Yakuza KIWAMI |OT| Translator's Note: "KIWAMI" means "EXTREME"

How old is Kiryu in Yakuza 1?

I assume he is 18? In Yakuza 0 set in 1988.
Then in 1995 he is sent to prison for 10 years.
Then he is released in 2005 in Yakuza 1.

So that would put him about 35 in the first game?
He's 20 in Yakuza 0.

He's 27/37 in Yakuza 1/Kiwami.

Doesn't really matter much though, cause he's Japanese Jesus. He doesn't really age like mortals. He's 48 in Yakuza 6, yet looks like this.

I like how half the trophies are for Majima appearing in various ways.

Anyways, real excited for this. Zero was my first Yakuza game and I'm totally ready for more.

It's there from the start, down on the D-pad although it gets nerfed hard [early game (chapter 2) spoiler but avoid if you've never played Yakuza 1 before]
after the 10 years in prison
. The Majima Everywhere system is how you build it back up. Judging by my progress with it it's still going to be late game before it's as usable as the other 3 styles, but at least it's always there if you want.

And pulling out your equipped weapon is done by pressing the direction of whatever style you are currently in.

Excellent. That's more or less how I would have wanted it.

This game is a trip down memory lane. I'll prepare the scotch.

Buy it. You are guaranteed a great experience.

Christ this is out tomorrow and I completely forgot! *checks pre-load*

Have we had any indications from reviews how long Kiwami is?
I played 0 through 77 hours with doing a lot of side quests, an ok amount of side activities and the whole cabaret Majima storyline.

I'm kinda hoping this game is a little shorter, my backlog is creaking haha.

So excited this is releasing and my copy is on the way......

But, I've got a full class load 5 days a week and work 5 days a week. It will either take precious sleep/study time away or make me sad looking at the case b/c I can't play

It is shorter by quite a bit because you only play as Kiryu plus there is just less side content in general being a remake. They could only add so much to make it still fit Yakuza 1's storyline.

I gotta buy this today. Still pissed i fell asleep at the end of 0 and never got the completion troph.. cause the ps4 turned off automatically 😑😑

The hype is killing me. Just bought 3 & 4 now on PS3. Even if they announce remasters of those, won't be coming out this year or next. $200ish gone, lol. Bought 0, this, 3 and 4. The next few months is nothing but this series for me. We probably will get the 2nd Kiwami end of next year.

Does 3 tell what happened in 2 at all? If not I guess I can read a wiki page.

3 has a movie summary showing you the gist of what happened in 2. But why not just wait to play through the remake? You'll lose the impact of some of the plot twists by watching a short video compared to actually playing through the whole game.

3 has recap videos of both 1 and 2 that you can watch.

Oh really?

Cuz Goro Majima's description in the OT is making my head spin... I haven't finished Yakuza 0 yet but Goro in Kiwami sounds like 2 totally different people from the Goro I know in 0.

It happens kind of out of nowhere and makes very little sense at all. Don't worry about it.

Like I said, its a long wait for the 2nd remake to make it here. I'll watch the recap, then replay the remake when it releases. And I won't understand 3 if I haven't played 2?

Excellent! I get everything on Wednesday.

2's story is almost completely self contained. I'd suggest its better skipping it, and just grabbing the remake. Its just doing the game a disservice by spoiling it for yourself. I mean, its worth waiting at least until December to see if it gets an English announcement via PSX, its not really that long to wait if its released within the next year anyway.

So don't play 3, or play 3 and don't watch the recap? Its my OCD, I like to complete things all at once. lol

3 is self contained as fuck, apart from a very brief prologue where you just say goodbye to 2 crucial characters from Yakuza 2, it's basically its own thing, similarly with 4.

So, I guess you people are getting at is don't watch the recap, and if it is its on story, then I can play it with no knowledge of the 2nd game?

Unlike 0, do you keep some things starting a 2nd game on Ex Hard? Or do you start completely fresh again?

