHUD rhetoric.

Wow. JonTron really had a lot of fans here. I never fucked with the guy so this doesn't really bug me.

Someone said Jamie Foxx, though and that concerns me. He just clowned Doug at a roast--if that's your high bar you're going to have a lot of problems.

For me, it's gotta be Bill Cosby. I mean, I didn't think highly of him personally before b/c he kept down-talking lower-class black people from his ivory tower, but he could do that and I could enjoy TCS just fine. But then it comes out that he's a serial rapist and it's like...you ruined that show. Just...wrecked it. It was so good and like...its hard to watch it and not be creeped the fuck out. :P

You're not making them look better. in order to avoid learning about Trump they would have had to stick their heads in the sand for over a year. Even if that were true then they'd still be awful for voting without knowing who the candidates were.

H3H3 is probably the strongest example of Milkshake Duck for me. Some of his videos are actually, genuinely, comedy gold. But the platform Ethan gives to some real shitbags and their weird opinion on feminism really disappoints me.

I had to stop watching him after, like you said, he gave his platform to awful people. He grew his bran on just making silly videos and calling out shitty people, but then he started to just be friends and allow these shitty people to spread their shittiness, and would either not call out his friends or would defend them.

Ethan now is the type of person Ethan would've made a video about 2 years ago.

Mike Friedman, my next door neighbor when I was a kid. Dude was about five years older than me, and was basically Benny the Jet of our neighborhood. Bad ass baseball player, had an amazing card collection. I idolized him for most of my childhood.

Then one day, it happened. I saw him put ketchup on a hot dog. Shook me to my core. You never realize what kind of monsters live next door to you until you witness it firsthand. Really makes you think.

Everyone whose ever identified as a Scientologist. Such poisonous cult that parades as a religion and one that brainwashes its followers.

I wouldn't be surprised if some didn't want to believe it at first until it was confirmed without a shadow of a doubt that he was...problematic.
Yeah this was me

"Ok that's a pretty unfortunate view to have but that doesn't mean...*some weeks later*...oh JESUS"

not sure if that's because more stuff had dropped or I had changed as a person

Just the other day I saw a guy saying that what he said in that debate couldn't have been the real JonTron 'cus he's such a swell guy. You see that dude's Twitter post history and then 2 hours of just pure racism and people still don't want to believe it.

Re: RedLetterMedia - I stopped watching when they defended Daniel Tosh for making rape jokes. Not even defending Daniel tosh actually, so much as defending the very concept of rape jokes. https://youtube.com/watch?v=pxfDnq9ORIs

I gave them another chance with their Force Awakens Plinkett review and the second he started complaining there was too much diversity in the movie I regretted ever doing so.

I really don't consider myself attached to any celebrity enough to answer this fully.

The real answer is probably Paul Rubens for jerking off in a cinema.

Maybe Mel Gibson for being a crazy racist and Holocaust denier.

He wasn't actually complaining about diversity though.

Plus in the ghostbusters review, he praised TFA and the recent fast and furious moves for handling diverse casts.

Kind of a huge gulf between those two? I mean, one guy pulled his pud in a theater while watching a porno, the other one espouses crazy and dangerous anti-semitisim.

Honestly, I give Paul Rubens a pass. People in Hollywood have done WAAAAY worse things than pull it out during a skin movie. Gibson is still making movies and getting Oscar noms. Pulanski is still directing. Etc. It's not like PeeWee was at a screening of Cars 2.

Knut Hamsum, winner of the Nobel Prize in literature, was a huge fan of Nazi Germany and even sent Goebbels his Nobel medal as a gift. He also met with many Nazi leaders including Hitler. After the war he was tried for treason, but it was dismissed due to his mental decline.

God fucking dammit.

Hunger is one of my favorite novels of all time.

:(

Yeah, the only episode of Hot Ones I didn't really want to watch.

My point is the former did something at a point where I had a high attachment to the celebrity. Most of these more recent events I just kind of reflect on, but don't have, "I trusted you!" kind of reaction I suppose.

No, but it was at the height of Pee Wee's Playhouse, you know, that Saturday morning kids show? It's more on par if Capt. Kangaroo was caught wanking it at an X rated theatre.

People like boogie are afraid of conflict. They would rather be in the middle with no real opinion than be on one side. I don't think I would call him a milkshake duck and more of a wuss.

What else are you gonna do at an xrated movie theater? I find it odd that that sort of thing isn't allowed. Its porn fcs.

