Time for another top 10 list.

Here is how it works:
choose what you think are the top 3 meltdown moments in GAF History (only gaming side), order them by importance.

ie:

How Votes will be counted
number 1 will get 3 points

OP has the first two that came to my mind. The wiimote reveal was pretty bad.

The XIII betrayal has to be my favorite though because it resulted in a meltdown so ridiculous it still gets quoted here any time anyone thinks a meltdown is coming. You could have gotten the best writers in the world to write that post and they still wouldn't have come up with such a finely crafted piece of irrationality. It was meltdown art.

I don't understand why Dragon Quest IX being released on a Nintendo platform was such a huge event. Looking at Wikipedia, the main series is largely a Nintendo-based franchise, with PlayStation platforms playing host to just the seventh and eighth entries; presumably due to Sony "winning" both generations. Developing Dragon Quest IX - a 2009/2010 release - for the DS game makes perfect sense considering the series has historically made a home for itself on the highest-selling consoles.

It's almost unthinkable now to imagine that people could be upset by it going multiplatform, but back then it was thought of as an intrinsically Playstation franchise. This is of course laughable since its earliest entries graced Nintendo platforms exclusively, and iirc some of the PS ones got PC ports. Nevertheless, console fanboys had total meltdowns over this. It was Square BETRAYING sony! Now they had one less exclusive and the PS3 might have been doomed as a result! The sky is falling!

people were expecting it for the ps2 or the wii, or maybe even the ps3. and then it was announced for none of the above: the ds. handhelds just don't get main game installments (unless that's where they originate). it's another reason why monster hunter 4 came as a surprise.

It's not hyperbole, it's not fanboy drivel. It is LITERALLY it for PS3. Sony has nothing left, nothing they can reveal tomorrow would fix the hole now created. There is no reason left for any one, hardcore or casual, to substantively invest in a PS3. Except if they want to play MGS4. Which will also come to 360 at some point.

The age of Sony is done.

X broke that mold though. Surprisingly that wasn't a meltdown thread. We knew it was for Wii, but the revelation it was also an MMO coming to Wii-U was new.

I think it's because it was undeniable confirmation that Nintendo, through the DS, was the "winner." This was obvious to anyone paying attention, but not to crybaby fanboys who were waiting for their superior Sony products to regain their rightful place at the top. Never underestimate the power of blind loyalty and fanboyism.

Also, no mainline DQ game had ever gone to a handheld before, so it was a pretty big deal.

Yeah, the shock and awe derived from a mainline entry forgoing a home console for a portable platform is something I can understand.

yea, that's a turning point for many people, we could no longer put in trust on these studios to keep to their words.
