My fingerprints are on file with multiple agencies as a condition of my company's contracts with them - can't get clearance to go on site without it. It's really not a big deal.

Ah I see, thanks for informing me. Hmm I have the Amazon Chase Prime card that was marketed awhile ago but this might be my next card if I decide to open up another line of credit.

It's only worthwhile if you travel a lot. There's a $450 annual fee, but you get $300 in credit back for travel-related expenses, plus the TSA Pre-Check or Global Entry, lounge access (which is amazing if you travel a lot), and I got 100,000 bonus miles for spending $5000 on the card in the first 3 months. I think they've reduced it to 50,000 now. I just charge a ton of client filing fees and stuff, which I get reimbursed for, so the minimum spends on these things are easy for me to hit.
Not sure if they make the card in the awesome metal they used to, either. It's heavy and feels totally badass.

The TSA has been piloting (no pun intended) the new screening policies at 10 airports, and is now ready to expand them to all US airports in the weeks and months ahead. In standard screening lanes, TSA agents will be stationed in front of X-ray machines to verbally assist passengers with the new screening procedures.

All of that except the camera stuff easily fits in a briefcase.

The cameras I wrap up in camera socks/blankets and place them in my suitcase. Most my trips are only for 2-3 days, tops.

Last Thursday I got up at 4am. 6am flight from MCI to CLE. Day in CLE. Flew back to MCI that night and was home by 10pm. Grabbed a smaller camera and didn't even bother with extra clothes/suitcase except a t-shirt in my messenger bag.

I flew to Hawaii with my Switch right after it launched and the TSA stopped me. They made me pull it out and turn it on. I thought it was a new policy, but the dude then says, "thanks, I wanted to see one. That's the first one to come through."

I wasn't happy that I basically turned my backpack inside out for him to just catch a peek at the new hotness.

That 100k points paid for my flight to Japan later this year.

Just set up a TSA-Pre Check appointment for the end of August. That was quick and easy.

Isn't this because it was leaked that Daesh was planning to conceal bombs in batteries? Considering cameras and lenses have lots of metal, plastic and glass, and the battery itself isn't that big and is removable... This shouldn't apply to them? It's optics...
If I'm wrong, well, yeah, this will be a pain in the ass.
And in the hearts of those amateur gearhead tourists when they see all the high end glass and magnesium alloy.

I already had to do this with my CPAP machine.

Last few times I've been to the airport, pre-check lines have been longer. Guess I'll continue to not have Pre-check

Depending on the airport I had to take my laptop out in Precheck lines as well.

Bin for all my pocket shit and shoes
Bin for Switch case, take Switch out first
Bin for Surface case, take Surface out first
Backpack

One dude travelling pretty light. That's a pain.

Still looking at 10min from curb to gate even with an increase in TSA pre members from this shit.

You don’t need a separate bin for the Switch and the Surface, I’m sure you can fit both in a bin without stacking them.

If I were a terrorist I'd just blow up bombs at these security checkpoints. Plenty of people milling about for collateral damage!

(Just get rid of the TSA. It's quite possibly the best cut of government bloat possible.)

I can't stand people who carry on their clothes unless they're only going to be staying for a day or two. They're a big part of the reason overhead bins are so crowded and why getting on/off the plane takes so long.

Also, my coworker just said that on his most recent trip, he was told he had to take all of the books out of his carry-on and screen them on their own, because "bombs can be paper thin now, we need to be sure".

I had to do this when I went to EVO. I swear I took like 5 bins on my own. Felt bad for the guys waiting in line behind me.

The TSA agents were very respectful though.

Pro-tip: tell them you don't have you license as an ID if you are flying domestically. They will take you to the front of the security line for a 5 minute background check and pat down and you will be good to go.

I've already seen instances in the morning at places like O'Hare where the Precheck line actually started off longer than the regular one. From my experience when that happens though, people still get through that line faster. Things just go so much faster when people aren't taking off their shoes and a million things from their bags.

But there's also the times when I take a late night flight and the pre-TSA line is closed off at that point. Going to be fun to deal with this then.

Not a fan.

I flew out of the US and just returned Friday without having to take two ipads, two Kindles, a Nikon DSLR camera, and various chargers out of their cases/bags or out of my backpack. I just put the backpack in the bin and let them scan it.

I travel pretty light and don't mind going through security but man I wish the US system was more efficient than "dump everything in its own bin". I barely bring anything and still need to fuck with like 4 trays.
