Arcade Gaming OT | bemani still exists? #ThanksKonami!

Since individual arcade releases are usually too small to warrant their own thread, I thought I would make an OT dedicated to arcades / game centers in general.

I don't know much about outside-of-Japan arcades but I think Round1s in the USA are getting pretty competent with regards to having new releases, so the non-retro arcade discussion isn't Japan only anymore. Maybe the thread could also be useful if people are traveling somewhere and want to know if an arcade or "barcade" or whatever is good?
Or maybe no one will reply.

I'm not sure what "resources" would be good to put in the OT, but:

So sad there are no proper arcades in my city, only garbage "barcades"...
Going to an arcade after work for an hour or so every day was an amazing experience, I miss it so much.

I miss supporting the local arcade scene, great memories. Nowadays though, the best arcade is by me is... well, me!

Although last year I went to Vegas and it was fun going to some of the arcades that still existed in a few casino's, and of course, hitting up the Pinball HOF. That was impressive.

Next thing I plan on getting is a couple candies for the pad, but a supergun/RGB setup has been fun as hell.

I really enjoyed going to one of the arcades near my previous workplace during lunchtime when I worked there, since it was maybe 2 minutes away.

I mostly played Persona 4 Arena and Reflect Beat, because the former was the only fighting game where my win loss ratio against other people wasn't abysmal and the latter was my favorite arcade rhythm game.

Aside from that, I enjoyed some Groove Coaster from time to time and still play maimai/Taiko with my girlfriend whenever we go together.

Recently I've been going to arcades to play Dissidia, but at this point I think I've had enough and will just wait for the PS4 version.

Pics! Also I didn't know casinos had real arcades inside. Is it just mostly pinball and etc?

Pretty much all Otoge for me now.

Jubeat is still king, but I've been getting into Chunithm and Museca. The latter's mechanics seemed slightly wacky in the beginning, but by now I've come to enjoy it. Feels like a condensed version of Beatmania.

As Scott Pilgrim has taught us.

Looking forward to hitting up Akihabara in a month or so.

Can I still find stuff like Dance Evolution and DJ MAX Technika there?

Jubeat still dabest, but yeah otoge wise all I play is Chunithm now as well. Sometimes SDVX.

I tried Nostalgia at JAEPO and it was pretty fun.

Dance Evo yes, I haven't seen the latter in maybe 2 years. Fine with me!

In my case it's an experience of being totally destroyed, because she's been playing Taiko for years and I'm really bad at it. :(

My brother and I hit up Round1 just about every week last year. The place has gone through so many phases. In the beginning everybody and their mother checked it out. Then it quickly died down to a point I worried if it would stay in business. But then summer time hit and it was always busy, it was great.

Not a fan of the "new" (it's been a few months now) rhythm game they put in. The name escapes me at the moment, but it's a touch-screen game where arrows fly towards a point and you tap in time with the beat. I like Elite Beat Agents/Osu so I thought it may be fun. But my arms end up covering the incoming notes on harder charts, while easy charts just aren't fun with them all boiling down to tapping a 4/4 beat.

Some good music on it if you can get into it.

I keep telling you to play chunithm with me to train. Then you can show her......

Any good arcades I absolutely have to check out as a Bemani/rhythm fan? Will they be easy to find?

It looks like I'll be staying here, most likely:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Re...i-Shinagawa_Tokyo_Tokyo_Prefecture_Kanto.html

Hm I can't think of any arcades that stand out just for rhythm games. Basically everyone will have SDVX Jubeat Chunithm IIDX etc., and then it seems like the bigger they are the more stuff they include after that. The best rhythm game centric arcade that I regularly go to is probably Try tower.

Is it just arrows? It might be Beatstream?

After a Google on Round1 Rhythm Games, found someone say "Rev" and that kicked the name back into memory: Crossbeats Rev.

The one cool part about it is that there's an occasional Free Play if you scan your Aime card. So while I'm not a big fan, if it's open and doesn't seem too busy I can play without spending my credit.

Never seen a Beatstream machine, actually.

Edit: Beatstream looks a lot easier to follow than Crossbeats. Wonder if our R1 will ever get one in.

Magician's Dead looks pretty cool but I am cautious and will wait on how it handles movement and gameplay since they are targeting same audience as EXVS and Gunslinger Stratos.

Seeing how Dissidia is right now and how boring if that is the right term? compared to Gunsuto and EXVS I will wait to see how it polishes in the future.

No one cared about 5th KAC thread. No one care about jubeat or iidx.

