Square Enix take their second All Formats No1 in 2014 as ‘Thief’ takes top spot.

Developed by Eidos Montreal it smashes the week 1 of predecessor ‘Thief: Deadly Shadows’ last seen on Xbox & PC in 2004. It also achieves the second highest sales for a No1 title in 2014 behind FIFA 14 with 75% of those sales coming for Xbox One & PS4. ‘The Lego Movie Videogame’ (-33%) drops to No2 after two weeks at the top but stays ahead of ‘FIFA 14’ (-15%) which drops to No3.

Another debutant lands at No4 this week as ‘Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare’ arrives for both Xbox One & 360. It pushes ‘Call of Duty: Ghosts’(-36%) down to No5 while the third of EA’s Top 10 titles ‘Battlefield 4’ (-17%) also slides two places to No6. Konami’s ‘Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2’ is another newcomer this week creeping in at No10 and becoming the second biggest week 1 in the franchise behind the original Lords of Shadow which released in 2010. Elsewhere in the Top 40 Bandai Namco’s ‘Tales of Symphonia: Chronicles’ is new for PS3 at No13 while 3DS title ‘Senran Kagura Burst’ sneaks in for a debut at No38.

Rayman Legends finally charted for X1, so that's something I guess.

France best EU country confirmed!

The PS4 stock situation is dire. Sony says it should stabilise in April but I doubt it. I can see the thirst having legs until summer at least.

The good thing is they should refresh supply by the release of Infamous which I think will do pretty well, especially the bundle.

Considering the PSN price drop, I would expect it to sell better than previous weeks...but the disc versions to sell worse because they are more expensive than it is on PSN.

That seems obvious considering the X1 price drop in many retailers and PS4 being out of stock.

And the software charts show it. The majority of people that buy FIFA, BF4 and COD are people buying a console and the X1 software sales of that titles were better than PS4.

Don't think we have numbers for Europe so maybe he's saying that because the positions in the charts... (and I know that doesn't reflect good sales per se).

Seeing the disaster sales in Japan it'll be a while until it becomes a million seller WW (unless it sells gangbusters in the next NPD but I doubt it).

It's a shame because it's a damn fine game but Wii U is poison for all its software.

It launched at second position in Japan. But it didn't do so great.

So many people bought that crappy Thief game. Guess the software drought is hitting some people hard. At least this month some good games should start charting again.

France is pretty much the only place in the world where the Wii U does ok outside of the holidays, and that's still stretching the definition of ok. It shouldn't be that surprising that it was first when it was the only notable release that week. In the UK it's done in line with other smaller games like Pikmin 3 or Wind Waker HD. US numbers next week will be more telling.

Curious PS3 version of Castlevania sold better than 360 version. Was it already the case for 1st episode?

It seems that way. And you have to wonder about the future of the Wii U if even the usual evergreen Nintendo titles don't sell on the console.

It debuted at number 1 in germany and a couple of other eu contries last week as well afaik.

It charted as no. 1 in France and Germany in the launch week. No. 4 in Uk, no. 1 in Sweden, no. 2 in Norway. I know what you are going for, but that's the best it can do on Wii U. Europe being also the worst region for Wii U hardware sales.

Edit: it even entered the top 10 in Australia, that's unprecedented.

I *know* Thief - like many of Eidos' titles - *will* drop in price fairly quickly, but I just had to purchase it on release, and am certainly not disapointed. Just reaffirmed why I disagree with general review sites all-round.

Until we have some numbers (maybe from Nintendo 4th quarter report), these charts are the best information we have. Unless you have numbers for France and Germany.

Next gen accounting for 75% of Thief sales. The market moved on fast. Silly people in a recent thread actually thought Destiny would sell best on 360. lol
