IGN - World exclusive hands on with GTA V

So you commented on it without reading the whole thing...figured.

The first page alone reeked of faux-journalist PR-bullshit soaked in horse semen, and the comments in here confirm that the other three pages aren't any different. So drop the condescension, would you ?

Do they have any smaller pictures? these 600x300 ones are still too big.

Also IGN gona IGN, the usual 'world exclusive' contract for them and a the usual wad of cash (in the form of ad deals for their website):

How about you give it a read before commenting; that usually is the safest way instead of relying on what others say.

The hyperbole in this article comes off as really gross 2K marketing, regardless of whether or not that's the actual case.

"For most of this year gamers the world over have been preoccupied with discussing 2013’s exciting new console launches. We’ve hung on Sony and Microsoft’s every word, waiting for confirmation of just when the next generation was set to arrive. The truth is, we knew all along. September 17."

"Never mind November; I suspect the next generation will start when GTA V says it is does."

Is this the Citizen Cane of GTAs? Only IGN can know for sure.

Internet, TV I have heard are back. Not sure about comedy clubs..saw a strip club in the one preview. I hope they are all back as well.

Cool, thanks. Really hope they have brought the comedy clubs back and put in more stand up acts than the 2(I think) in the original game before dlc.

I'm really curious what the game actually looks like in motion. Those shots and videos look way too AA'ed for current gen consoles...

PC shots?

Lol. I just going with the flow dude.

Honestly GTA games are about the only ones with a bit of mystique still left nowadays.
Generally people remember where they were when they first booted up a numbered GTA.

Well I do.

-cutscenes work fluid. like when going in a marker there is no short balckscreen, instead the camera goes cinematic. same goes for the end of the cutscenes.

I hope this doesn't mean your weapons will be defaulted whenever the cutscene ends. I hated that in MP3.

I was planning on avoiding anything GTA related during launch; might have to start that early as some of the comments in here are clearly trolling.

The preview was generally horse shit. A few good nuggets of information that we didn't know, but otherwise, hyperbole about transcendent experiences. Although to be fair I skipped paragraphs that felt spoilery to me and scanned just for new info about mechanics. I don't want actual missions spoiled.

Dumb question but they probably didn't say anything about the resolution or FPS did they?

None at all. Although the German website said that the 360 version ran well without stuttering, but did have more aliasing than in the cinematic trailers.

The IGN preview was a glorified novel-like walkthrough of 3 missions, without much mention of mechanics.

IGN has it?!!! I predict tomorrow the day of the leak

Nah, they flew to Rockstar's offices to play it. They say so in the video reveal.

They probably have special debug tools for taking screenshots which add some effects that aren't present in normal gameplay.

Why is that a dumb question? Very important topics to discuss.

I am not concerned one bit about the frame rate after all the recent trailers including the gameplay trailer, which as the trailer itself states was pulled directly from the PS3 version. Thats what the game will look like. Would love to read those words in a preview, though.

Play a drinking game, any time you see "Oscar worthy" or variants of it take a shot. You'll be blind drunk by the end of the first page.

If this game resembles red dead redemption is going to be marvelous. Red dead is awesome, but gta4 is so so.... I have high hopes for this one!

That was a little embarrassing to read. As for the remarks on the handling, alright hope they didnt mess it up too much. The weight was great in 4.

This was a lot more balanced and informative than the simpering drivel in the OP which pretty much read like a wet dream. The video impressions are more realistic and grounded and confirm improved driving mechanics, improved combat, more sandboxy-y missions and a busier world than IV.

Still, as we know it's too early to call yet and people do lose their critical faculties close to a GTA launch. I'm cautiously optimistic that this will be great but at the same time prepared for shitty escort missions, frustrating timed missions and unfair checkpoints. So it goes in GTA.

