Weird coincidence, watching the news absent-mindedely and the reporter's exact words were 'Hype for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee has reached the boiling point' :lol
How are you celebrating her majesties' birthday, gaf?

I'd say Wii U still has one big secret which nobody has thought of yet.

Perhaps it's a tablet computer after all? Perhaps the E3 2011 console was a mock up?

That would be a serious megaton, but it makes sense, especially in the light of having not really seen the console itself. In fact, I think this guy is 100% right.

Why so many different theories? The simple answer is the right one. Today is for the hardware and any changes they might have introduced since last e3.

It's also so EA and Ubisoft can openly show whatever want tomorrow at their conferences without being the first ones to show Nintendo's new updates.

EDIT: Nintendo also said no games today, that will be the focus on Tuesday.

I doubt it's possible to make put everything in such a small space and power it up with batteries. And what about the cables to the TV? Doesn't make sense at all to me.

Lets say for fun the Wii U is infact a 360 in terms of specs. Throwing all that into a wireless controller without heating issues that is comfortable to hold and doesnt need to charged every 2 hours would be a challenge for engineers 10 years from now, much less today.

Crazy talk.

Edit: Cygnus, beat me with the most obvious fact, connecting to the tv. That would require another box that accepts the signals and outputs to the tv, destroying any reason why you would thrown the tech inside the controller at that point.

>low expectations
>Majoras Mask 3D

:/
I expect a game where nintendo has already made 80% of the assests for it. A sequel to one of their best selling games on a platform that could use a couple more games. A gem they know there are plenty of fans of but tons of people still haven't played for tons of reasons. Not that high of expectations... Its no starfox metroid thats for sure.

Will it happen? I don't know. Probably not. Is it unreasonable though? Absolutely not.

I guess you're right, but they have phones that can do HDMI to tv. With technology the way it is today, having power in a small form factor would not be very difficult. How are they going to cut costs with this thing? If the controller is going to have all this functionality, you are not going to get that bad boy for $49.99. I would not be surprised if the console is the controller. I mean, who really saw the Wii waggle controllers coming? I sure didn't. Ninty could do something wild like this to separate themselves from the 'pack".

First, you cn't pack such horsepower in such a tiny space and think your batteries will last even 1 hour. Second, we have already seen the Wii U, and in the leaked controller wee can see a lot of cables that probably go to the Devkit.

I'd be happy if they finally figured out how to link our purchases to our accounts instead of to a piece of hardware. Stuff everyone else figured out years ago.

I've never played Majoras Mask so a 3D version would be nice, other than that i hope the wii u launches with more than one color, only a couple of hours to go!

I think they'll talk about hardware changes since E3 2011, maybe show some of the OS and services like HBO etc.

I know we have seen the "wii u", but has been confirmed that, that is the console? I can't argue your point about space and power, but I am enjoying speculating until the final reveal.

I guess the Wii Menu style OS will be on the tablet, and preview images and whatnot will be on the TV, similar to the 3DS OS.

I think we'll see some surprises/changes in the final form, but nothing that huge.

It's been confirmed to be a box that is hooked up to your TV. Here's even a nice picture of it:

I have zero idea of the credibility; mock if old.

The Wii U will be getting achievements, cloud storage, social networking, avatars, and much more, according to a developer Wii U Daily spoke to. The source, working at a European development house with several Wii U projects in the pipeline, says Nintendo will unveil many of the new Nintendo Network features at E3 next week. Here’s a run down of the rumored features:

Wii U achievements
Nintendo will introduce an achievement system where players can earn achievements in games much like Xbox Live and PlayStation Trophies. However, Nintendo is said to be expanding the service where players who accumulate a certain amount of points get access to additional features. “We have a lot of freedom with the Wii U points system, we can add “brackets” for players, e.g. if you amass X points you get promoted into a new bracket with awards such as new MP [multiplayer] skins”. While the source called the feature “Wii U points”, he made it clear that Nintendo hasn’t settled on a name. “It’s basically what we’ve been asking Microsoft to do for years. Players who earn points by completing the game should be awarded. We can do that now”.

Wii U cloud storage
We previously reported about Wii U cloud storage, we have some more details on that. The cloud storage option will be “a few hundred MB”, will be free to all players, and will only be used to store save games and player profiles. It’ll launch in 2013.

Social networking
Nintendo will also add “deep integration” of social networking features to the Wii U, including both Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook. Players will be able to upload screenshots to their Facebook accounts, auto-Tweet game progress, and record and upload game videos to YouTube. “They’re working on a UI overlay for the OS to add Twitter and FB notifications, but so far we haven’t seen it. They’ve reserved a lot of system memory for stuff like that”, the developer told us. “There isn’t much documentation about it in the new SKD, but they’ve told us it’ll be available in the future”.

Wii U avatars
Nintendo Network on Wii U will introduce new avatars with a lot more features than the original Mii avatars on the Wii console. Players will be able to use the Wii U controller’s built-in camera to take pictures of themselves and create digital avatars that resemble high-definition Miis. The Miis can then be imported into games. “There’s an API for the camera to scan faces and turn them into low-res 3D versions for games. But it’s still buggy as hell and it depends a lot on the kind of engine you’re running”, the source said.

Wii U development and game ports
Additionally, the source mentioned that porting current gen games to the Wii U isn’t as easy as originally thought, and that games that have been developed for the Xbox 360 are “much easier to port to Wii U than PS3 versions. A lot less headache involved because their architecture is similar. Technically, you can just recompile X360 to the Wii U and it’ll pretty much run, but PS3 to Wii U is much much trickier.” He said that the latest SDK hardware is final, only the software keeps updating. “We’ve spent a lot of time creating our own tools for the X360 this generation, and we’ve already tweaked a lot of the tools to work on the Wii U. But if you code on the Wii U from ground up and have to use middleware, it’s probably gonna be tougher than doing an X360 game from ground up.”
The achievement system in particular sounds really awesome. HYYYYYYPE!

I don't think so, Sony and Microsoft both said there will be no console reveal @ E3, they could have said something like no comment. Furthermore Reggie said earlyer this year we would get WiiU news before E3, and today it is technically before E3.

Well if you remember a few years ago Nintendo were so certain that Microsoft would show their newton controller they announced WiiMotion+ a few hours before Microsoft's press conference.

Skiesofwonder

Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.
I still say they are going to reveal a revivial of biometric feedback/vitality sensor in some form, along with details on the rest of the hardware (NFC, Support for two U-pads along with detailed information on the controller, specs, etc).

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
The rumored achievement system is what I've been desiring for years. It actually gives a reason to complete the games/acquire the achievements. Trophies/gamerscore is pointless to me.