Also please be respectful to machines unlike this asshole 3 weeks ago. RIP Project Diva. RIP Round One Yokohama (இдஇ)

Ah, I've never played Crossbeats Rev. Same with arcade Cytus. And do any Round1s have Beatstream? It's not that fun IMO but maybe people would like it. Surprised they bothered to get Museca since it doesn't seem that popular here.

Luckily I have no problems with winning with her at games she hasn't played before, like maimai. :p

When she suggests you two play chunithm, you'll regret this choice!!

I just saw the finger input thing at JAEPO but didn't get to watch the demo. Looks cool enough though, I trust Byking!
Was too distracted by that handsome af cosplayer

Dissidia is dissidia but I thought the same as you about it being boring lol. If you go into it like I did expecting it to be fast like EXVS then it's disappointing (I played the PSP games, I don't know why I thought it would be as fast as EXVS)

And lmao, miku nerd rage.

Last time I played Dissidia was a week or so after the release, but I think more than "boring" it's just that the battles are quite chaotic because of the 3 vs. 3 system and less strategic than Gundam EXVS for example, which makes it less fun to play after the hype wears off. I bet that it can be played strategically etc., but it doesn't seem to be there yet.

Like I said, I haven't been to an arcade in a while - are Dissida machines usually empty nowadays or are they still quite popular?

The arcade of choice down here is Arcade Odyssey. Not much aside from the usual suspects(DDR, Pump It Up Prime), but they do have a Fist of the North Star(that punch mania thing), Dance Maniax 2nd, and random niche fighters.

It is just that Dissidia just is not as polish with movement as EXVS even Gunslinger Stratos.

Moving in Dissidia is just not fun because the way movement is handle is not like sutekyan or fuwasute in EXVS and GS. Gunslinger Stratos is chaotic but at least it is good paced and it is fun to play unlike Dissidia.

Dissidia is still being play because it is relatively new and it is in Round Ones. Susukino Round One has a group playing. But really it is just people waiting for Gunslinger Stratos 3. Even players like Fuudo who play these kinds of games is hesitant about Dissidia because it just is not as balance or technical. I get that it is the first revision and will get better, but why play Dissidia when you can play something better.

I think the same way with Magician's Dead but at least Magician's Dead has a cool gimmick to it and it seems like something you want to try out.

My hometown game center recently installed Gunslinger Stratos 2 and Dissidia and they are putting up service starting this week. Was previously only at the Round One. They're getting Gunslinger Stratos 2 too before the 3 update. Likely some leftovers sent by Round One but still good to see them do well.

Closest real arcade for me is up in Austin, Arcade UFO and Pinballz. In San Antonio there's.. well Dave And Busters <ugh> and the last remaining Diversion's which is a shell of its former self. In its heyday there were about 4-5 of them around town and they were packed to the gills with fighting/shooting/DDR/5 key Beatmania etc.

Other than that, I have my MK2 cabinet converted to a 6 button set up with Vampire Savior.

I basically only go to the arcade if I'm on vacation, since the seaside touristic towns usually have something. There used to be one in my city, but it closed down a few years ago. It had Motor Raid (which is pretty much the only arcade motorbike racer I like) and some PIU cab. There also used to be a HOTD4 cab in one of the local malls, but it disappeared. What's left is Sega Rally, 2 pinball machines (Batman and Indiana Jones in their newish, Stern Pinball versions. The former felt... underpowered? Like the ball bounced less than I was used to. I haven't played pinball in a long time before that, though) and a bootleg TT Manx cab running an emulator.

Sadly, everything in the seaside arcades here seems disappear in favor of prize "games", even rhythm games. Except for racers/lightgun games, so at least I still get to play some Outrun 2/ HOTD2/Time Crisis 2.

Played Chunithm and Maimai when I was in Japan and I really liked them, especially Chunithm. Really wish Round1 could convince Sega to bring over Chunithm at least. I think it could be pretty big among casuals, like Museca surprisingly turned out to be, but considering Sega doesn't even want to put Diva in all of the R1s here, I don't have high hopes for it.

Supposedly there was a fight over Project Diva and someone's head got smashed into it.

Things like this happen, rarely, but they happen and I am grateful that most establishments and attendees at most places uphold a standard and don't tolerate it. I feel bad for Round One and the workers that had to deal with that.

Wow. I hope it can be fixed(and that the victim is okay).

