Titanfall Beta Players: Is "Revolutionary" and "Game Changer" accurate?

Got tired and hated CoD after a lot of MW4 and Blops1 and stopped caring after.

I think Titanfall is a nice and refreshing in it's own way. Definitely going to pick this up. Nothing revolutionary but definitely something to keep an eye out for in the FPS genre for now.

Doesn't feel fresh to me. I seriously wonder how much hype it would get if it didn't have EA's marketing muscle behind it. It's not a bad game by any means and I'll probably still buy it, but it's been way overhyped.

The Beta applications thread is 3 times bigger than our beloved NPD thread, even the Impressions thread is bigger. According to my Gaf calculations....

Yes, it is a gamechanger.

Lol

Sounds like you haven't played. It's a very good-looking game, and it plays amazingly tight.

ehhhh "very good-looking" is pretty subjective. This game looks like hot garbage to me, but then again I play BF4 on highest settings on PC so most stuff looks like hot garbage to me.

Revolutionary? No way

Game Changer? Absolutely.

Evolutionary yes, game changer maybe... This is what Near Future warfare should have been.

In my opinion this is where Infinity Ward wanted to take COD after Mw2 and Activision wouldn't let them.

It is a really fun 30 second loop and nothing can be taken away from that.

As its been said over and over, revolutionary? Nah.

Game-changer? Eh, maybe.

Best fun in an FPS in years, probably CoD4? Hell yeah it is.

I'm playing on PC and have hit nearly max level. This game also convinced me to get an Xbox One, since I want to play with my friends. New to PC gaming so not too many people on here, 9 years on XBL and tons of buddies... This is a game to party up and dominate. Can't wait until the 11th

One more thing I want to add:

The map design is genius! Seriously, this blows COD Ghosts out of the water. The way they accommodated for verticality and fluid movement is amazing.

Game Changer? Absolutely.
As I said earlier, such terms are best describing something that has run it's course and we can see its fruit...for the same reason you don't call an athlete just turning pro a future Hall of Famer.

If Titanfall is a game changer or revolutionary at all, we will see seeds of it in future FPS titles in years to come. Unless someone has access to a time machine to go into the future, return and report the state of FPS games in 2016 to us, we really have no way of knowing if Titanfall's styling a and approaches will resurrect and repopularize the long-dead (to the masses) fast twitch, high mobility shooter...or if it will be its own self-contained vacuum of success that nobody else attempts to mimic the concepts of.

The only real answer to the question posed is: we'll see. Right now it's a good game that should prove to be quite popular. It does a lot of really cool things and has a lot of cool ideas. Whether it starts a trend is anyone's guess.

Neither. Lots of fun but not $560+ worth of fun. Once the XBO drops in price and has a larger library, then I would think it would be worth it at a lower price point.

Still, it will definitely sell some systems but not sure if it will be enough to overtake the #1 spot in NPD a a global sales for March and onward.

This game can't be a game changer and appeal to any form of audience that made COD popular, so there's no way it can be either.

That doesn't mean it won't be successful, but don't mistake this but anything but a "safe" game.

Titanfall 2 will be the real answer.

Wow. Fanboys want this game to fail so badly. I can't wait to see what they have to say when the review scores and sales blow up next month.

Disagree about Titanfall 2 being the real answer.

What defines a game changer? I would think the FIRST installment would be more responsible for change than a sequel.

Also, yes I believe it will be a game changer. I firmly believe you will see many people switching from Call of Duty to Titanfall as their multiplayer game of choice. I call that a game changer.

Tried it yesterday - it is quite fun, but I do not see nothing revolutionary and I am not sure if this deserves full price tag.

So anyone who doesn't think this game is revolutionary and game changing is a fan boy who wants it to fail? Got it.

Well how do you judge a price tag?

Hours you play? If so, then I really don't get the big deal about being multiplayer only. COD typically has a 5-7 hour single player campaign. I enjoy it but never play it again. Multiplayer is where hundred of hours are spent.

Not necessarily but if they don't admit it's a lot of fun AND better than the recent call of duty's, they probably haven't played it

Titan Fall is a good game but "Revolutionary" no, "game changer" I really can't say but more than likely no. If Titan Fall is a game changer then just about every FPS will have us double jumping and running on walls because every dev will think if Titan Fall was successful doing it then so should we.

As someone who thinks TF will be very successful... those 2 things don't necessarily translate into a gigaton.

TLoU had ridiculous amounts of 10/10s, a crazy amount of marketing/hype as well... and it only sold 4+ million to date on a console with 80m install base. Last I recall, the NPD console lead for that month still belonged to 360. It took GTAV PS3 bundle to dethrone the 360 product lead, which was a minimal lead at best.

These kind of things take time and brand building, especially for a new IP. CoD, BF, GTA and Elder Scrolls didn't jump to their insane sales numbers in one game.

Is the beta missing content?
We don't even know what the total amount of content will be. They've been hush-hush on it which has led some to worry about a low number of maps. Assuming they're not total dicks and ship with less than a dozen and offer some more game mode variety I'd venture there's probably "enough" for your typical fan of shooters to enjoy for $60. On more weapons/mechs/etc? No one knows on that, either. I'd argue it can be both good and bad that we haven't learned more this close to release.

Fun game? Yes, to a degree. Revolutionary? Absolutely not but it will be treated like it is just due to the people making it and their target audience. It's not doing anything ground-breaking and it's not the best MP game to ever grace gamers, but it's just easy fun that people will enjoy. Plenty of people will find it stunning and a game-changer and that's fine because it's made for them.

