Your most hyped game of all time.

Metal Gear Solid 2

I remember being dumbfounded by that trailer, which took me a whole day to download on a 56k modem. Bought ZoE for the demo and loved it. I initially hated the twist but have come to appreciate it over time.

i was so ready for this to come out
Man, this was the game to finally open my eyes to the extreme smoke and mirrors some developers/publishers would use in selling you on a game that doesn't really exist. It was easily one of my most anticipated games for years, only to discover it was a whole lot of bullshit. The game they ended up putting out for PC beta fell so insanely short of what they had been showing in trailers all that time leading up to it. Then it was promptly "discontinued" with no real explanation of what happened.

HAH, the website is still up

Mine is No Man's Sky. Never been more hyped than I am right now for next month. and I even have my expectations firmly in check, only expecting what's been confirmed so far.

I don't normally get hyped for games too much, so this is unusual for me.

Final Fantasy 7, largely based on my love of Final Fantasy 3/6. The latter was my dream game for that era, so when "FF4" was announced for the Playstation, I jumped ship from Nintendo to Sony and put in a pre-order at EB Games more than a year in advance. I placed my pre-order ticket in a small bank safe and I swear I took it out to look at it every few days.

When FF7 finally released, I played it for damn near 30 hours straight. Nearly killed the Playstation. It was worth it though.

Let's see:

- Perfect Dark
- Resident Evil 4
- F-Zero GX
- Metroid Prime
- Zelda Twilight Princess
- Star Fox Adventures & Assault
- Star Wars Rogue Squadron II & III
- Super Smash Bros. Melee & Brawl
- Super Mario Sunshine & Galaxy
- Soul Calibur 2
- New Super Mario Bros.
- Starcraft 2
- Duke Nukem Forever
- Kingdom Hearts
- Final Fantasy X
- Metal Gear Solid 2, 3 & 4
- Satellite Reign
- Street Fighter IV

Mass effect 3. Mass effect 2 on ps3 was where I got my start on the ME series and it blew me away. I was reading and awaiting any bits of news on ME3. ME3 single player plus MP really delivered for me, the ending didn't sour me at all.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII/Final fantasy XV
Cyberpunk 2077

I'm pretty sure that I'm going to be very disappointed with the former. I can't say anything about the latter, because I don't know anything beyond the concept, but right now Cdproyekt is alongside Naughty Dog a company which I'd give my money blindly.

MGS3. I finally had broadband to hound after every detail. The hype train rode for years. And at the end, the game was even better than I could have imagined. I think I convinced my dad to get it for me - he usually stuck to used games for his occasional gifts, but he must have noticed something that inclined him towards being generous. I played the whole thing in one epic 16 hour sitting, a record I'll never beat.

I wanted Kingdom Hearts II BADLY.

In fact, I think it was the first time I'd ever even actively paid attention to the release date of a game.

Before that it was mostly a vague knowing of what was coming from gaming magazines and being pleasantly surprised when checking out the electronics sections on family shopping trips.

I don't think anything surpassed Mario 2, 3, or World. Maybe the SNES or N64 wait/launches. I just remember the waits for those being painful.

I was ridiculously hyped for GTAV. .. Just through the roof levels of hype. Hadn't been that hyped for a game since something from ages ago.

Was really hyped for GTAIV, RDR, GTAV, but some of the oldest games I really remember being hyped for:

1) NBA Live '96 for PC
2) Madden NFL 2001 for PS2
3) Fighting Force for PSX
4) Road Rash 3D for PSX
5) WWF WarZone for PSX
6) WWF Attitude for PSX

Road Rash 3D and Fighting Force didn't meat the hype, especially Fighting Force which was one of the first games that truly disappointed me. I loved WarZone and Attitude when they came out, but in retrospect they were both pretty bad, but I still had a lot of fun playing them.

Prior to those games listed above I just didn't really get hyped for a lot of games because I didn't know as much of what was coming out.

Oblivion. The crazy generational leap in games tech alone was enough to make any self respecting gamer froth long and thick, but this was the Scrolls game after fucking Morrowind, which is in my top 2 or 3 at least. Hype is a cute way to put it. It made 360 over PS3 a no brainier after a decade with Sony consoles.

Half-Life 2. Not even a contest.

On a lesser scale, Skyrim. I loved Oblivion and Fallout 3/NV so Skyrim was highly anticipated by me. Ironically that was the game that started my now constant disappointment with Bethesda Game Studios.

Currently, Persona 5 and Mass Effect Andromeda, although it's more of a cautious optimism for the latter.

Hmm I don't know. MGS2 would be up there, didn't live up to my hype. Every GTA since 3 could also qualify, some lived up, some didn't. Baldur's Gate 2 might be my real pick, and that definitely lived up to my hype.

Twilight Princess, and now Breath of the Wild. If Link had been a girl, it would have been my most hyped game of eternity

Had to be Metroid Prime. Man, I was giddy as a school girl anytime a new video was released. I think I cried at certain points too.

Probably Kingdom Hearts. I watched the trailers every single day and even think I had a demo maybe? Bought it day 1, stayed up way past my bed time and beat it as quickly as possible. Then I tried to beat it again. Even have the OST.