He jerked off in a porno theater. You know, a place where such an incident is bound to happen. Such a nonissue that it was unnecessarily blown out of proportion.

Have you never masturbated before?

its hard for us to imagine (seriously) but if you don't watch the news other than a few campaign speeches from the candidates and don't have politically active friends on facebook, then you're getting your news entirely from hearsay from friends or coworkers, where it's already been filtered through someone else's opinions.

Look, I'm not trying to excuse their choices. It was stupid and ignorant, I agree. I'm trying to put their choices into a larger context. They fucked up, but it doesn't make them a milkshake duck. I dunno. In the past year or so I think I've just become way more tolerant of ignorance than I used to be. Maybe it's a coping mechanism.

In any case it's a far cry from white supremacy and serial rape, which is more what this topic's about. I just got sidetracked by such open hostility, even though a part of me feels like it's deserved.

Then don't even speak about the matter if you have nothing to say.

Gamergate is a clear case of not condoning something being equal to supporting it. Trying to act as a "mediator" so that the two sides make amends is giving Gamergate a pass, allowing them continue their harassment as if it was some sort of valid opinion. He is either a "wuss" or a lowkey GG supporter. I don't care. His lack of commitment shows me everything I need to know about the guy.

If he doesn't speak about it, then he doesn't get views. He needs to speak up about the topical news so he can keep on getting views for his centrist waffle that will pay for his house since he has no other source of income. He's a coward with no integrity.

I mean, he comes off as a non-conflict sort of dude, so I'm not really disagreeing. It Also would be nearly impossible for him to get by without saying something on the matter. So he took the path that would lose the least amount of subscribers.

Most recent for me is probably Aaron Hernandez. Granted I didn't know about his issues before until I learned he was a murdering sociopath.

Can't say i've ever been a fan of Jontron or Pewdiepie but their recent alt-right remarks or defense of people espousing nonsense like "white genocide" can only be described as appalling, albeit not unsurprising for Pewdiepie given his various incendiary remarks in the past i.e. rape jokes. Boogie's "both sides"-ism is the very worst of centrism that allows harassment that he supposedly condemns to flourish by pretending Gamergate and other harassment campaigns to be seen as a platform for one to stand with, hence why I have unsubscribed from his channel and will not see any videos made by him in the future. Also, that holocaust survivor tweet was just...no.

For a semi-gaming related example, as a kid, I loved the Nickelodeon show Catscratch. Then I learned about the homophobic piece of trash who made it, Doug TenNepal (aka. the guy who recently misgendered a critic of his and engaged in targeted harassment of her), and haven't touched anything made by him since.

People who make a business out of that intelligent, sarcastic persona do seem to head that way later in life. It's kind of like a Dennis Miller effect.

So, the weirdest thing is that Pee-Wee's Playhouse started as a comedy stage show for adults. With a decent amount of suggestive content. It's just that someone got the bright idea to turn it into an actual successful kid's franchise. You're still sort of right, but Pee-Wee isn't quite cut from the same cloth as most other kid's shows. They even threw in a few jokes for adults from time to time.

Except he's not really in the middle. The "middle", as people like Boogie portray it, is actually enabling and pandering to a hate group with some ugly ties. The closest thing to the "middle" is pretending they don't exist (which is still kind of shitty), not saying "Oh gosh, I learned some things from taking the Red Pill, but I've weighed them carefully because all ideas are equal!"

I've thought about it a little more, and a surprising milkshake duck, at least for me, is probably Jim Cummings. He's a Voice Acting industry darling, and voiced probably hundreds of characters I grew up with. I even bought a set of DVDs on the way to the convention for him to sign. But he acted kind of dickish, blew off at least one panel and showed up late to another, and afterward I discovered he was kind of gross on Twitter. Because I paid so much to go to the convention, I had a free ticket to get a signing from him, and between the lengthy lines and my surprise at his behavior, I gave up on cashing it in. Even though I bought a DVD set on the way for that express purpose.

Notch for me. He seemed like a decent guy at first, but once he became filthy rich he also became a massive dick.

And while I'm on a gaming note, I used to keep up with the DS/3DS hacking community. Turns out that one of the people there I had respected (Bond697) is an unashamed transphobic bigot, judging by his Twitter. Fuck that guy.

Both stances you cite can be equally "middle" representations, but you are right in that one is worse than the other. I see what you are saying though and his stance is pretty bad. I guess my view of him now is more spineless than milkshake duck. Not that it really matters much. I can't stop seeing his personality type as the reason why he has centrist views.
