Another long running EA franchise debuting this week is ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters’, which marks the 22nd title in the PGA Tour franchise of which 14 of those are with Tiger Woods, teeing off at No6, again followed by THQ with new entry ‘WWE All Stars’ at No7. EA’s ever popular football simulation ‘FIFA 11’ is up 2 places to No8, giving EA 4 games in the Top 10 this week.

Finishing off the Top 10 are two Nintendo titles, both on the DS, with ‘Pokémon White Version’ at No9 and ‘Art Academy’ shooting up the chart from No33 to No10. Sony’s ‘Motorstorm: Apocalypse’ is the only other new entry in the top 40 this week, debuting at No17.

Any explanation for this? Even a massive price drop shouldn't cause an increase like this, particularly since with casual games you tend to get slow WoW increases in sales.

Bluntness aside, why Zumba? There have been several fitness games released in recent months, some with more obvious selling potential/heavier advertising.

What is Zumba? Is it some TV programme on Living or something? I just don't get it at all.

last week sales - PS3 & xbox version

This week sales Wii version + Ps3 & Xbox version + advertising.



The only shocking thing about 3DS sales is that no one is buying Ghost Recon & Samurai Warriors - the best 2 games.

Well that explains everything apart from why it is so successful over other fitness games. Personally, I have yet to see any adverts for this game.

Brand awareness probably. Even my mum goes to a weekly Zumba class.

The mums probably already have the other fitness games.

As with most of these things the 2nd & 3rd weeks tend to be the big ones so depending on the release schedule it should take the number one slot.

Zumba classes are big business, and if they sent out promo leaflets and stuff directly as well as the magazine adverts in the tv guides etc. then they should get a nice easter hit.

Looks like pretty normal drops for most of those games, actually. 3DS needs a bigger installed base before it can keep games in the top of the charts for several weeks in a row. (Especially in the face of new releases on the other systems.) Either that or a big go-to game that most people buying the system pick up.

Edit: Looking at the immediate PAL release schedule, I wouldn't expect much movement for a while.

Zumba is a Latin dance fitness craze that started in the 90s and seems to get more popular every year. Women seem to love it more than other fitness craze I can think of.

Not really. From what I've seen the game is not that good on Kinect.

3DS was rushed out. They should've waited for a potential unit-driver. Or turned the latest Pokemans into a 3DS title, that would've done gangbusters.

Was it? Would've done a lot better during the run-up to Xmas last year (when it was originally scheduled for launch - in Japan at least).

Also, 3DS can't be played by under 7's so kids continue to play DS and Pokemons and games on R4 Cards.

What is this? There is nothing stopping kids 7 and under from playing it. My 5 year old cousin already has one and loves it.

Word of mouth tends to be what sells these games. This is only anecdotal evidence , but if people in the Zumba classes there put down the Kinect one there like they do here in the states it will continue to sell much less. The game is cheaper than the Zumba DVD so a lot of people opt to buy it for days they can't make the classes.

Nintendo should've released a new console instead of a new handheld or they should've made some games for Wii/DS, something that they totally forgot about for some reason.

This. I bought one but I decided to get one the day of release. I went in the afternoon and was surprised to see so many units and game still being around. It looked like they sold almost no copies.

Heh, I visited our local MediaMarkt today and you know these bargain bins there with handwritten price tags that look super shabby and usually have super cheap DVDs or crappy no-name MP3 players, speakers, external HDDs etc. thrown into them? Well, they have one of those with 3DS' now and are still selling 'em for a mere 222€. That was a very unfortunate picture to say the least. :lol

Wow even Amazon.de is not selling them for that cheap anymore.