I have a few problems with the game that has me undecided even though it's a lot of fun at the moment. I question how long the fun will last because it's SO INCREDIBLY EASY which makes it similar to COD in that regard. It's very easy to dominate and there's not too many close matches right now and to me, that could end the fun since I like a challenge and this game is designed to make anyone and everyone feel like a badass, from the way the guns handle to the bots just asking to be killed (or farmed). I mean, you have a handgun that basically does the work for you which is extremely easy to farm bots to get a Titan but it's also pretty handy against pilots if they don't see you and engage first so it's meant to accommodate every gamer. The combat seems very repetitive which I hope will change with more options in the full game but it seems like the same old tricks just with more movement now. The graphics are nothing special either but I didn't expect them to be even though it's a shame since it's a new generation with plenty of optimistic people waiting to be wowed by games.

There's things I love about the game such as bringing movement back to MP gaming (old-school PC gamers rejoice) but there's a lot that just makes it feel like the same old MP game where the same old tricks work and the people that love COD year after year will be infatuated with this due to the changes, but the core designs are still very similar.

It's just how I feel about it though. It seems to be going after the mainstream COD crowd and casual gamers and will be a great success, but that doesn't mean every FPS gamer will love it just because it sells a shitload. I find it a fun way to pass the time, but will that last? Will they have enough legs and variety of gameplay to keep the gaming going for most people? I sure hope so. Hell, I'm still worried about the other maps since we know how their map design has been in the past at IW so I hope they picked up some new level designers along the way.

No matter what though, this game will be talked about so much that it's undoubtedly already a success and will move SOME consoles, but I don't think this will magically change the game for MS like the one thread was so sure of by comparing it to a game it shouldn't have been compared to. If a game is hyped up enough, it will do well no matter what anyway and since this is familiar gameplay to millions of gamers and is also being hyped up as the big next-gen game, it's a guaranteed blockbuster. I can see why people will like it.

The end. People need to stop labeling people as fanboys for their opinions on the game though. Not everyone is that spiteful and argue over a trivial made-up console war, especially when there's other platforms to play it on. If you call people that don't like it fanboys, is it right for them to assume you only "like it" because you want it to help MS? A ludicrous assumption that does nothing. If people like it, fine. If people don't, fine. Some people have different tastes and all. I get if you like it, but you should understand if others don't without resorting to the fanboy term.

Edit: Looks like someone made my last point pretty relevant with his "fanboy" bullshit...Instead of discussing things, let's resort to stupid terms that you could probably be labeled as! :D

just played like 10+ games with some buddies it was pretty fun. notice a lot of snipers/shotguns not much as far as smg or ar's go. burn cards seemed interesting I respawned right on top of some dude who killed me and tore him up.

played mixed modes i like the domination style one the best attrition just seems like super safe bot farming into mass titan and repeat

I think the titan cooldown is pretty short honestly its really really easy to get it out quick.

all in all its much like the CoD games where I could see me and my buddies playing for a month or two and moving on. did anyone else notice people refuse to use voice chat? maybe im just spoiled by planetside but communication would be nice.

So people have to admit that (even if they don't agree with it) or they're fanboys? What kind of messed up logic is that dude? You realize people have different preferences, right?

I really can't wait wait for this game to come out so this can finally be settled. The game will sell very, very well but it won't turn the X1's fortunes for more than a week or two. We've seen time and time again with the Wii U and PS3 that one game won't change a consoles sales for long. I don't understand why everyone expects Titanfall to be the exception

Having that tutorial was a disaster, and drained me when I got the main beta. The game itself was in general boring in a way, it worked game design wise but it just felt really bland and nothing special, a bit rough.

With amount of stuff that you get for it - number of maps, play modes etc. I can see this getting DLC is matter of weeks after release.

16 maps. "Campaign multiplayer" mode and more Titan variants (which are kinda accesbile in the beta tbough wild cards).

The beta alone has eaten up about 15 hours for me.

Only thing I am worried about not getting is more primary weapons, but I think we will get those too.

EDIT: Will admit the games not perfect though.

Too early to tell. Definitely not revolutionary though. I can't believe that is even being asked. There are a lot of things I dont like about it, but it is refreshing to play a shooter that is different enough from COD these days

I'm just hoping the various weapons serve a purpose and the game doesn't turn into another SMG and shotgun steady-aim brawl where those guns can kill you so fast that it's pointless to use anything else. The one map is an indicator that some range and aiming is useful so I just hope there's more like that.

There's no point in having a lot of weapons if it just comes down to two different types.

Yes I realize people have different preferences. I still stand by "probably haven't played it". The logic is that the general consensus finds it to be a fun game.

Edit: I just find it VERY hard to believe someone would think Call of Duty Ghosts is better than Titanfall. This is coming from someone who even paid for the season pass of Ghosts. I regret that decision. Once Titanfall comes out, I will probably not play Ghosts again.

I don't think we heard the maps aside from the cboat leak which was really weird and completely wrong about the texture stuff.

I saw some HEAVY shotgun use in my games just run around parkouring and just shotgun/melee first thing you see.

Respawn didn't deny the map count, though. I really hope that one is true. Already spent 10+ hours on the first 2! I'm in love with this game.

What aspects that are in the final game do you think would change anyone's perspective on this specific question? All the foundation is there to make a fair assessment on this score. It may be the most fun game ever made, but it ain't revolutionary and it ain't a game changer.

If it's just a multiplayer death, atch shooter as advertised...yep. I'll need to see more about the campaign multiplayer toasts final judgement. I mean it's awesome fun but I can't see myself paying $60 for just deathmatch and CTF variants now that I've gotten my fill out of the beta.
