Zelda: Skyward Sword @ GDC New Trailer

Sword swinging to open a lock.
Enemies requiring vertical and horizontal slice.
Some crazy WSR sword mini-game.

Balancing wire fight with the wiimote.
Flying the beetle with the wiimote.
Fighting enemies with different shield configs and choppable shields.
Rotating block puzzles for door locks.
Some nice Stalfos combat.
Weird effeminate villain.
Excellent and original looking boss.

All the bolded is essentially the exact same thing; swing the sword in any direction thanks to M+. Its nothing new and its everything expected.

The way he/she vanished really looks like the way Twili/Zant/Midna vanished in Twilight Princess. Also, perhaps there's a race of beings who become the "swords" Link uses down the line, as somebody showed this new NPC resembles one of the blades from Majora's Mask. Something also sticking in the back of my mind is how the Minish helped "create" many of the "items" Hylians used, and Fujibayashi was a leading figure in The Minish Cap and now is in charge of Skyward Sword. Maybe the Minish/Picori have a role in this game.
I believe at E3 last year it was stated that this game would be the origin story of the Master Sword and that the girl was the master sword. So your theory could be correct.

People are complaining that the colors are too washed out? I thought people absolutely loved the Twilight Realm in TP?

Yeah, it's not great. Better than the previous one, but still kinda sucky.

The anniversary logo, however, is pretty badass.
Outer glow + gradients = cringe.

The font face is bad enough.

I don't understand some of the music complaints. What was bad about it?

Nothing was really bad about it... it just wasn't very good. Even Spirit Tracks had an AMAZING theme that everyone would hum along to. I cannot hum along to this. :(

it's really interesting that this new character has the design of the Guilded Sword. more sword characters will make the mythos a hell of a lot more interesting. and I actually like his design. it's rather interesting. I hope to god there is no Ganon or Zelda though. they ruined Zant at the end and just threw in Ganon for shits and giggles

Bingo.

First view I was struck at how dense the trailer was in terms of showing gameplay elements.

There was no filler. Perhaps they were trying to cater to the developer audience in showcasing what they've done with Wiimotion plus?

That's precisely what I thought they were doing too.

I'm really hyped for this. So many new gameplay concepts are shown in the trailer. It confirms how much potential and newness this Zelda will have. Can't wait for the awesome new type of puzzles, dungeon designs and creative items.

So... on one side you have people saying the game looks awesome and promising, and on the other side, you have people saying this is the worst looking Zelda ever, even worst than Zelda OOT on 3DS, and lost all hope in the game being good. All of this by judging a low quality video of a trailer showing only a small part of the game.

GAF is more entertaining than the whole keynote was.

This was an okay trailer, sort of a mid-case (be happy we got a trailer) and yes they really need to show other things than "Swing the sword in different directions". I suspect we've only gotten gameplay bits so far because they are so proud about the gameplay. From what I've understood, with TP they were focusing a lot on the feel of the story, so we got moody, cutscene-heavy trailers for that game. With SS it's more of a "We love our gameplay programmers" thing.

Really diggin' the music. I get a strong Valkyria Chronicles vibe from it.

My speculation on the shield meter: The shield has a secret power, to be revealed at E3, and this ties heavily into combat.

And if you feel that the games' graphics are too washed out, just turn up the color on your TV. I'll probably do it myself if I feel I need to come launch.

Just because it's expected does not mean it's not new.

Zelda is confirmed to be in the game.

The reactions in this thread are interesting to say the least.

God, I would give anything to have been around when WW was revealed.

No new screens of Skyward Sword were released but check out this new image of Ocarina:

Looks really good.

Are you mad? This is the Wii's 2011 game.

The only Wii game.

We have a thread for Ocarina 3D already, and the screens are being spammed in every single GDC thread available. :/

Hey, at least PC games aren't trying to emulate console gam--- oh, wait. :P

Hey, I already made that joke, don't be such a copycat!

Of course she's confirmed, it's the Legend of Zelda, what are you talking about?

I'm really excited about the increasing complexity of the interface.

WM+ is obviously the biggest addition, but we've already seen a ton of new gameplay elements (dash meter, shield meter, the return of the sword beams, etc.) There's clearly going to be a lot more depth to it, which is awesome.

Thanx, will watch

edit: Goddamn, don't waste this game (gem) on the Wii Nintendo. Make it HD, please do it.
Zelda deserves it. Soccer moms don't give a damn about zelda. Why wasn't the Wii HD anounced?

I'm with this person.

Uuh, yeah, except I haven't played any compelling sword fighting game with the Wiimotion+ before (and yes, I did play RS2). Could you kindly show me this game? It really isn't that expected at all.

It still falls back on the single "swing your sword in different directions" mechanic that is, fundamentally, the exact same thing no matter whether you're using it to undo a lock, attack an enemy's weak point, or break their shield. Its good, but it's the same core mechanic only slightly changed in presentation.

I, personally, want to know more about other game mechanics that will make up this package.

Red Steel 2 was that game even if you didn't like it. I'm not dissing the use of M+. I'm knocking the almost exclusive focus on the exact same mechanic used over and over again with little to no changes.

Neither "ugly" nor "gimmicky" is how I'd really describe Skyward Sword from what I've seen. It looks good in terms of art, and the gameplay ideas look more like full-blown ideas implemented in the game rather than tacked-on "gimmicks."

But, we've only been shown so much.

This was simply a combat trailer and nothing else. Besides, the Japanese team whipped this together whereas NoA made the Twilight Princess one(s?).

The most important thing about WM+ controls is that not only boss battles but general combat will be challenging.

ANyone else notice that they don't show the overworld much at all? And only in the desert shot do you actually see the sky... which is ironic for a game called Skyward Sword.

Motion gaming is far from gimmicky... The gameplay looks like it actually has some depth to it.

Fucking hell every single post from you i've seen has been a variation of this.

Seriously, i have a hard time remembering most posters so you know its bad when i can guess what you'll say just by looking at your avatar/name

People seemed to be confused because the trailer was almost entirely actual game play, with almost nothing related to the story or setting.

I'm pretty sure that NOA is responsible for all of Nintendo's trailers, period.

The game doesn't take place entirely in Skyloft.