I'm just so damn scared of this game once again running at absolutely atrocious framerates. Of course IGN wouldn't mention anything about that, they're probably too starstruck to even notice all the flaws this game is bound to be riddled with. 10/10 while running at 20-25 fps, watch it happen.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Xbox 360 version sounds solid. They said it looks like it has more Aa than in trailers and there was no stuttering for 3 hours they playes

They said it has less AA than the trailers and aliasing was the only little problem PC Games had with the graphics but besides that it looks amazing.

What does "no stuttering" mean though? A game running at 25 fps doesn't exactly "stutter", but it sure as hell isn't smooth.

I got some good info out of it; missions aren't as closed off like they were in GTA V. How amazing the city looks at night. Civilian responses to carjacking seems more varied. The different flashing colors on the character wheel and what they mean, Chopper controls are improved, checkpoint system from TBOGT is in, animals randomly getting run over...I got what I needed from it. I mean, the guy was hyped for the game..big deal.

Has Rockstar confirmed whether property is customizable? I want to decorate my safe house.

This preview was okay but lacked substance IMHO.

I don't think you can decorate the inside, but they did mention having the expand a safehouse with an helipad, if i'm not mistaken.

Haha I was hoping you we're kidding, but in this thread it's hard to tell.

I know way more about Watchdogs and I'm way less hyped.

I feel like people should trust Rockstar by now. If you don't like their games, it's because they're not your type of games.

clearly says more aliasing than trailers

And snake said less antialiasing, so you're both right...

What a bloated and pretentiously written article.

I didn't think it was pretentious as much as it was someone who was just very enthusiastic to share their experience. Since I'm also highly anticipating the game I understand the enthusiasm, and there was a lot of information in there about how certain things work that make me even more excited than some of the hyperbole used.

I thought it was fine but I stopped reading after midway of page three since I'd like to experience some of the missions without knowing so many details. The level of animation sounds good, but I wish the person also commented on things like the frame rate, or how well the in game graphics compare to the trailers.

The hyperbole...I'm drowning in it...

When I rant about why Grand Theft Auto V is better than just about anything on the market -- about why I think it's my new favorite game of all time -- I don't talk about the firefights, the new ability to pimp your ride or collecting the game's 1001 well-hidden pigeons. I talk about the heart-wrenching section where Trevor is by himself and completely lost. He's on his last legs, he's desperate, and I'm right there with him. I'm pushing him through the journey at hand and it's clear that it's a game, but as he stumbles, seeks shelter and loses hope, my heart breaks.

The Verdict

IGN defines a 10.0 -- a masterpiece -- as "the pinnacle of gaming, a masterpiece may not be flawless, but it is so exceptional that it is hard to imagine a game being better." That's Grand Theft Auto V. From start to finish, single player to multiplayer, this game sings. The characters, the graphics, the sound, the story – they’re all top notch. If you’re willing to skip GTA V, be prepared to miss one of gaming’s finest moments.
10/10.

I'm still torn between what platform to pre order it on.

Same here, I've just about lost all will to play on the 360 anymore, but I'm fairly confident it's gonna edge out the PS3 version again, as it has on so many occasions.

I've got the PS3 version pre-ordered though.

Ive got mine preordered for the 360..but only because my friends will be playing on there as well. I would sorta like to play on PS3 tho...eh well.

I bought it on PS3, but I will get it day one when the PC version comes out. Also, just curious since I'm not sure, can you fully customize weapons?

My exact sentiments.

Played all of my GTA IV on 360/PC, feels like a strange tradition after going with the Dualshock for the entire prior GTA generation.

Can't read the whole article right now, so quick question:

Whats the word on car crash physics and deformation? Is the GTA IV style vehicle deformation still in?

The distinction between GTA V and GTA IV’s vehicle handling is immediately clear; carving my way through the throngs of 18-wheelers the low-slung supercar feels more sure-footed and grippy than similar models in GTA IV. It’s more responsive, but without erring towards feeling too superficial or light.

Ok now I'm interested in driving again.
