'The Lego Movie Videogame’ kicks ‘FIFA 14’ (-3%) off the top of the All Formats Chart to become the 6th different Lego game to reach No1, the last one being ‘Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes’ back in W29 2012.

Launched to coincide with the release of the film, Warner’s title sells 15,000 more units this week than the price-promoted ‘Call of Duty: Ghosts’ (+23%), which just holds on to No2 ahead of newcomer ‘Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XXIII’ at No3. ‘FIFA 14’ has to settle for 4th place, ahead of even more price-promoted titles: ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (+47%) at No5 and ‘Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’ (+47%) at No8. There are two Lego games in the Top 10 this week with ‘Lego Marvel Super Heroes’ (+16%) dropping one place to No6 (joined by a new DS version).

‘Battlefield 4’ (+4%) remains EA’s 2nd best selling title this week, a non-mover at No7, while the Top 10 is rounded off with the seemingly ever-present ‘Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition’ (-4%) at No9 and ‘Fable Anniversary’ (-56%) at No10. 1/8th of the Top 40 is made up of Lego titles with 5 different Lego games charting this week (the others being: ‘Lego Batman 2’ at No19, ‘Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga’ at No 22 and ‘Lego The Lord of the Rings at No27).

Holy shit, LEGO: The Movie: The Game: Origins looks like a 360 system seller!

Dire performance for the 3DS version.

Supply issue again?

Out of stock again yeah. Don't think many bundles got stocked either checking that thread, kept having Solus restocked more than anything. Knack left to die with that situation.

Wii U version of Lego The Movie selling more than 3ds version is a surprise. The 3ds owners in UK just don't buy games.

I find the Vita top 5 interesting this week:

1 Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc
2 Toukiden: The Age Of Demons

3 FIFA 14
4 Killzone: Mercenary
5 The LEGO Movie Videogame

New entries bolded. Hardcore demographic confirmed.

If you think that's bad, look how the Vita one did! It didn't even do well in the Vita-sphere, it was number 5 - FIVE - in the Vita only charts. Slightly amazingly, Vita's 1 and 2 are Danganropa and Toukiden. Good taste!

EDIT: BEAT! Vita may come to rest in a groove where it is sustained only with Japanese imports and indies. Actually... I think I'd be ok with that!

Difference being that the 3DS was the best selling hardware in the UK last year, and pitches to a much younger demographic.

Nope.

29th & 31st in the Value chart.

Yeah, of course. I think people value the split-screen co-op too much to buy this series on handhelds. Anecdotally, I know a lot of people who play it this way. Plus, aren't the handheld versions usually cut down? Not sure if this is the case for the new one.

Excuses, excuses. It bombed on both platforms.
You can't possibly be serious. Yes, it bombed on both platforms. Only one is a real surprise though.

The handheld versions have always been horribly gimped, especially on Vita. I don't think there's a DS SKU this time so it might not be so bad.

How have previous Lego games performed on the 3DS? That would tell us if it is a surprise.

LCU did fine IIRC. Certainly much better than the Wii U version.

Remember, the 3DS was the best selling hardware last year, and the Wii U and Vita were the worst. There's no way the 3DS version should be that far down the charts. Outperformed by the Wii U, no less. 3DS owners in the UK just don't buy software in proportion with other systems.

For the PS4 versions of multi-plats to debut as high as they do shows there much be a fair few consoles out there and good attachment rates as well. It is competing with consoles that have been available for over 20 times longer after all.

The way Ghosts is selling is quite saddening.

Oh I am not doubting that software sales on the 3DS are way lower than they should be. LCU I think is harder to compare as it was an exclusive title to the Wii U and 3DS.

Did the Lego Marvel Superhero game chart?

MS must be counting down the days until they can start releasing TitanFall adverts.
The release week for that game is going to be very interesting indeed.

It's out of stock pretty much everywhere. Weaning off air shipments and stockpiling for the Japanese launch has definitely been tough for Sony. I still think they bit off more than they can chew by launching in so many territories. I'm not saying they should have taken the MS route and had only a few launch territories, but skipping out on Asia, India, Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Middle East until after April this year would allow for an extra 0.3-0.4m to be shipped to Europe and the US. I don't believe that launching in these countries later would have had any real effect on their sales.

Wtf really? That's insane I thought supply had levelled out more in the UK despite what you hear on Gaf.

Looking on Amazon it looks like smaller retailers have the odd PS4's in stock, but indeed Amazon's stock is back-ordered til 18th March.

That was certainly unexpected.

A week ago almost everybody would have bet The Lego Movie Videogame was going to top the Vita chart. Lego did horrible but Danganropa much better than expected, it is without a doubt the nice surprise of the week. Of course, it is true that its sales are very low (this is PS Vita), but being able to enter into the all formats top 40 (#29) by value is already an achievement. We are talking about a title that is the nichest of the niche distributed by a very small publisher in Europe (NIS America).

Cross-posting, credit to wotta. Info about NZ sales, a little break from the regularly scheduled UK discussion.

http://www.justpushstart.com/2014/02/ps3-ps4-sales-dominate-new-zealand/
-PlayStation is the number one interactive entertainment brand in 2013
-PlayStation 4 takes lead in next generation consoles
-PlayStation 3 biggest selling platform for 2013
-PlayStation largest brand in portable consoles

I think the last point is actually kinda weird, i.e. that PSP and PSV are still alive enough to outsell the 3DS. Although we're probably in very low numbers in any event.

Wow, that is weird because I've seen more 3DS than PSV and PSP around Uni and primary schools etc.

But yeah, the demand in NZ is huge for PS4 like the rest.

I will never understand the love for the Lego video games.

As far as licensed kids properties go, there's not much of that quality. In fact, outside of Nintendo, there aren't many games for kids these days at all, so it's no surprised that the Lego games get lapped up. They also have universal appeal due to their humour.

I think the franchise has been milked to hell though, even before this movie iteration. But they still keep selling, so it's no surprise they keep making them. I would love to see TT make something else again though, but I don't think they would have survived the last few years without the success of their Lego games.
31 (29) 360 ALIENS: COLONIAL MARINES (SEGA)

Universally panned game beats next gen

35 (22) XBO FORZA MOTORSPORT 5 (MICROSOFT)
36 (15) XBO TOMB RAIDER: DEFINITIVE EDITION (SQUARE ENIX EUROPE)

Kinda sad for all the wrong reasons
It's just bargain bin sales. Look at actual revenue and you'll see the reverse.

Don't worry Square, Lighting is a hugely popular FF character, more so than other popular FF characters, surely these sales justify pushing her in every game going forward.

Cross-posting, credit to wotta. Info about NZ sales, a little break from the regularly scheduled UK discussion.

This needs to be in a new thread. So that we can bury that stupid NZ PS4-not-sold-out meme propagated by occonomiyaki once and for all.
