"Racism is as American as Baseball" -

BOSTON -- A few fans seated above the Green Monster dropped down a sign that read "Racism is as American as baseball" during the fourth inning of the Red Sox's game against Oakland at Fenway Park on Wednesday night.

The sign was draped over the top middle of the Monster had a black background with white letters.

It was up for about one batter. There was a spattering of boos from the crowd as Red Sox security forced them to remove it and escorted the people from their seats.

Umpire Joe West and police were seen on the field discussing what happened.

yesh, not really sure of their message

MOD EDIT:
One of the four individuals involved told Red Sox security they were inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement.

Also, regarding the sign, one of the people ejected said the group was inspired by Black Lives Matter. At this point, that is all we have.

I can't tell which direction this was intended from. Is it "stop kidding yourself, trump isn't a fluke," or "let's stop pretending we think racism is wrong?"

Baseball has only been big for like 150 years, racism in America is more than 500 years old, therefore Racism is more American than Baseball

Still a weird message to send though

Baseball is a relatively modern invention. Racism has been baked into the United States from the moment white people first stepped foot on the continent.

So in a way, racism is more American than baseball.

They're correct.

Whether or not these people are allies or racists themselves feels impossible to decipher until you realize that almost no racist ever actually considers himself a racist.

"Some white people at a baseball game" isn't the demographic I'd usually expect an anti-racist protest from.

It's exactly where you should protest, though. They're the ones who need to be made uncomfortable. Another reason I think these people might've had good intentions.

I think by saying the word racism, it's anti-racism. If it were pro-racism, it'd likely say something else celebrating whites. Though I could be wrong.

They're right, lol

Next time make a giant hanging banner that leaves no room for misinterpretation, though

a lot of my threads involve me fucking up somehow. Perhaps I'm a moron?
The ambiguity leads me to believe this is them trying to get both sides worked up to turn this into a money maker for them.

Are you serious?

Pretty sure it's anti racism. Not a single racist enjoys identifying as racist or being called racist.

This is blatantly obvious. Only GAF would see this as some pro racist message or even question it.

that hot ambiguous racism dollar

it's clearly a protest banner designed to make people uncomfortable with the reality as stated.

As a general rule, racists will fight to the death claiming they aren't racist, as they burn a cross in somebody's yard. This is not a message that would come from a racist.

Fucking KKK members will deny their own racism.

For everyone asking "How is this ambiguous" -- the big thing white supremacists are doing now is trying to appeal directly to the "Everyone is a little racist sometimes" white people crowd. They're basically saying "Everyone is racist so you might as well embrace it."

That's why it's unclear whether this banner (being held by three white people) is an embrace of racism or a statement about America's troubled history with racism.

I actually almost said this too, but I decided doing it in the fourth inning at a baseball game suggests that they like baseball. Otherwise I would definitely have done it during the second inning so that I could get thrown out earlier.
