I have to say its pretty fascinating to see games which I thought all of GAF hated in the GAF GOTY , in particular Heavy Rain (which I have not played), and especially FFXIII (not played beyond the first two chapters

).

Seeing Alan Wake in the top makes me want to vomit, though. I want to play Heavy rain just so i can go on GAF's rooftops screaming that Heavy Rain has a better story than AW.

I think the situation with Heavy Rain is that there are a lot of objectively poor aspects to it and there are plenty of vocal posters to point them out. The people who liked the game can't possibly defend the massive plot holes, poor voice acting, etc.

And yet, those people that enjoyed the game still exist. Most of the comments were qualified with something along the lines of, "yeah, this game has a lot of problems" or "I would never play this again" (presumably due to the story problems), but also said they felt it was the right direction.

I personally disagree, but oh well.

It's safe to say there are a number of users that play all of the major PS3 exclusives and vote for them every year. But based on the results, at least this year, it's not ALL they are voting for.

Last year had a more dominant "Sony fan" vote. I think this year the PS3 was pretty weak overall, so it dispersed a lot.

a few impressions,

-top ten seems to have a lot of big name exclusives in it. RDR and Bayonetta are the only titles available on both HD consoles. Compared to most GOTY top 10 lists, Neo-Sony-Gaf seems to have a lot of influence.

-bravo for Black Ops being so low.

-Hot Pursuit is shamefully low for a Criterion racer.

-Civ V is surprisingly low.

Overall, it's a very respectable list.

I don't think they are obscure. Its just most people probably don't think of them as games of the year. I don't even think Umineko should be on the list since its a sound novel.

There's no doubt that there is quality stuff in there, but the same could be said of a lot of other games. That lead me to post that there was something more to it. I'm pretty sure that if 100 people played Alan Wake and Heavy Rain and were asked to pick which game they preferred the split between the two titles would be close to 50/50.
