Your most Disappointing game of 2021

Yes, It's indeed very bland.

IDK if it counts but for me it's Darkest Dungeon II, the friendship system and traveling system kinda on rails is not something I really enjoy and it's mandatory. It's a good game but it's still a dissapointment for me, doesn't seem to me to be a step in the right direction for the franchise.
You bought into an early access title in 2021 on EGS, you deserve to be disappointed.

I've had no real disappointments this year, maybe because I've mostly spent my time with clearing my backlog. I was pleasantly surprised to see remasters of Alan Wake, Super Monkey Ball and Sonic Colours.

Maybe Forza Horizon 5 was a bit of a letdown. It's a great game, but way too similiar to FH4, which I played for years.

I didn't have high expectations, but Deathloop still managed to disappoint me. Several steps backwards from Dishonored quality in every department. The dialogues between Cole and Johanna the only thing I will keep positive memories of.

I honestly just don't get that excited for many games these days, so it's rare I'm disappointed as I have such low expectations..
Cyberpunk while I liked a lot about it, definitely was a let down overall... even though they have mostly fixed it.

I don't get some of the responses here....like Halo and Forza. Truly the worst was the GTA trilogy and Balan Wonderworld. I wanted to like Balan Wonderwork but after that demo I noped out. It was bad. Not sure what happened there. And GTA Trilogy was a rushed, half-assed, cash-grab.

Biomutant, it seems like an incomplete game, something is missing that I can't define ... I played it for 4/5 hours at the most, he couldn't get me involved. I had a lot of expectations, too bad.

What I don't get is people saying Balan or GTA Trilogy. Disappointment means you had high expectations for the game and those weren't met. Did people really have expectations for Balan or the GTA Trilogy?

For me, Forza Horizon 5. I loved 3 & 4 and put many hours into both, but I became bored by 5 quickly. Not a "bad" game per se, but it felt too similar to it's predecessors. I think the map's condensed biomes are too similar to 3 and the people in your ear are more frequent and much more annoying. I'll probably revisit it in the future, when there's been more time between 4 & 5, but for now it left me flat.

Scarlett Nexus was also a game that I looked forward to, but ended up finding almost everything about it tedious.

Well before the demo I was going to pre-order Balan from Amazon, as it looked cool. Once the demo came out then no, no expectations after that. GTA Trilogy should have been good. Just spruce it up a bit, give it better textures, resolution and frame rate. Wasn't asking for a 'remake' but a true 'remaster'. It was unfortunately farmed out to some scrubs who didn't have the skills.......

For GTA Trilogy, the disappointment mostly stems from how bad of a port job of 20+ year old games we got was.

Obviously most of the folks on this forum have already played one or more of the 3 GTA games in one way or another, so it wasn't a case of expecting something new out of it but more of a case of it not even meeting a basic quality standard.

For me the issues with the GTA Trilogy were very obvious since they released the reveal trailer. Did we get any info on the game before that?

For Balan I guess I can understand. To me the game looked bad from the start, but I imagine those that enjoyed Nights or Sonic Adventure might had have higher hopes for it.

Halo infinite (campaign)

This should have been an easy homerun.
Shooting mechanics are great
I love the grapple hook
Masterchief nostalgia bonus.

The story targets kids and not adult players
The open world does nothing for me
No enemy variety
Game feels only 70% finished

Multiplayer
No rewarding progression
Monetarisation hell

I cannot overstate how disappointed I am.The series has the pedigree, the gunplay is there and it just does not click for me.

Fuck all the 10/10 critic scores!

Redeeming quality:
Bought an Xbox Series X for Halo (and Forza)
Bought Gamepass for 2 years although I knew my money would be better spent on Halo/ Forza
Listened to friedly Neogaf user and bought gamepass anyway.
Cannot stop playing the useless gamepass filler and having a blast
What is this "monetisation hell" people keep mentioning?

I honestly didn't even know you could buy costumes until someone pointed it out, I just log on and hit play. And even then, it's just costumes that have zero effect of gameplay.

People need to chill with the monetisation crap, sometimes it's nowhere near as big of an issue as they make out.

Angry Gary Oldman GIF

Except Halo Infinite (multiplayer) and Diablo 2 resurrected.

Probably Gears Of Wars 1... I just played it till last boss for first time and I'm 99% I don't want to beat it, that last boss is just cheap and badly designed, it literally feels like a troll boss or they had not enough time to design it or test it properly. Shit has a instakill almost invisible attack, you only see it when it's 70% unavoidable... Was that shit solely designed to beat in co-op or what? The rest of the game is not like that, it's like they just fired the real designer and let the intern do the job.

Far Cry 6. It felt cheap, buggy, and bloated. Some aspects don't even make sense like the outfit stat system. I also hit a game breaking bug that won't spawn the highest ranked weapons for purchase. A step down from 5 in almost every way possible... Makes me miss OG CryTek.
I haven't finished it, but I would agree with you about the stat system. I'd rather equip the abilities or at least learn them from equipping them and be able to free choose later. The problem with this and the supremo system is that you just end up finding the ones that are the most OP and not using everything else. It almost makes me feel bad for the dev team. I think they also should have had one supremo that you change the mods out instead of having several useless ones.