Rhythm games are serious business, damn.

i mainly played maimai, reflec beat/jubeat/sdvx/IIDX when i was in korea and japan in 2010-2014.havent been there since then. i really miss the arcade in korea since it costs only third of what japanese arcades ask you. 300won(less than 30c€nt) vs.100yen(90c€nt).
ok there was no paseli, but who the fuck cares.
no matter how much i hate konami, they are still the king in arcades.

Hm if I knew they were that cheap in Korea I would have stopped by during a visit! By no paseli I assume you just mean for payment right? They still had emuse set up?

I hear the new Tekken makes you pay again even after a win.

I haven't heard that but sounds absurd if true? I can't really imagine them doing that.

Anyone try Closers? I was going to try it but I tried Wonderland Wars instead.
Closers? That MMO has an arcade game too?

I played the PC version during the beta, but wasn't impressed and got bored after 30 minutes.

No I mean I have no where else to ask here. I was just wondering if Closers is worth checking out out of the stuff Sega offers.

I saw add for it in a game center while I went to go play Wonderland Wars a while back and I was curious.

Also

my hometown game center is streaming their Guilty Gear weeklies right now.

They get 40-50 to show up for Xrd and other game regularly. They also do BBCF, P4U2, FCI, and UNIELst under the Season Battle series. if anyone interested in watching players there.

Did you like it? WW is one of the games I always see but never play. Along with school of ragnarok, border break, etc.

Though I have tried those other two, at least.

I don't play MOBA so I cannot really compare to something like dota2 or league of legend. At glace it is like 3D Tower Defense.

I thought the game was interesting and fun. play it couple times and if I make time I would go and check it out more in depth.

There is just so many things to play. Like fighting music lord of vermillion.

Finally a thread I can dive into.

I've been ecstatic about the Round 1 at south center mall here in seattle. Being a long time bemani player I actually feel grateful to finally experience the newer games that have come out. Seattle has been starved of IIDX for years. I mainly play DDR/ITG(oh god it's been 13 years already?!) A bit of Pump.

I'm mainly stoked about Gitadora Tri-Boost. I used to play drummania a lot at gameworks back in 2008-2010 but after the machine wasn't maintained and now with a horribly laggy LCD I stopped. I've always wanted to play the newer Drummania sets with the extra buttons so I've been all over that machine lol.

Thread title got me good lol.

The last few arcades I used to go to have been destroyed by hurricane Sandy :( not to mention the surviving arcades are like "ticket casinos" filled old ladies who can't play slots in the area.

I miss supporting the local arcade scene, great memories. Nowadays though, the best arcade is by me is... well, me!

Oh man the Pinball HOF was badass! Every great pinball machine in one place, even the regular arcade game selection was pretty good. Best part was that the machines took actual quarters, not tokens or prepaid cards.

Our last arcade around New Orleans was turned into a LAN place and has a moldering MVC2 in a dark corner along with some Multicade thing that I don't even know if it's legal or bootlegs. We have a Barcadia, but they tend to get rid of games rather than fix them, and after the original Killer Instinct left we're pretty much done with the place.

The arcade experience back in the 80s and 90s was something I was glad to be old enough to know but sad I'm old enough to miss.

The wife and I are going be flying to Seattle to check out the Round 1 there in about 2 months. Despite owning a few machines myself, I'm pretty pumped about going because it's probably been 2 years since I've played something in the current Bemani scene. I mainly want to play Gitadora Guitarfreaks, but I'm definitely interested in trying the newer titles such as SDVX. Anyone know if they are busy during the weekdays? Just wondering when the best time to go is to avoid having to wait for games.

They are one of the largest chains in North America still purchasing coin-ops at all, so that is good.

Also, about half of the locations will be getting NewDDR machines this summer, so there's that =)

If that DDR initiative costs us the local PIU cabinet that's been here for 15 years, I will not be happy.

Huh. I live in Seattle. Is this Round 1 thing really worth visiting?

Do they have IIDX?

Round1 is totally worth checking out. A good number of fighting, rhythm, and light shooter games (among plenty of other stuff like photo booths and ticket games) set up in an actual arcade. Credits aren't super cheap - expect each game to cost you at least a dollar - but for an occasional visit it's not bad.

As for IIDX, ours (Arlington, Texas) does, yeah. Two of them, actually. They were in immaculate condition for a loooong time, but recently the rubber was peeled off of the DJ spinners. A few weeks later, the same fate fell on the other machine. :/
Machine still works, but it's certainly not as comfortable as it was.

I hope the D&B close to me is getting new DDR so I can move beyond 13's.

That and the last passable arcade where I live closed recently, so my options are limited.
