Zelda 3DS: LttP, OoT, or Wind Waker style?

I want top down 2D art. It will be third person 3D though

I don't want to see a realistic approach on Zelda 3DS because the hardware isn't good enough.

I'd prefer a cel-shaded approach with this art-style:

And please, no silly gimmicks this time.

Focus on creating an awesome overworld, interesting NPCs and dungeons.

I really dont find this old anime style appealing for a Zelda game

Did you even read my post? I said "since Majora's Mask". After Ocarina of Time.

Yup, I read your post and saw that you said "since Majora's Mask". I also saw that you included it in your list of games. It's my fault for including it in the discussion, whatever. Why did you wait until after I had explained why I think those games don't have a style unique to them to bring it up? You also completely ignored my reasoning for Four Swords Adventure.

Aaaand we are done, would be so amazing getting this style cel-shaded.

I don't care about the character/enemy/NPC design (within reason), but try to bring it back to what it was...fun, without pointing or motion control shoved in. Build the game to build the game, don't build the game to promote a way to play.

This is what every Zelda fan from the 80s would die to have since its appearance (on Zelda II manual if I'm not wrong?). Trousers-less Link is also much more bad-ass.

A lot of people begging for rehashes -- I won't lie, I'm guilty of it too, at times.

What would it take for a new 3DS Zelda game to make you say "wow"? I genuinely don't know, but that's what I want.

Since the eventuality of a Zelda 3DS title is certain, I wanted to get the GAF consensus as to which style everyone would like to see Nintendo implement?

1.) Link to the Past/Four Swords (2D sprites)
2.) Ocarina of Time/MM/Twilight Princess/SS ("realistic"3D)
3.) Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks (cel shaded 2D/3D)
.

What. SS is cel shaded.

Im open for all. But no more PH and ST Zeldas pls.

If it has 3D graphics similar to OOT yet with it's unique story and gameplay to get me hyped, it will be a glorious day tto own a 3DS.

As much as they use the WW style for handheld games, it would be nice to see it on a system that can do it justice for a change.

I thought it was much better. Fixed the problem with the central dungeon idea and other dungeons are much much better. Puzzles that actually challenge.

The train is mixed. I liked it but others hate it.

Basically go in with a clear mind. If you think of it as another phantom hourglass you'll just dampen your expectations of it.

It has better gameplay than PH. In fact, it's a really good game for the most part.

It's too bad the bad part is game breakingly bad. The train rides are just so horrible.

Thanks for the responses. I'm definitely still going to pick it up at some point, but the one friend I know that has played it told me not to bother, ever, so just wanted to hear some other opinions since he's pretty jaded.

On topic, I'd definitely prefer something bright and colorful like TMC and preferably overhead as well. If they could combine the presentation of TMC with the exploration and level design of LTTP they'd have an amazing end result.

In terms of multiplayer, I wouldn't mind something like Four Swords, but I wouldn't want it to be the primary focus or anything. Kind of like Scarescraper in Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon: really fun, but separate from the main game. They really should have tested the waters by making the DSiWare Four Swords with online multiplayer though. Wasted opportunity.

Something unique like Majora's Mask was to the series.

I would like to see something like this on 3DS. In 3D but with an isometric, fixed camera.

Maybe a bit less chibi.
Think a mix between Wind Waker's cell shaded style in pastel colors, but with hand drawn lineart and paintwork like in TT's Walking Dead game.

Wii U version would sport a much more detailed version of this style, with a slightly different flavour

But a bit less dark seriousbizness

3D LttP style would be my preferred game. The handheld Zelda's have gone a long way in making me disinterested in the series.

Yes. Mother-flipping this.

If we're going old-school, this kind of old-school please. Thanks.

This reminds me of Yoshida's art. I would take a Zelda drawn by him without a doubt.

No more Toon Link, please. The terrible DS games have made me hate him and the WW style.
I enjoyed both of the DS games to a certain extent (ST in particular had great dungeons) but they never really pull off the art style.

I visually I hope they go for something like SS. I thought they hit a nice middle ground between WW and TP.

In terms of gameplay, they should go shamelessly classic. By that I mean a no nonsense continuous 3/4 view conventional overworld, with a look something like Animal Crossing. The last game in this style was Minish Cap. I'd say they're due for another. I can wait for the next console installment for them to hit with greater innovation.

I don't care if it's hand drawn 2D or polygons.

I want top down LttP/Links Awakening style gameplay.

And I want to use buttons primarily, not the touchscreen.

I personally think it's gonna be a top-down game with some kind of cartoony style, whether that resemble Wind Waker or something new.

Top-down makes the most sense since the 3DS only has one analog stick (OOT was designed for one stick but we're past that in modern Zelda games). Most 3DS sequels have also moved from 2D sprites to full 3D models. Even the DS Zelda games were top-down with everything in 3D.

I may be alone in this idea, but I'd prefer a 3d isometric view with the more 2d style gameplay.

It could very well be, if Mario 3D Land is anything to go by.

Why is SS being lumped in the realistic look? It's not WW but it's not TP either, bur something entirely on its own. I think that's what they should go for. Can't imagine what the blur effect in 3D would look like.

I don't know if we're past it yet. Wasn't Wind Waker the only Zelda game that allowed you full camera control via the second analog stick? I haven't played the GC version of Twilight Princess but I remember hearing it had a limited range of movement.

wow, I think I'm the only one here who doesn't want another top down view Zelda game :|

as for style, I don't care, surprise me!

I'm really tired of the Wind Waker look. It was great in WW and neat in PH but by the time ST came around I was sick of it.

Surprise me with something new.

Eiji Aonuma pretty much implied that the next handheld Zelda game's art style wouldn't be like Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. If he's making it an original title and not a direct sequel/prequel to those titles, then he'll most likely go with a different art style. In addition, with Wind Waker getting a remake on Wii U, that provides all the more reason to ditch the Wind Waker art style for the 3DS Zelda title in my opinion.

I say go with a brand new art style with an isometric perspective. Sadly, it will be in 3D and not 2D. On the bright side, 3DS is at least more capable of pushing polygons than DS was. Please some up with something cool, Aonuma.
