NieR: Automata |OT| "I wouldn't expect too much from this game if I were you."

Gravity Rush 2 to get NieR: Automata 2B Collaboration Costume

Now we just need 2B to get Kat's costume & we're golden.

So, I'm kinda at a crossroads between this and Horizon. I played the demo last night, and it was cool, but I didn't understand what was going on because I never played any of the previous games.

You don't need to have played any of the previous games. As for the demo, it's more or less the beginning of the game, so don't worry on being confused.

Get this over Horizon tho, wait for reviews if you must

What LotusHD said above me is completely true - though if you're interested in finding out the lore behind the games that lead to this installment, check out the links in the OP FAQ. (The Clemps Analyses Specifically)

Fun Fact: He's almost done the 3rd (+4th?) part of the NieR Analysis, so I'll be adding that tot he playlist once that's done too.

Route B wtf moment

When you set the settings with 2B, and 9S said this process is getting recorded, 9S isn't lying. in Route B they literally run a recording of what you did with 2B in Route A

Holy shit

Three new questions:
  1. Does anyone with importing experience know if saves from the HK/JP versions will be playable on an NA copy of the game? (Getting an NA version later as my physical)
  2. Does NieR: Automata use the 'Ending' Structure (A la NieR) or 'Timeline' Structure? (A la Drakengard 3)
  3. Is the 'Route' Structure different from those two?

I'll repeat the question, since we have more folks online now: How long does it take to go through all of the story relevant content in Drakengard 3? I'm wondering if I can do it before Automata comes out on PC.

So far it is

It's akin to NieR's so far, tho still a bit different

Roughly 20-30 hours, 30-40 if you gonna play all the story dlc

Douchebag. Yes, me.
Does anything carry over from the intro into the main game (gold, items)?

Wondering if I should just blow through the whole thing on easy without collecting anything (have to play through it again due to the save bug)

Nice to see that the Japan Trophies are in English as well. Ended up just playing the game in Normal mode so far, I feel like Hard just doesn't feel as enjoyable.

Can anyone help me with the
YoRHa Betrayers
sidequest? There's a dot on my minimap, but it seems to be
inside the Goliath wreckage
and I can't find anything outside.

Did anyone try preordering the HK physical edition that was set to release today from Play-Asia? I did and ate the most expensive shipping cost assuming it would get here within a few days of release, and so that I could sell it to my roommate once my Black Box edition comes, but they're still preparing my order and it's after release day.. Not sure what their usual timing is for an order like this, just wondering what other people's experiences are.

Thought I'd pop in and ask questions for those who have beaten it. So, I know the game has multiple endings, but I'm not really interested in playing the game more than once. How different is it once you've beaten the game the first time? Are there new quests, areas, etc., or is it a typical Platinum experience where your move sets and what not carry over? Also, is about 8 hours for the first playthrough about right?

You would miss out on a lot should you choose to finish the game only once.
Not sure about movesets carrying over though.

Yoko Taro builds his entire narrative around branching stories and different endings, if you're not interested in experiencing those there is no purpose in following the story at all.

In regards to your more specific question:

In Route B you play through the entire game again as a different character with different movesets and new as well as altered stry content.

It took me 16 hours to finish Route A.

I'm starting to cave. Need another
C/D impression if they feel fresh after A/B
before pulling the trigger. I can't afford all these games, man..

What difficulty are you guys playing on?

I'm playing on Normal for now. I played the intro sequence a few times on Hard but then switched it to Normal because I kept dying in weird ways like when the camera swings in the shmup sections.

I want to play on Hard because Normal can feel a slight too easy at times but I also feel like you can just shmup your way through sections too much. The up close combat has a lot of risk associated with it so far as you have to mash the evade button to hit critical combos. I obviously need more time, I only played the game for 2-3 hours but Normal makes the game look flashier because of having the lock on.

Did you not play the original Nier? It was the same deal there the firs two endings were pretty similar then shit goes nuts in the others

It was the opposite :p

B had a bunch of new content, but C and D only changed in the very ending, might as well youtube them after experiecing B for yourself.

Are side quests random? (Very mild first mission spoilers)

last night I ended up playing a bit on the wrong account and restarted today on my main. The first time I went to the hangar, someone was there to ask me to help with a side quest, but that didn't happen this time.

Guess I just got ending A. I logged about 20 hours (due to screwing around and getting stuck on bosses) but it definitely doesn't take long to beat if you just focus on story quests.

How's the cursing/cussing in this game? Is it very excessive?

Surprisingly non-existent for the most part

Re: sidequests: are they all "collect 10 x/ kill 10 y"?

There are also some that are puzzles or minibosses, as well as some escort quests

What difficulty are you guys playing on?

Playing on Hard and trust me, this really is hard. Most bosses in the second half one-shot you.

I love the sense of humor in this game. Nier and D3 had some comedy as well, but this one is much wackier than Nier and better executed than D3. I just attempted the
anti-violence parade escort
and I couldn't stop giggling.
