H.P. Lovecraft was one of those things where I became more invested in the things that spawned from his ideas than the original stories. Made it rather easy to divest myself from him.
Didn't he write a long rebuttal/rejection/explanation?
I missed that post when I made my comment, I would like to know if he has. He still wrote his awful shit and has it on his website.

I fail to see how that makes him anywhere near as bad as some of the other milkshake ducks in this thread. He attended an event that some extremely shitty people also attended.
Theres been a lot of them (Nick Robinson being a recent one) but none of them hit me as hard as Tennapel. I liked the games he worked on growing up but they werent like obsessions, and even though while I heard rumblings about him online as a teen I wasnt socially conscious enough back then to connect the dots. Then in late 2010/early 2011 this dude had a mini resurgence. Earthworm Jim HD came out which got me to replay the originals and the Neverhood. His graphic novel Ghostopolis came out, and he started a webcomic called Ratfist. I got way into discovering and rediscovering his older stuff, bought Ghostopolis, read Ratfist when it updated, even did a few projects about his work while in art school.
And then of course he showed his ass in the ratfist comments section getting into an argument with readers and showcasing his homophobia. In hindsight i think I missed a lot of obvious tells he was a shithead I wouldve picked up on more easily today.

This is me lol, I love the ideas and concepts Lovecraft ended up inspiring, but his work itself is nigh unreadable and honestly I've lost interest.
Like Call of Cthulhu at this point is more of an homage to him than a real adaptation.

Apparently the monkey-professor hybrid fromEarthworm Jim was a recycled hate-doodle of a college professor who told him evolution was real, because, well... it's real. I don't know exactly what a monkey/human hybrid accomplishes towards countering that point, but that character was an early sign, albeit one that wasn't as clear until later.

Don't know about James but Mike Matei is definitely in this camp. The proof is out there already so it's not a matter of if but when will he do something offensive or get called out for his past by someone with a big enough following to put the outrage gears into motion.

Koichi Sugiyama is a big one for me. His music is beautiful and the Dragon Quest VII and VIII Symphonic Suites are among two of my all time favorite game OSTs. I can still listen to his work, unlike my other major milkshake duck -

Hot jam, reading this thread is making me woke as fuck! The older dudes like the WoO and Lovecraft I knew about but damn some of these folks are coming out of left field with the nonsense. Mainly from the YouTubers! Didn't know Yahtzhee was one of those loser so my sub is gone from there. Guess I would have learned about it sooner if I had the time to watch his streams. Plague I already knew, but I just chalk it up to being a hic living in the middle of bumfuck nowhere. I haven't seen anything outrageous yet, but I've been keeping an eye out.
As for Paige that's a new one. I don't watch live streams and I can't be bothered to watch uploads of them so I guess I've just had that nonsense fly right over my head. I just hope it doesn't influence Pat much. He might be a crusty ginger troll, but he's got a good heart even if he doesn't show it well. As for Matt and Woolie I HIGHLY doubt there is some fuckshittery going on there. Or at I at least I hope not. I've been following the zaibatsu since conception and I would hate for them to fall into the Youtube Alt-right wave. Not even the wooliehole can stand up to that shit.

It wasn't a huge shock, but it makes it hard to enjoy rewatching Firefly & Angel.

Anyway: Adam Baldwin's a big one, in that it's made it weird to even talk about Firefly to people. I don't wanna be a huge downer whenever friends talk about it but I don't think I can ever rewatch it, or Chuck etc. knowing he is who he is.
Notch was weird to see but beyond reading his blog regularly back when I played Minecraft, I sorta wrote him off years ago anyway.
More recently, the Nick stuff hits hard. I'm a big McElroy fan and got a few friends into their stuff through Polygon's videos, so they've gotten into Nick too as a result; I've also been binging Podburglars lately. I'd heard some small hints in the past that some women had reasons to dislike him so I feel shitty for not seeing that what he did would be as bad/widespread as this.
Also, surprising no one, GG's currently trying to do what I half-jokingly guessed they might: after demanding people provide chat logs as proof of what Nick did (despite it being overwhelmingly clear at this point that it's true), a prominent member has faked chat logs with someone as some sort of fucked up "gotcha!" proof of concept to show that the chat logs might be faked anyway.

"Good good boys" is, but "soft boys" definitely predates them and is clearly talked about separately even if you just do a quick Google search for it. Yeah, I feel like this is less offensive than say, JonTron, if only because this looks like it came out of a edgy middle-schooler's notebook. JonTron seems to actually believe that black people are responsible for more crime than white people, I don't think Mike thinks anything like that. He's just unfunny.
That being said, he was an adult when he made these and should have known better but 2005 was a different time on the internet. If you dig deep enough, you can milkshake duck most current internet celebrities.

Here's the thing about Pat: There's some pre-Youtube-famous footage of him in college dropping the F-word while playing Third Strike. I remember listening to a podcast or LP where he mentions that video and how it embarrasses him. I think he was tacitly admitting he's a better person since then.
I don't know, I just want to give some hope for some of you who fear he's a milkshake dick in waiting. He's too savvy to be a piece of shit IMO. He's comes off as a very introspective human being from the years I heard him rant about mundane shit and MMOs.
Plague of Gripes, on the other hand, needs to chill with the use of the f-word.
