Xbox One February update is rolling out

Nope, energy saving. Does the update only trigger if you have your console in standby?

Shockingly bad design choice if that's the only way to get an update on the X1.

Seems like it? I swtiched to standby and got it (the next day), so not sure if I would have gotten it without it. I always turn my console off completely and I hope the update does trigger no matter what.

Ugh, guess I'll put it into standby if it doesn't trigger by tomorrow. Terrible that that's the only way to trigger firmware updates on the X1.

It wasn't the case for the frist two updates though. Would be nice to get some clarification from Albert or the Major.

That's a very good point. We definitely need clarification on this, I don't really like the of having to put my console into standby just to get firmware updates going forward.

Yeah. I got the update, the date it was out by switch from Energy Saving to Stand by, turning it off, noticed the router's light all crazy so it was downloading something. Took a shower, returned and noticed the green light of the power supply was orange, so it downloaded the update. Turned it on, was greeted with a green bar, update finished, back to Energy Saving.

Got the new update and can't shut down my Xbox One with voice controls anymore. :(

'Xbox Turn Off' still triggers the confirm dialog. However, my Kinect doesn't want to respond to my 'Yes' confirm command anymore. I tried thousands of times, it just doesn't go. 'No' works fine by the way.

Really not kidding, my Kinect just refuses to shut down the Xbox One.

I know you aren't kidding because mine has the same issue now. Why the word yes no longer works is mind boggling. I guess they didn't test the update because they had to rush it out for the Titanfall beta.

It can be that MS puts consoles that aren't in the instant-on mode in the last wave.

Basically what I've done with every update so far. Worked every time. Still it shouldn't be necessary to disable the energy saving mode just to get an update early.

Update gives me strict NAT. Any ideas how to get it open? Xbox One is hooked via ethernet.

Before the update: I had my Xbox connected to the internet via ethernet, but my router's Wifi was on for my phone. This setup gave me a strict NAT and I'd have to turn the Wifi off, power cycle, and then the NAT would open. I used this same setup when I had a 360 and the NAT was always open even with Wifi on.

After update: The NAT is strict even with the Wifi off and power cycling. All ports are still open. I even reset the router and reopened the ports but I can't get the NAT off strict.

Router is old Linksys WRT54GL

And for what it's worth, my PS4 is open no matter my router setup.

It's available first for stand by... If you use energy saving the prompt to update only pops until a later (not announced yet I think) date.

Alllllrighty, just had the weirdest deal. After the update my xbox returned to its normal dash and I jumped into Forza. However, it would just stay on the title screen with an infinite loading loop. Quit out and tried some KI and that loaded but there was no sound. My Kinect also seemed to be blinking.

Restarted the whole console and now everything is back to normal. Some freaky shit though.

Had a lost video problem. Audio was fine and the console is still responsive (could hear all the usual navigational sounds), just had a blank screen. : |

Hard reset (hold down power button for 5 seconds) got video back.

This has happened to mine before the update. I'm not sure why but I recalibrated it and it's worked fine since.

That was a good router back in the day but it's time to update

And the update just wrecked my Kinect. Anything needing the Kinect (i.e. Xbox Fitness, which is about all i use my XB1 for anyway) and it goes into a 30-second power loop, where it repeatedly will flash to the "your Kinect isn't plugged in!" error page 2 - 3 times a minute. Multiple power cycles and unplug/replugs have gotten it to where the Kinect will work for about 5 minutes, then it hard crashes Xbox Fitness (or Just Dance) to the dashboard.

Just got off the phone w/ tech support, apparently it's a common enough issue they're sending me another Kinect right away and I can just send them back my current Kinect in the box they send the new one in.

You think after 2 RRoDs on the 360 and 2 bricked Zunes (one arrived dead in box, the other bricked by a firmware update) i'd have learned my lesson r.e. MS and consumer hardware... but I guess not.

I had that happen to me a few hours ago; got me a little worried. I'm starting to like the Xbox One, but the machine feels a little fragile. Damn, why can't they make systems like the Dreamcast - that thing was a rock. Nintendo also makes rock solid hardware.

So, now that update is out, does it bring new perspective on new features you guys want?

Since the console now gives access directly to your save data, it would be nice if it exposed some sort of version control, so in case a file got corrupted, or accidently deleted, you could still recover it from a selected time frame.

Regarding save data too. Why does the bone waits until the app is opened to sync it? It's stupid! Keep it synced all the time, even when the console is on sleep mode.

After this update I noticed a gestures tutorial that I never noticed before (not sure if it was new or not), and learned about the press and hold for menu. Whish we had faster selecting options. Prior to launch Ms talked about finger taping for selection. My finger is clearly visible from Kinect's depth view. It would be even better for navigation if they made selection gestures more fine grained, like a simple finger tap for selecting, two fingers tap for menu, etc... At least give these options if the person is near enough for these gestures to be reliable.

It would be nice to have an option to automatically install all content that I own for games and apps that are already installed. And again, this could be checked while in sleep mode, so whenever I redeem a code anywhere that content is automatically downloaded.

I see. If it ever happens again I'll try that.

You can do a push gesture to select.

I had the same problem. Did the same thing and it was fine. After a while, the screen did flicker a couple times while I was playing titanfall.

The x1 will update in any mode. The standby mode just checks when you turn the console back on and the energy saving checks while the console is off. You're right though, MS is pushing this device update out very weirdly. My neighbors are students and have 3 x1s and two updated Sat and the 3rd hasn't yet. Very odd.

Slightly OT but I figured it would be most convenient to ask this here. I'm currently in another country and away from my console. I've been adding all the Games with Gold games to my queue through xbox.com. Am I correct to assume that I'll still be able to download all the titles for free once I boot up my console? I don't have access to it for another month.

Thanks very much!

EDIT: This is for the 360.

Yes, once you've purchased a game. It's available forever from your download history and marketplace. The platform which you use to purchase the game doesn't matter.

I'm having the same issue. It's happened to me maybe 5 times since getting the update. A hard reset fixes it but this is fucked up. Ridiculous how this is happening.

The more technology, the bigger the scale = more bugs :)

Little late answering this, but this might work - assumes you are in standby mode on you Xbox One: switch your xbox one to power-saving mode, then power off. Power back on and your NAT should be open, then you can place it back in standby mode.

This worked for me and I was having very similar problems (with a different router though, I have an Asus Dark Knight router).

Yeah, this has to be an issue with the new patch. Before this update it never happened to me, now I've got it 3 times. It pisses off the wife-unit too since it impacts TV viewing. =[

had the same issue here three times so far since Friday night, each time when I was starting or going home from Tf beta

It's not just TF beta, I got it once when my kids were done playing Peggle.

[/anecdotal] Come to think of it, it's only happened for me when exiting out of games. I haven't had it happen for an app yet.

I had similar problems until I did what you describe. I think being in standby fucks up the networking every few reboots so you have to do a "clean" reboot to fix it. I've switched it to be power-saving forever now though. I can live with longer boot times as long as I don't have to unfuck matchmaking in random intervals.

Re-calibrate? Make sure you have the volume on your tv/sound system louder than normal. This is a key factor that so many people ignore or miss.

Yeah I tried that. It didn't work, But it started randomly working again right now. My friend is also having the same problem as well.

I was having the exact same problem. I tweeted @XboxSupport and they replied with this.

@sethcheek Interesting! Try this: Hold the console power button for 10 seconds then unplug the power cable for a full 5 minutes. ^CQ

Would NOT have thought that would've worked, but now it hears me just fine.
