It’s ‘First Person Shooter Week’ for half-term as Sony’s Netherlands-based Guerrilla Games’ ‘Killzone 3’ on PS3 (3D compatible, Move enabled) drops straight in at No1 exactly 2 years after ‘Killzone 2’ (the first PS3 version) –which remains the highlight of this series in terms of week 1 sell-through.

Original ‘Killzone’ debuted way back in week 48, 2004 on PS2. The current version is the 14th fastest-selling Sony title (in terms of week 1 CT panel units), compared to ‘Killzone 2’, currently Sony’s 5th week 1 best-seller. This is Sony’s 2nd All Formats No1 this year, after ‘LittleBigPlanet 2’ on PS3 back in week 3, which showed similar week 1 sell-through to ‘Killzone 3’. It will be interesting to compare these 2 as the weeks go by in order to see how overall cumulative UK sales compare. EA’s ‘Bulletstorm’ (360/PS3/PC) gives ‘Killzone 3’ a good run for its money, debuting right behind at No2 although admittedly over 3 formats. The game is by the teams that developed ‘Gears of War’ (Epic Games) and ‘Painkiller’ (People Can Fly) and marks a 3rd No1 so far this year for EA (FIFA 11 in week 1, Dead Space 2 in weeks 4&5).

Elsewhere in the charts, half-term promotional activity sees Activision Blizzard’s ‘World of Warcraft: Battle Chest’ re-enter at No24, also affecting other titles, but notably Sega’s ‘Sonic Colours’, re-entering at No31.

maybe try releasing your games at the same time as in the us nintendo, instead of when the hype for the game dies down and many hardcore players with either custom firmware know how have imported or for some others just pirated the game.

Holy shit @ Bulletstorm on PS3

I'm actually not sure if you think it was worse or better than expected. I mean it was sent against kz3...

Jeez horrible KZ3 numbers in the UK and Netherlands, recall KZ2 debuting at number 1 everywhere. As I said in the other thread KZ2 must have left a bad taste in the mouth of consumers, KZ3 MP is good but nothing special as is the SP so this franchise will remain a weak one for Sony. GG need to ditch it and start a new IP and I mean there main team, not the game from the new studio. GT5 is dropping really quickly as well and if things stay as they are will drop out of the top 40 by next week. It's not had a price drop though so has plenty left in the tank.

Seen quite a few Kirby adverts but to be fair it's on Cartoon Network, I know due to watching Flapjack and Chowder from time to time.......Nintendo will love onto other channels I'm sure. I should start doing Nintendo adverts form now on, either have some friends and family getting overly excited playing the Wii together, some friends and family getting overly excited playing the Wii together or some friends and family getting overly excited playing the Wii together. No problem Nintendo, gimme a million.

If you're a PS3 owner in the mood for an FPS this week, are you really going to choose Bulletstorm (relatively crappy port of a game that's pretty divisive to start with) over Killzone 3 (first-party exclusive triple A goodness)?

You know, in hindsight, this means that there weren't really great sales for anything this week, since Killzone 2 didn't exactly set the world on fire with sales either.

I think they're referring to Killzone 3 being Sony's 14th biggest debut this generation while Killzone 2 was their 5th biggest.

That's a big drop... although... the measurement is sort of skewed because Killzone 2 will not be 5th now, two years later, we need hard numbers. We saw LBP2 have a small drop in launch numbers compared to LBP, but in that case LBP launched in the holiday season so was understandable. Nonetheless, these trends are weird with the constantly increasing userbase of the PS3. It'll be interesting to see what happens to Infamous 2 and Uncharted 3.

Actually, the quote says that Killzone 2 *is* the current 5th week one best seller.

At least PS3 users do know what to buy. They do know KZ3 wasn't improve over KZ2, but it deffo not worth over for Bulletstorm.

The lack of Dutch support for their own country's big gaming franchise surprises me more than the UK placement. Let's not forget KZ 2 was THE game to get as a PS3 owner when it launched. Not everyboy will have fallen in love with the franchise and there are (recent) great alternative games to get.

Killzone 2 was 4th at the time, only GT5 had a stronger debut in the meantime. I know three games that sold stronger than KZ2 in week 1 (GT4, GT5P, GT5), what's the fourth one?

The actual gap between KZ2 and KZ3 might not be that big though, something like 100k vs 70k might be the case...

Tactics Ogre :/ Top 40 would have been encouraging.

This was never ever ever ever ever ever going to happen. It's a PSP game. It's in PAL land. It's an update of an old PS1 game that nobody in Europe has ever heard of. Nobody was ever going to buy this game in numbers.

Anyway, disappointing start for Epic Yarn but I'm sure it will be a low burner and do alright in the end. NoE have to take some of the blame if it doesn't though, they fucked around with the release date just like they did with Superstar Ultra. Staggered launches are so antiquated a practice.

CozMick said:
Well, I certainly expected it to enter in the top 5.

Placing 14th, even with the KZ3 release is pretty damn shitty.
But in the other thread you said...
CozMick said:
Bulletstorm reaching number 2 is down to one thing only, the gears beta, and it isn't even needed.

Wouldn't even make the top 5 if Epic had announced the Gold Account beta before release.
And yet the Gears beta isn't exactly going to help the PS3 version is it?

Either way it's a great debut for a brand new IP whatever way you look at it.

Killzone 3 sales don't surprise me at all. I thought KZ2 was just an ordinary shooter with superb graphics and crap story, nothing more nothing less. People just want cod, cod and more cod.

I think KZ2's total sales were a fair reflection of what it was.

A crappy shooter with crap graphics and a terrible story which has be repackaged four times now...

Not sure if they're limiting it to this generation, but I don't have a list in front of me.

Edit: It's all time... I think?

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=354234

‘Killzone 2’ becomes the 4th fastest selling Sony published title ever in the UK (2nd fastest on PS3 behind ‘GT5 Prologue’).

On a random note, I've noticed in the past few weeks that GT5 and Kinect Sports were tracking very close to each other, but GT5 took a fairly big tumble this week.

GT5 / Kinect Sports
Week 1: 04th vs 06th
Week 2: 04th vs 03rd
Week 3: 08th vs 06th
Week 4: 13th vs 12th
Week 5: 17th vs 16th
Week 6: 22nd vs 23rd
Week 7: 26th vs 22nd
Week 8: 34th vs 24th

Meaningless, obviously. But it caught my eye.

Doubt it. Uncharted 2 is a more likely candidate.

GoW3 sold 1.2M in its first week. From memory, I don't think Uncharted 2 did that much, but i'll check. (Unfortunately, I dont' have access to VGCPro at home)

Games pretty much always come out on Fridays in the UK. The only exceptions are simultaneous worldwide launches like Halo, COD etc. which come out on Tuesdays.
