Arcade Gaming OT | bemani still exists? #ThanksKonami!

smh. Maimai players also are the most likely to wear otoge-gloves. Confirmed kimoi gear.

Ahahah, I could be there for that. I'll be there until the 16th.

Are there any obscure rhythm games I should check out that are only in Japan/Asia, i.e. EZ2DJ or anything?

Hm don't know what counts as obscure. The most obscure thing I've ever seen was a video of Musibox with those piano keys but I've never seen it irl. Maybe it's like Taiwan only or something.

I heard they were loketesting here. I guess nothing happened.

But still, I'll take this.

They are, in like five cities. None of which are here. :/

Do you all agree with the sentiment that MT is too 'hardcore' for today's arcade market? That they don't want serious racing, just quick plays like Raw Thrills games?

Eh. MotoGP is an RT game that's serious. It can be done.

So if I understand it correctly, to curb piracy, manufacturers of new Japanese arcade machines are requiring an internet connection, and so, in additiont to the much smaller market, the large majority are unlikely to come to the US?

Is that the gist of it? Does it have to do with the card system as well?

Well, I can say just about all of them were using cards... not sure about online, though. Groove Coaster was definitely online, and I know the newer Pump cabinets are too. It works without one, though. (Not sure about Groove Coaster.)

Hmm.

This thread seems like it's leaning more toward current ゲームセンター discussion than that of retro arcades. Is there a thread that leans more in that direction?

When I say cards, I mean like those network
cards mentioned above, are we talking about the same cards?

I think it is supposed to be both, it's just that those are popular and the OP started the conversation on that note.

The only arcades around me are small ones in the casinos to distract the kids while their parents gamble, so you can imagine how little they care about them. Other than that there's two or three theaters with a handful of machines.

Never been to a Dave and Busters. What's the general feel? Does it just depend on the management or do they all pretty much pimp out the machines?

I didn't hear about round1 until this thread. They seem to care a bit more. Or at least that's the impression that I get

Yes, I mean like the Bananapass for Namco and E-amuse for Konami, etc.

D&Bs are hit and miss. Some are well maintained, some others not so much. They used to have a good balance of core gaming and redemption, but now most are going all in on the arcade-ios game fad with full size Flappy Bird cabinets and such.

I see. What a shame. Who will save us? I guess it's a niche that's just not that profitable

Yeah I'm always shocked when I see a giant Temple Run machine.

From what I've heard, it really isn't. Consoles killed the arcade scene here. It's still thriving in Japan, but not so much here. Even Maximum Tune just didn't bring in numbers anymore. Casual racing fans do, so you get lite versions like 'Dead Heat'(blech) instead.

I don't remember the last time I had to sign a waiting sheet to play a game that wasn't in a location test. Sega going to make ¥¥¥ from kancolle.

More whining, the wait times are out of control, and it's not just me complaining! Players aren't being given time limits and as long as you keep putting credits in there's no end time. That combined with the popularity is making this too difficult to play. My local arcade is basically empty before 7pm yet since the game released there are like 30+ people on waiting list before 9am, and each of those people are not at all in a rush.

Look up 無制限台 and be mad with me.
if I'm reading this right, then LOL

why would you ever
gunslinger stratos is like $20 for an hour, I know (but can't tell you how) that the max rate for premium free in IIDX is 1000p for 30m

who could have thought this was a good idea
at least make it 500円

That explains what that premium free thing is. Can you imagine the salt if they made DDR/PIU players in the US wait for someone with that kind of play enabled?

Technically it's up to the machine owner, you can set the time from 5? (I don't remember) minutes to 30 and the price scales automatically.

If you're a good enough player it's by far the best deal, as it lets you play anything without a concern of failing, and you can "game" the system and start songs with seconds left and still be able to finish them. It's a fine system, at least you know when your turn comes.

Also of note, GS had that hour option in during the recent loctest in cali, I know someone who played it. Clearly operators here are at least ok with it.

Even at 500 though, people would just play for extended periods without being told to leave. Even if you have the points that the game runs off of (GP) remaining, it still costs an actual credit to print a card, so people are paying way more than the initial play cost already anyway.

ArGhHhH.

Also they let people have an HOUR during a location test for GS? lol

Dang, you've got some patience. I'd never get to try a game if it meant waiting for anything past half an hour.

Not heard anything on branching to Canada, but I haven't kept up with where R1 is/will be since last year. I believe there was a thread on GAF some time back that had the next month's expansion plans, could probably search for that (I'm on Mobile, otherwise I'd try and find the link).

They have a credit limit for kancolle arcade now lol. 900 GP at my local place is still too high, its like 30+ minutes per person.

I can't remember the last game I've seen in an arcade to generate lines like that, only dance games come anywhere close.

I hope you were shooting for google/10, because that's gold.

Goddamn that line, get ready for token rabu(or whatever it's called idr) arcade. Gotta get the fujo's too.

I wonder how the android app is doing. I can't imagine an arcade game, though it would be funny.

The lines are indeed crazy but it's *a bit* inflated because of a. limited machines and b. the time limit issue. I mean I've seen crazy lines when Full Boost was new, but a single arcade might have like 16 machines and when people lose a match they leave. Having like 6 machines and people getting 30+ minutes at each is the problem here.

I've legit just given up on playing it for now lol.

Jesus Christ how horryfing.

Also, at 1:23 there's a headphone out, but I originally thought it's a mobile phone icon instead of the volume slider and that's it's going to be for syncing to the mobile version via NFC or something - for bonuses to either of them to incentivise playing both versions.
Guess if there was something like that, it would be done with online accounts anyway?

I saw on my news feed earlier and noticed that Dissidia has found a pretty big fanbase and home for female gamers, and a lot of events are held at female arcades.

For a while now Tekken has been he big game that have had a really strong, active female community and Bandai Namco did work to help foster their community.

Community members like September do a ton of work to bring in new fans and help run workshops and times for women to come and feel confident and play the game for their events on their own time. They kick ass and

Despite all the issues I have with Dissidia as a competitive game, it's cool to see another game find a new niche.

Other than music games like maimai those two seem to be the more popular games amongst female gamers at game centers.
