Sorry. I meant 'depends' in the sarcastic sense. As in 'There is no possible way, but just for the sake of argument.'

I've said it before, but THE ONLY WAY I would be interested in this game is if, at the halfway mark (or substantially before, ideally) the perspective switched, and you now played the detective investigating the shooting spree, and working towards his apprehension.
That is the game I want to play.

Oh, I see now. Sorry, I couldn't tell at all.

So... I just calculated the percentage of black victims in the trailer (close-up shots only) because I wanted to reiterate what I think is being overlooked by a lot of people here.

Well, it's 66.6. I'll just leave that out there.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say that it looks really fun.

I can't see how this is different to slaughtering NPC's in any game. (GTA, TombRaider, Uncharted, COD etc).

It's a game.

There are people out there, serial killers, who have killed just to experience taking a life. These people are fucked up, but not everyone needs a backstory to make them fit into the theory that they must be driven somehow by an external situation.

What is wrong with a game that has brutality for brutality's sake?

Exactly.

I had a drawn out rebutal to what you posted here..but your tag saved me the trouble, you're just playing devils advocate because you're bored most likely.

They could have sold more copies if they made the lead a likeable criminal who kills cops that are trying to protect the innocent. Oh well.

Is that a bad thing? It's a pretty popular subgenre of horror in film.

People can not like it, and not support it, but it seems to be a valid and consistent trope in entertainment history.
I think the same of gore porn in non-gaming mediums :/

I think that's too much. It's ok to be different but there are other (better) ways to do that,

These days, when a lot of games are heading to be polite, colorful, politically correct and trying to be some kind of higher art, rather than just an entertainment – we wanted to create something against trends.

"Polite", "colorful"? WTF? Since when?

Officially the first game I don't want to play because it's too sketchy/violent.

Wasn't sure this day would come.

I felt terrible watching that trailer.

The game doesn't really seems all that interesting. At least Postal had a charm to it.

But you know... free market place of ideas and all that jazz.

People "will find ways" to get offended...like a disturbing number of the brutally executed civilians being minorities...and one of the developers supposedly openly supporting a neo-Nazi hate group.

Yeah you know...just "finding ways to get offended."

Pretty sure I saw a white woman getting killed too, during the part of the trailer set in a park, so I don't believe your targets are exclusively non-whites. Assuming the game is set in New York and I am basing this on the NYPD location, is having varied race really a problem? Very clearly the game is focused on killing everybody in sight, not a particular race or valuing one race at the expense of all else. Being offended by minorities being killable only works if your sole targets are minorities, as that begins to project false ideas like a "superior" and "inferior" race. Most games that give you the freedom to kill who you want typically have people of various ethnicity, like the games I cited earlier. Nothing in that trailer gave the direct impression that this game would try to change that up and exclude one and make the game about taking out all of the rest.

Regarding the developer supporting neo-Nazism, I was speaking only on the merits of the game, not a person working on the game. People can very clearly be bothered by that, and if it appears to have a major influence on the product, one can be bothered by that.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution was such a great game

I never bothered to play it. Care to elaborate?

I never said I was buying the game or supporting the devs. I just don't get the outrage. Sure it's senseless, gratuitous violence. But don't say there is no context. That is the context. You play as a guy with hatred in his heart, nothing to lose and a yearning for death. He wants to take as many people with him as possible. The context is merely very simple and straight forward. Evil? Yes. Fucked up? Yes. But don't pretend that contexts or motivations for characters in other games are somehow justified. You can't say murdering hundreds or thousands of people for the sake of securing an ncient artifact, saving the world or winning a war is 100% morally or ethically justified. In the end you're still killing a ton people, without remorse for your benefit.

The real question here isn't asking whether this game goes too far, it's asking do other games go too far and are the characters in those games justified on what they inevitably accomplish despite how many they kill.

So wait. When you have an enemy attempting to kill you, as in the Uncharted games, that's not at least somewhat justifiable? I would think the fact that there is an enemy attempting to end your (digital) existence kind of gives you the justification.
Considering the narrative track that the UC games follow, where Drake is initially attempting to procure and artifact, and then discovers some plot that will make kill/enslave hundreds of thousands of people, and is subsequently pursued by the villain and his/her army of mercenaries... I would say yes, his killings are justified. He's not going to their houses and killing their families.

So, it's kind of like the Drawn Together of video games in that Drawn Together never tried to make a point for being crass and disturbing. It just wanted to be those things and have fun.

I love that cartoon.

This is doing the same for violence, but man, that's a bit harder to get behind than stupid fart jokes.

Though the end result of this is: it'll appeal to a bunch of people that frequent 4chan who will then pirate the game. I really don't see a great financial gain from this. Not that people should go making projects for money, but money is kind of a nice return. But this, I feel like anyone even interested in it will just hit up a torrent site.

I don't like the premise of the game. Reminds me to a lot of real cases :/

Which is a shame because it actually looks fun to play. Just make the people zombies goddamn it why use normal people.

Is it strange that I didn't flinch at all watching the trailer?

To me, everything looks too cartoony. The main character already announces he's a screwed up person, so where's the shock value?

It really doesn't feel any different to other games where you have a gun and still shoot people.

Yeah, nomatter your feelings on the game, I think posting the CEO's pic and pegging him as part of a hate group (unless there is some kind of proof I am missing here) is really obnoxious and hateful in and of itself. Stop.

edit: Seen proof. Carry on, gentlemen.

I keep seeing this and it kind of baffles me. Battlefield 4 might be military pap but you really don't see the difference between fighting enemy soldiers and brutally executing random civilians for pleasure?

I actually agree. I don't think Gaf is the place for religion or politics. Like the pub.

Can opened. Worms everywhere.

Honestly, this game just looks like you are Rob Zombie's Michael Myers with guns.

I have a feeling if this game's context was to play a horror movie villain, there wouldn't be such an outrage.

Although, just to clarify - assuming the Polish Defence League is the same as the British EDL, they're not technically a "hate group". They kind of rose up in response to some nonsensical left-wing/Muslim/media bullshit thing that seems to be sweeping people along at the minute.

Generally, they're the right-wing version of the British UAF (Unite Against Fascism). Lots of demonstrations and shouting with nary a braincell amongst them. Harmless, if distasteful, bunch.

Or as my mate puts it; "Grown men playing at being soldiers".

At least they were until we got the Kings of Clownshoes "Britain First". Ho hum.
