It's not a question of the right to discuss two sides to every argument, it's a question of a one sided argument being undermined by hooting dickholes and people dying because they don't know how to handle algorithms.

YouTube shutting up anti-vax is to freedom of speech as drain cleaner is to a clogged toilet. Once you clear out the congealed turd, it'll work like magic.

Now if YouTube and Facebook start banning criticism of governments or something then yeah the free speech argument needs to happen. But this is not that. It's not even close.
We already have an example of how this will not work, when they introduced filters to block illegal content like child pornography and within a year those governments blocked way more than that. And it was all democratic countries.

Public health officials.
So masks were not recommended at the beginning of the pandemic, everybody who would recommend them would have been banned? School closings work differently in different countries, so people who want schools closed must be banned because health officials and the United Nations say it hurts kids in their education.

What about masks? Experts say that they only help in very specific cases and for kids under 12 they are not helpful at all. How would you moderate that discurse?

Funny how this never comes out when the gubment called for vax mandates on publicly traded pRiVaTe cOrPoRaTiOnS.

Kind of like the "my body my choice" flippy floppies now as well. Just a little perspectives.

Oh...oh you mean like when Twitter and Facebook banned the NY Post last year in the run up to the election because it had an article about the Hunter Biden emails? Even though the article explained where the info came from and was later confirmed by the Senate committee that they received the same files from the same source? And that Twitter even started blocking users who were posting screen grabs of the emails and the article?

what's it about? indulge us on what goes on inside that pea brain of yours
Oooh shit instant ad hominem attack. Love it! You'll go far in life! Well... at least on the internet.

Anyway I too welcome our factcheck overlords. I hope I can one day live in a future where Colbert's "Vax-Scene" tune is on repeat everywhere and where every announcement, every piece of information by government or media, is unchallenged and unquestioned. Imagine if people had the gall to think for themselves or had bodily autonomy, privacy, etc. The nerve of these dumb cunts!

In the words of the great Arnold Schwarzenegger: "Screw your freedom!!". Hell yeah brotha!

(also that's me out of this thread, make sure to really rip me a new one on the way out because that's always a sure way of winning people over to your side)

It's only okay when we do it, comrade. Gets the ditch ready.

Don't worry China, Ukraine and Russia, etc, buy my laundered artwork pay for play. We'll give you a direct line to the top CoS General, while we leave people behind and give you a very strategic airfield. Hope you hang it above your mantle!

That's a great idea until you realize that these people are too damn stupid to realize what they are seeing is a "bad idea" as you put it therefore they do not seek out the "good ideas" to counter them. They just go out and repeat the same stupidity. That in turn pollutes the mind of other people and begins a domino effect of dumb. Platforms can and should get rid of this kind of content. It has no merit and only serves to convince idiots to harm themselves and others. The anti-vax nonsense this past year has done and continues to do untold damage to the world in terms of human suffering and financial cost.

That's a pretty dismal view of humanity!

Being real though, not everyone can be "saved". Its an impossible proposition. Instead the best option is to try and serve the needs and interests of the majority, and for me preservation of freedom of speech in all dimensions is a far more important struggle than defeating "bad ideas".

I must stress I'm not supportive of anti-vax rhetoric, but we're on a very slippery slope here societally.

The same ones who keep flip flopping on the best way to combat this? The same ones who signed off in multiple states on sending sick people into nursing homes? Fuck the public health officials.
Who would you rather listen to?

Well, experts giving out information and let people decide seemed to have worked for the longest time. You know that Democracy thing.

You know it even worked during the Spanish flu.
Banning dangerous nonsense from YouTube is not an assault on Democracy.

The dramatics in this thread is something else.

I don't blame google for doing this - it's a lack of faith on the intelligence for most of the population. Not exactly the wrong thinking - it's why IQ tests exist to separate the people who are geniuses, average, and below.

Genius people who don't get vaccinated can have legitimate reasons/points. However, the issue is that if you're average or below, you should probably choose the path that benefits most people/society. Most people who say they need to research don't actually do "research" and rely on talking heads on youtube. Anti vax is dangerous to society and unfortunately average people are increasingly trending towards being contrarians/rebellious/ "stick it to the man" type and are especially susceptible to anti vax people on youtube.

It's a tricky line to tiptoe. At what point does a "discussion" turn into misinformation propaganda meant to deceive people into false logic. Thrown in human bias, human error and all the other human variabilities and I have no idea how the metrics would be determined.

All I can say is morganfreemangoodluck.gif
I believe in God. Therefore atheism is misinformation because it teaches there is no evidence of God’s existence.

Can we ban all atheists from YouTube now?

we were able to do this, but since people get offended by every opinion which is not their own, it changed.

console wars used to be way more vicious 10 or 20 years ago.

NI, this is why the politics forum was banned. You called everyone who against this vaccination or in my case against ME getting vaccinated with this vaccination idiots.

Vaccinated people are only at risk to themselves. So who the fuck cares if they get sick or not? Children are at virtually no risk of dying from it so again who else is left that’s still involuntarily at risk??

NeoGAF doesn't have a monopoly on gaming discussion. Where are Google and YouTubes competitors?

That's too freakin bad dude. It sucks that YouTube is the most popular video hosting platform. I guess you want more laws telling businesses what they can and can't do? hmm...

Btw people are spending more time watching TiKTok these days.

You're showing your ignorance here. These huge tech companies aren't some little mom and pop shop, they have crazy amounts of power, no competition and if competition shows up they just buy or kill them.

I wonder what will be banned next.

btw. do we ban everybody who is arguing against diets and a healthy lifestyle. 78% of all covid deaths in the US can be linked to obesity. So do we ban all fat people, because obesity kills more people than antivax and corona combined?

The false equivalencies in this thread are just nuts.

You guys need to take it down several notches and realize that banning nutjobs and grifters pushing actual lies and harmful misinformation from YouTube is not the death of free speech and it is certainly not comparable to banning "fat people and atheists".

I'm a monoclonal antibodies treatment proponent. You know, the thing that was politically attacked last year (as well as all this year prior to Pfizer's FDA stamp) and FDA approved last December (did you you know that? Majority did not), but not talked about because these officials all have stock in Pfizer and the like, and did not even mention Regeneron "was good stuff and works as a great alternative" until a week after Pfizer get's it's temporary FDA emergency use stamp and their portfolios all skyrocketed.

But we are supposed to believe they care about us, for the greater good.

So only anti-vax and of course certain political views are getting banned, it will stop there and not go any further.
