Your most hyped game of all time.

It's kinda sad, but Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. Man, I remember the nights where I was lurking FGCGAF as they were speculating how the leaked characters at the time will play.

Probably Half-Life 2 for overall most hyped.

DNF was pretty high on the hype meter after the E3 2001 trailer, but that hype was long dead by the time the game came out.

Prior to HL2 I think most games were out and reviewed well before I noticed them.

Twilight Princess was probably another that I had tons of hype for that I sustained until release. BotW isn't quite the same level (guess I'm just older and less hype prone), but it's definite the game I've been more hyped for than anything else recently. XCX was another recent game I maintained a lot of hype for.

Witcher 2 would also be on the list, though oddly I bought it at release and didn't play it until this year. Go figure.

This piece of crap right there.

MGS4 is also my most disappointing game of all-time. Bought a PS3 for it.

At one point it was FFXV for me. The hype has died down since the E3 re-reveal. A close second would be MGSV.

Oh yeah Versus 13 was one of my most hyped games ever until the messy re-reveal trailer

after that my hype kept slowly dying everytime they showed new things and changes.

Now I don't care if it gets cancelled...

Zero Escape 3 was definitely the big one for me. Largely because we weren't originally supposed to have that game at all.

As well as Ace Attorney 6, coming out in September o____o. Every trailer just hypes me more and more.

Half-Life 2, that E3 tech demo, damn. And for once the game actually delivered.

Also Gothic 3... well let's say I could always play the first two games, so all was not lost.

Super Smash Bros . Melee.

You guys wouldn't believe the insane amount of hype i'd for that game. It was ridiculous; like nothing I've ever feel for another game. And yet, the game, somehow, surpassed all my hype.

Dark Souls - I loved Demon's Souls so much I couldn't wait for this

Super Street Fighter 4 - I still remember the crazy hype feeling I had when Dudley, Ibuki, & Makoto were revealed

Street Fighter X Tekken - no comment...

TES IV Oblivion. I remember getting every magazine that would run an article or preview/feature etc. on it and outright sucking up every information I could get. When it released I was blown away and loved every second of it. I've played through it countless times, and after getting the game originally for the pc, I also bought a GOTY copy for the x360 in 2007 or 2008 I loved it that much haha.

Tough call between Banjo-Kazooie and Jak & Daxter The Precursor's Legacy. I was looking at images and video for both nearly every day. Bought the N64 and PS2 alongside their respective releases. Both delivered and continue to be in my top 5 games of all time.

I was hyped beyond belief. When the intro track was released, I listened to it everyday up to the release. I went on long runs just with that on repeat. I devoured every piece of media about that game. When I played it on release, my hype level was beyond the reality, but in the end, the more and more I got into the game, the more I realized even though it didn't match my expectations, it was and is one of the most fantastic gaming experiences I've ever had. I think it could have done a lot of things better, but it was still perfect.

Super Smash Bros . Melee.

Oh snap I forgot about that. I bought a GameCube for Melee. I had been playing Smash Bros for N64 in my dorm and saw the Melee trailer, and I was instantly sold.

Halo 2. I was so hyped for the game, I got my high schools morning news team to play the Theatrical Trailer that was released for the game and talk about its release date. The next day, they apologized for airing this footage, because a teacher complained that it was too "violent." I'll never forget. Haha.

WoW. I lurked the forums daily for months. During every stress test/beta period I was allowed into, I played nonstop as much as I could.

Game lived up to everything and then some. But I don't know if it would have been nearly as memorable if I hadn't hyped up all my friends with my experiences. The best part about the game was that everyone was playing it. Some of those guys STILL play it...

I remember being really, really excited about Fallout: New Vegas. It lived up to the hype pretty well. Too well, because then I got excited about Fallout 4 out of hopes that Bethesda took so cues from Obsidian and hooooooooooooooo boy

Final Fantasy XV's gotta be up there just because of how long it's been. Fully expecting it to suck, still kind of pumped for it.

Persona 5 also. Every bit of information that comes out about it gets me more excited - especially regarding gameplay being closer to P1 and P2 in terms of dungeons and demon interaction. It's the inverse of XV in a way.

Edit: Forgot about Twilight Princess. I remember pouring over every Nintendo Power interview, watching the trailers again and again, and ultimately being kinda disappointed. Need to get back to the HD version sometime, but it just sort of confirms every issue that I had with the game and more.

Dark Souls - I loved Demon's Souls so much I couldn't wait for this

Super Street Fighter 4 - I still remember the crazy hype feeling I had when Dudley, Ibuki, & Makoto were revealed

Street Fighter X Tekken - no comment...

I remember this one too. Man, what a crushing disappointment. It was basically a crossover of my 2 fav fighters. The way Capcom handled this game grossed me out.

Klonoa 2, probably. I lied on an e3 application so I could get in to e3 2001 and see it. I was super stoked when it was playable.

Grand Prix 3. After the amazingness that was Grand Prix 2 I couldn't fucking wait for the next sequel. Ultimately, it disappointed because the graphics weren't quite as full 3D as I was hoping for.

Mass Effect 3

With how amazingly ME2 ended, my hype levels for the final game in the series were the highest ever. I pre-ordered the PC collector's version with the steelbook, N7 patch, and whatever other useless trinkets. The week before release, I played through ME and ME2 again.I had nothing but the release of the game on my mind at that time. I booked 2 days off work and did almost nothing but play this game. Despite the awful ending, it was still a great journey and I felt satisfied with the series as a whole.

