yeah, definitely a letdown. the focus on the motion plus stuff is puzzling at this point. we get it, you can swing your sword in any possible direction. now show us something else. it certainly wasn't an exciting trailer and that's what trailers are all about: hyping up your product. the music was boring, the visual style half-baked and the game just kind of ugly overall. what else is NEW in this zelda, what's really groundbreaking, what has never been there before, how is this world different and interesting now, what's exciting about it? i really can't tell from this trailer. at all.

Well, new ideas. That was what zelda needed, or so I thought. We had countless threads about it.
Now they show you some and we're still complaining. Now we want a cinematic trailer !
Yes you swing your sword and shit, but we see now how it is actually executed. No more sword bumping against enemy shield but actually cutting through it? That's new, i think, for example.
There is some new gameplay mechanics in this trailer, that is what I wanted to see in a new zelda game. Actually that's the first time I'm interested in skyward sword.

But I agree we don't know shit about the world and story, that's a shame, but I guess this wasn't the point today considering the rest of the keynote. E3 is where it's at.

Yep.

Honestly what is wrong with everyone. Next thing you know people will say this looks worse than the CDi games. (Oh look someone just did)

Then when the next Zelda game is shown they will say the same thing about it.

We need a tiny smidge of a hint as to what's going on. Maybe that new character is the spirit of the Skyward Sword.
I do want a little more idea of characters, setting and story but they have revealled a couple things already. They already stated that the girl is the Master Sword. They stated this game takes place before OoT. Link lives in Skyloft which is in the sky and discovers a world beneath the clouds. This also would be the origin story of the Master Sword.

Not sure if it's been discussed yet but, see the icon on the bottom right? Underneath the harp? Looks familiar?

Midna was mapped to the top D-pad direction. Seems like SS girl will be doing the same just placed at the bottom one instead.

I must be the only one who really loves the "washed-out" cel-shading look. Reminds me of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne.

Yeah good post. I'm surprised that everyone has another definition for new. I definitely see this as more new than lets say Majora's Mask or Wind Waker. It has completely new game play mechanics never done in any other game before.

I agree with what you both said.

And I love the washed-out watercolor cel-shade style.

I'm sure the story, atmosphere, and polish will be there like any Zelda game. Just wish I could have seen a bit more.

Ugh I want a release date already! Haha.

I don't know if I even like it yet but it sure is better than having it look like the other Zeldas.

We've been on a complete media blackout since E3 and when we finally get something new, it's just more of the same "watch Link move his sword around" stuff. Naturally people are going to be frustrated.

It's a gameplay trailer at GDC (not the blow your socks off trailer show) that shows the M+ being used for puzzles and different types of combat aka they are integrating it to the core gameplay to give us new experiences instead of tacking it on like TP. That's what I liked about it, showing new gameplay experiences.

Instead people want meaningless story trailers to pull your emotional strings?

The weird thing about Skyward Sword is it looks pretty washed out and dull in the trailers..

...yet the off screen gameplay footage at E3/Gamescom looks really bright and vibrant.

I'm sure Nintendo is going to release a great game, but that just looks so bad to me. The combat design seems cool but it just looks like it doesn't execute correctly.

i was expecting a totally new art style, and after seeing that zelda art thread, my expectations were pretty high
a new artstyle compared to what we've allready seen at E3?.. why wpuld they change that?

not to me. Unless they changed her appearance in the game compared to the art.

It's from a different angle and (old) concept art rarely is 100% like the characters look in-game.

I must say..graphically it looks disappointing. Twilight Princess looks significantly better and that was created on GameCube hardware.

You thought they were going to change the art style again? They already did once when they ditched the TP style they originally started with to go with the current style.

This trailer not being over hyped can only mean that this game will be good now unlike Twilight Princess which was over hyped to death and ended up being disappointing.

This has been a speed-crazy dream-extravaganza episode of Crazy Zelda Fans TV!

Is it me or does this game look bad?

You said this about OOT 3DS too. It looks bad to you maybe, but to others (like myself), it looks pretty damn good. Unless you're simply trolling both threads.

Come on man, that was pointed out on page 1 (100ppp).

However if this theory does hold any weight it would be interesting if this game delves into the connection between Hyrule and Termina.

Yeah, the hyperbole rollercoaster is pretty annoying, on both sides.
