Nintendo News: Consumers to Discover New Ways to Play During Nintendo 3DS Demo Tour

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--From augmented-reality games to rich 3D visuals that don’t require special glasses, the Nintendo 3DS™ system offers a wealth of new hand-held experiences that must be seen to be believed. To give consumers a firsthand look at these unique features, interactive Nintendo 3DS Demo Pods and mobile Nintendo 3DS Demo Squads will be in select U.S. cities starting March 11, offering sampling opportunities at more than 40 locations in cities nationwide. Visitors are invited to explore the system’s built-in software and play upcoming games, all in advance of the March 27 launch date.

The Nintendo 3DS system includes built-in cameras that let users not only take 3D photos but also incorporate their own likenesses and surroundings into fun games, including the hilarious shooting game Face Raiders™ and compelling AR Games™ such as Archery. Nintendo 3DS Demo Pod visitors who create a Mii character can commemorate the experience by uploading their Mii character to their Facebook pages and sharing their creations with friends and family via e-mail from an on-site computer.

Offering an extraordinary chance to experience these new games and features in-person, Nintendo 3DS Demo Pods are scheduled to appear at the following locations:

Ta-da America.

YESSSS. I live on the same subway line as Grand Central Terminal - will check this out tomorrow or another day this weekend.

No Resident Evil?
Lame.

I can only assume that NoA didn't want any kids getting their hands on an M-rated game, and weren't willing to set up a separate age-restricted corner of these pods. Sigh.

Sweet in 4 locations super far away from me and the Game Stop demo stations only are 2 days away from launch :D

Seriously screw this, just give Game Stop the demo units already!

Here's the complete press release. For those complaining about the paucity of locations, note the bolded.

It's time NoE announces something similar. :I
The UK has already had a tour. Although having said that, the demo booth I attended (Edinburgh) was really poorly set up. The demos of SFIV3D, Monkey Ball and Kid Icarus were all ridiculously close to the overly-bright blue lights making it pretty much impossible to see the 3D effect. Same with Ocarina as well iirc. Pretty shocking that they haven't started an extensive tour of Europe though. Was a real eye opener for me realizing that, as a lefty, Kid Icarus is a complete no-go and that playing it in the dark and entering out into daylight feels like I've been punched in the eyes.

i'm seriously tempted now to avoid looking at a 3DS before i get mine. let mine be the first one i see... i think i can last a little over two weeks.

Wouldn't it be more effective to just drop a single 3DS demo unit in a whole bunch of Best Buys/Gamestops/Walmarts?

Hell, put it behind glass running 3d trailers if you want. Just get it out in front of people and show that it really works.

That might explain why I had problems making it out. Maybe I'll try again in Gamestation sometime...

I'm guessing that is step 2. Here in the UK Gamestation and GAME stores have one unit per store (not quite all stores yet, its kept behind the counter so the staff will show it off to you so different to other Kiosks).

I guess the theory is I went to the thing to play the 3DS is more of a tlaking point as Walmart had a 3DS...oh you too.

Only 4 cities?

Why not Houston...we are the 4th largest city by population in the country...

>_>;

Also, they decided to have Olivia Munn play the 3DS and put it on their website.

Ugh, you're right, she is playing 3DS on their site.

I find it hilarious that there are these B and C list celebrities who have all these channels of making money that i never even consider. Olivia Munn gets thousands of dollars for playing 3DS, Whitney Cummings (comedian) was paid to do some inane web series for Lexus, etc.

No Southeast in the listed cities sucks, and the 40 cities part doesn't make me feel that much better. This is something that everyone says needs to be seen to be believed - why isn't Nintendo in every large mall in America? This is something they did for example to sell DS and Wii software just this last holiday. Maybe they are worried about driving up demand too much with limited supply, but they've got to strike while the iron's hot. It just comes across as appearing over arrogant and lazy, especially considering how apathetic Western developers are to handhelds not made by Apple.

YES I can play it next week. Are they ever going to put 3DS kiosks in stores? It comes out in like three weeks and I've seen zero advertising for it anywhere.

They COULD put 3DS kiosks in stores but I'm afraid it could one of those "look, but don't touch" ones they did for DSi XL. D:

Wish they were in more cities but in just those four places they'll have a ton of foot traffic. Especially in NYC.

But a kiosk like that actually seems somewhat reasonable for the 3DS, since the biggest thing about it is seeing: "Holy crap! That's 3D and I'm not wearing glasses!"

How do they not do it at Nintendo World, and instead they do it at Grand Central? It sounds like the store is useless...

Well, I've never been to Grand Central, so I guess it's a good chance to check it out.

Many GameStop stores will be getting them, but no earlier than the 24th.

Aww, I used to work right down the street from the Citigroup Center. Oh well, guess I'll have to just wait 2.5 weeks until I have my own.