Metal Gear Solid V, Metroid Prime 2, and Metroid Other M were among my most hyped games of all time. I only regret the hype of Other M.

Banjo-kazooie

I got home from a family summer vacation to a 20 min vhs of this game in my mailbox, as well as a gamepro giving it perfect scores. I had never been so hyped, it was the longest month wait that I can remember. Definantly was worth the hype.

MGS4. Almost 4 years of following every little detail about the game's development, posting on MGS message boards, analyzing trailers and listening to those Hidechan podcasts every week. I still remember the day that first MGS4 artwork was put online that showed a Shinkawa-drawn lineup of the game's characters (with Raiden holding a baby!) over a blue background.

I lost my shit reading the early stuff on Project Ego (most of which Fable didn't deliver tho I enjoyed it nonetheless).

Halo 2. Especially after I saw the E3 2003 Demo at my local EB games for the first time in 2004. While the campaign never met my hype fully it kept me entertained for years and November 9, 2004 is a day I will never forget.

Nov. 2004 was the most hype month of all time:

Halo 2 -- 11.9.04

12 years later and at least 3 of us in this thread remember the release date for Halo 2. That game's hype really was unreal, nothing quite like it since.

Any Halo main line release, it's like a sustained event for months. Halo 2 started it all after the experience of CE.

Go to Aussie show event, soak up all marketing/news, annoy HaloGAF, buy some merch, go to midnight launch with buddies, have a launch LAN party and basically over hype up the whole thing imagining various possibilities. You could say Japanese school girl levels of gossip and excitement.

Halo is the only game franchise I'm so into for this type of hype. I love other games or platforms just as much but don't fan-out over them like Halo.

Probably shining force 3 - i think it was the reason i bought a sega saturn. There was one screen shot in the back of an egm magazine on the imports page under "upcoming releases" or whatever. I remember checking every month just for a new screenshot that would get printed and yet it was always one of three iirc. Anyways, there was never anything else printed in the mag ever which just kept me on the hook fiending for the tiniest drop of info. I feel like i was checking for 3 years since the first screenshot. .. Anyways now i know that the game went through hell getting localized etc. so thats the reasonig. Thank god it was released at the end of the life cycle or i dont know what i would have done. still sad i never got to play scenario 2/3. One day ill just buy the import.

diablo 3 (just barely over diablo 2) would be the other most hyped game for me... The years of delays after the oh so amazing d2... Just couldnt take it. I was so sad after it released ;___;

Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was nine when the first trailer came out and it blew my mind. I visited the dojo daily and spent basically an entire year speculating on every single detail revealed about the game.

Smash 4 comes in at a close second.

Zelda Ocarina of Time - I combed over every scrap of info for this game - at that time from piles and piles of gaming magazines (which I still own). The game delivered at the time (somewhat due to my then Nintendo fanboyism), but its lost its luster since. Not timeless like I originally thought and nowhere close to as good as the original NES Zelda.

Team Fortress 2 - I waited nearly a decade for this game. I played Team Fortress Classic regularly during that wait. From TF2's original militaristic reveal to its big cartoony shift in style years after. In the end it was the biggest disappointment of my gaming life. Paled in comparison to Team Fortress Classic. The definition of dumbing down for the masses and ive pretty much hated Valve ever since.

Getting mega hyped usually backfires in my case. I think overall the Halo series has generally matched my hype for them but even that series had its ups and downs.

MGS4, the (numbered) follow up to my favorite game of all-time, and was going to be the stories end, I was so hyped throughout the games marketing, watching and reading everything about it, that it put me off getting really hyped for anything ever again, although I still really liked MGS4, it just end up disappointing if you get too hyped for a game.

Though Kojima still got me pretty good with MGS5 too, those pre-release trailers were too damn good for me not to get a little bit hyped, that also disappointed though

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Back in 2004, I first recieved news of its announcement through a magazine as I didn't have broadband yet and there was only one computer in my house, so my Internet time was restricted. But as soon as I entered hype mode, I remember being willing to pass hours waiting for the E3 2004 and the E3 2005 trailers to buffer. And when the information droughts came in between those events, I was checking daily info in the various Zelda fanpages.

The thirst was real.

Metal Gear Solid IV Guns of the Patriots

Also my biggest disappointment. At least it taught me to never be so much hyped for a game ever again.

I latch on to 1 game every year.

2011 - Dc Universe Online
2012 - Playstation All Stars
2013 - GTA V
2014 - Smash 3DS
2015 - Mortal Kombat X
2016 - nothing
2017 - Injustice II

Of those, I was most hyped for Smash. Yeah definitly Smash. I love fighting game roster speculation unreasonably.

Of all time? Probably Red Dead Redemption and Yakuza 2.

I remember being so hyped about Hitman Blood Money, NBA Street Volume 2 and Max Payne 2.

Those are some games that I'll never forget being so hyped about!

Original Spyro takes the top spot. I left out specific instructions for Santa so I would instantly know if I got it for Christmas. It lived up to the hype, even if some of the rumours floating around were lies.

I also fell hook, line and sinker for MGS2. Entire MGS series really. Educational sacrifices were made for 4. MGS2 has been a ride over the past decade and a half, but in the end was worth it. 4... I regret nothing in retrospect.