I might be the only one that cares about this, but I did some searching and found the following:

"So you can start EX Hard with your clear save data. When you do, all your items will be where you left them when you made the clear data save. The items, weapons, and armor in your inventory will stay in your inventory... and everything in your item box will stay in your item box. The weapons and armor you have equipped will stay equipped too.

All side missions reset, and so does the Completion List requirements for Komaki. EVERYTHING else is carried over... all the mini-games completion, coin locker completion (not sure if you can recollect these again or not), heat moves, food and drinks lists.... everything."

(From https://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/181171-yakuza-kiwami/73485993)

Can anyone confirm- one can do a full Ex-Hard playthrough starting with a clear save vs. "just" premium adventure mode? This seems different than Yakuza 0; what's the difference between a clear save start on new difficulty and premium adventure mode then... simply no story missions in the latter?

If you're going to play Kiwami 2 anyway, don't watch the recap.

So something like this - 0, Kiwami, 3, 4, 5 now, then 6 in March 2018 and Kiwami 2 next year (hopefully).

I paid good money for this Dynex!
I don't know why I'm so excited for this, but I am. Crazy to think it's been 11 years since I played the original... and at the time, I wasn't even a huge fan due to the clumsy gameplay. This series has come a long fucking way.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!

The recap is an abridged video that summarizes the entirety of prior games. So expect to be spoiled obviously for Y1 and 2. It will greatly help give context to the relationships, clans, and certain characters though. The different game's all feature new villains and contained stories, but there are cameos, and lots of callbacks spread throughout you will miss out on or lack context for. Not a big deal if you only care about stopping the bad guys, but the inhabitants of this universe don't just disappear with each entry and part of the fun is all of the connective tissue.

That said, Yakuza 3 specifically is focused heavily on new cities and environments, so that particular game is just as much about Kiryu exploring a different area of Japan than he is accustomed. Makes it a bit easier to jump in freely, but the opening hours at the orphanage will be a bit confusing.

I wish my gamestop was doing one of those 9 pm releases but I have the digital version preordered too so I guess I'll be playing it tomorrow morning.

Hope everyone's enjoying Kiwami so far!

In November 2016, I travelled to Kabukicho, Tokyo to film a new documentary series comparing real-life Kabukicho Tokyo to the fictionalized Kamurocho Tokyo featured in the Yakuza series by Sega - Yakuza Locations Tour 2016 (龍が如く : 場所のツアー 2016)

In 2012, I filmed a documentary series, Yakuza Locations Tour 2012 to celebrate the release of the upcoming Yakuza 5 (Ryu Ga Gotoku 5). The documentary was met with overwhelming positive response from the fans and the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios team.

To celebrate my 5th year anniversary on YouTube, this is my tribute to the Yakuza franchise and the amazingly talented team at Sega. This video was a labor of love, made by a fan for the fans.

I also took the liberty of translating some of the Japanese VA/interactions of the game.

This is amazing. I'm watching it all

I got a review copy that I've been playing as much as I can, which isn't enough. It's a phenomenal game, and I pre-ordered a copy for my shelf to support the series.

God what a good game it is.

Never played Yakuza but always wanted to. Should I start with this or 0 first?
I'd suggest this as it's cheaper but you honestly can't go wrong either way (as long as you play both DAMN IT)

Here's what Sam Mullen, Senior Localization Producer at Atlus USA had to say about it.
Guys, the Y0 / Kiwami "which do I play first?" argument is silly.

There are narrative details and substories that have been added to Kiwami that follow up on things that happened in Y0. They aren't written in a "prequel" way in Y0, they are written in a sequel way in Kiwami. In other words, Y0 was the prequel to Y1, but Kiwami is sort of a sequel to Y0.

The official SEGA recommendation is you play Y0 then Kiwami.

Edit: And when I say silly, I mean "amusing".