World of Warcraft: nothing even comes remotely close. I was lucky enough to get alpha and beta access. The wait for full release was torturous. I'm not sure any other game will ever surpass it thanks to a mixture of being young with lots of free time and being a game that each and every one of my friends were anxious to play together. The former is long past and the latter just never happens anymore these days for whatever reason.

On a purely personal and bizarre level one of my most hyped games ever was X-Men Legends 2. Let me preface by explaining that my 3rd favorite game of all time is X-men 2 Clone Wars for Genesis and it ignited in me a burning desire for X-men video games at a young age. Not until X-men Legends came out did I find another X-men game that scratched that itch. So since the first one is among my favorite games of all time despite it never catching on with the public, (even though it was a fantastic game) I was absolutely ecstatic to find out they were making a follow up and it turned out even better than the first game.

Ironically went on to be my Most Disappointing Game of All Time as well. Roughly 30 seconds after firing it up.

Oh, the memories.

Of all time? The teenage me would get uncontrollably hyped for each THQ/AKI N64 wrestling game, culminating in me taking a sick day to play No Mercy.

As an adult, whilst I still get 'hyped' its in a far more subdued, patient way. Mass Effect 2 is probably the most excited I have been for a game as an adult.

Final Fantasy VII

I still have my original NES FF1 cartridge. I wasn't a bandwagoner. My hype for the series was genuine.

Diablo III and Oblivion are the next two that come to mind, as they are both sequels to games in my top 5 list probably. Too bad both were terrible (D3 has turned around a bit though).

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time:

I was in 8th grade at the time and Thanksgiving break was lined up right with the release of the game. My friend was coming over for a sleepover the night after it came out. We had been so hyped for over a year for it. It was absolutely incredible to play it all night long. It was amazing.

Also, a very close second was Star Fox 64. The rumble pack and the real voices they used for the characters plus the video that Nintendo Power sent out made the hype for that game monumental.

Halo 2 I remember all the previews talking about being able to peak in rooms to scout out before entering so you could plan out your attack. I remember if halo was an ambulance then halo 2 is an ambulance on fire with ninjas on it and the ninjas are on fire too (or something like that), bought the version with the documentary and steel case. Single player was a disappointment but multi was "so good"

Mass effect 3: I was so hyped for this even bought the deluxe or whatever edition with Javik and steel case, I remember playing through mass effect 2 to get a perfect save and thinking everything would matter lol still one of my favorite games and best horde modes ever

Ac3 having loved ac2 and brotherhood this game was sooo hype! The prerelease cycle made it seem like they had fixed everything, I actually really love this game, Conor is my favorite assassin as well. It did have LOTS of problems though and the stealth was absolute trash also bought the collectors edition for this.

Witcher 3: I've loved Witcher since bloodworth introduced me too it via a review on old gt, game seemed great but no pc made me sad finally came to Xbox then my wife bought m an Xbox and I was able to play through it and loved it, watched the first trailer for Witcher 3 and hype add unreal, went back and played through part 2 again Roche path. Then it finally dropped and can't lie I was a bit disappointed the combat was worse to me than Witcher 2 and there was more of it no more traps , and the main narrative was hurt by its open world nature IMO still a great game though then the 2 expansion came and now I really love it definitely leagues ahead of Witcher 2 and one of my favs this gen

Diablo III.
I almost had a heart attack when Blizzard announced it and when I watched the first gameplay video.

Rock Band, actually.

GH2 blindsided me out of nowhere and I was hooked. Adding drums + vocals to that was hype through the moon.

They announced a delay for Canada and I was heartbroken but then someone who lived in the same city offered to pick me up a copy across the border (as he was going to get himself one) and I was back on the hype train. In a bout of "small world"-ness, we happened to work in the same building/office. I was up until 6 AM watching someone stream guitar/vocal parts playing online with someone (the first time I saw GG&HT I was like 'wat'), crashed for four hours, woke up just in time to get my copy, and then played it for a dozen hours.

God of War 3. No other game comes close. GoW 2's ending was massive blue balls even though it was great in its own right and when GoW3 was announced for the PS3 which I didn't even have. holy shit, I flipped my shit. And the game ended up being THE shit.
I remember watching a 24 hour stream where the guy was gonna stop after finishing God of War 1 and 2 and he ended up prolonging the stream to marathon God of War 3, he couldn't even wait a day.

Man, this whole series is epicness defined.

God of War 3 will probably remain my most hyped game until the day I die.

This is a great post because I feel exactly the same way.
The cliff hanger GoW 2 ending really had my hype in overdrive.

I remember when the GAME store chick wouldn't sell me the game on launch day because I din't have my ID to prove I was above 18, nearly lost my shit haha!

And the game delivered, huzzah!
Memorable shoutout to GTA IV, I poured over every bit of media leading to release.

Skyrim for me, was insanely hyped for that...

I will say No Man's Sky is right up there though for me, might even be #1 by the time it releases.

Probably Super Mario 64. When it finally got to be one month away, I did up a homemade advent calendar where I'd rip off a sheet every morning when I got out of bed. I never did anything like that for any other game.

Honorable mentions:

FFVII, FFVIII
MGS1
Halo 2
Xenosaga 1
GTA V
EDIT: omg, how could I forget Ocarina of Time???

I remember being so excited for Tekken 3 back in the day.

More recently it would have to be Destiny. Hype was through the roof for the epic space opera Bungie promised. Destiny ended up being the most disappointing game of all time for me though
