I want this so fucking bad, but loathe how things go out of print. Makes no goddamn sense.

Wesker is by far the best Mercs character.

It's not 'tier these characters'. It's order them by how much you like using them. Krauser is the most fun, FOR ME, because I love his bow and his boss special. Wesker's melees do a lot of damage, but I don't prefer how they look, and I don't prefer his load out, no matter if he's best for high scores or not.

Same here. RE2 was my favorite of the games I played. Hoping this is up there.

I harbor so much jealousy for all of you first timers, I really do.

For the people playing for the first time...Lucky, lucky bastards all of you. Prepare yourselves for one of the most well-paced, and insanely varied gaming experiences of your lifetime. Get ready for a game that tries to do everything...And nails it. This game juggles every ball in the book, and doesn't drop a single one.

Get ready for one of the few games I can say without hyperbole, that I consider to be perfect. There's not a single chip on this goddamn diamond. I cannot overstate how utterly brilliant this game is.

Let's get this straight... I've played through RE4 around 50 or 60 times, probably around 30 or 40 of those on Professional. Believe me, I've shotgunned a lot of heads in my day. And believe me, I still get plenty of exploding heads.

I'm not saying shotguns are the only way to explode heads. I'm asking why would anyone in their right mind deprive themselves of close-range shotgun-to-the-face carnage in a game that was created just for that purpose?

(Just so it's clear, my responses to you were half-joking; I am not trying to impugn your expertise or experience with RE4 :))

I don't agree with perfect... but I will agree with flawless. Things could be improved, but nothing (at least at launch) was *flawed*. Still the best game ever.

If you're talking about the 9 PM time, not sure. People were posting it around here I believe, but by checking the store listing, makes it now seem like 4 PM instead.

There is the 4 PM Pacific Store page listing, and the 9 PM Pacific Capcom listing on the forums.

Games are unlocked manually be the developers on Steam:

The game does not unlock automatically, though. Capcom has to unlock it manually through the registry.

Ultimately, what it says on the Steam site is irrelevant. Capcom themselves said a midnight Eastern release, unfortunately I'm leaning towards that being the case.

Just played a little RE5 Mercs in hype of this, damn, this is still awesome. Shootin' heads and clickin' melees with Battlesuit Jill. It controls good with the kb/m, though the inventory is a bit of a jumble. It crashed on me during my match tho :/

I hope someone can mod a No Mercy type thing into RE4 Mercs.

Dat Red9 reload animation!!

Wait, is that wood bit to say that there are two different HD wood textures? I hope so, because the one that's on the right looks god awful.

The one on the left is the original texture. I'm not a fan of the new one either, to be honest.

I've said it before, but the old one has a better "pop" to it, IMO.

From the blog post:
WOOD! Which do you like more, rustic or realistic? Whatever the case, it’s an Old vs New preference you can toggle to your heart’s content anytime in the game's settings menu.

Just caved and bought it through GMG. Buying it for the whatever-th time and I can't believe I'm still excited to jump back into it.

Also love that the weapon selection arguments are still going strong!

RED9 for life!

I can see why some would prefer the older wood texture but in most cases the new textures are a huge improvement. Look at the Racoon city police logo on Leon's arm or Ashley's sweater, that's a huge increase in level of detail.

Man the hype for this release is really building. This is great to see. For those of us who will be on our 10th+ play through and still can't wait for another is always a great sign of a really good game. Hope more new people pick it up and realize that 5 and (especially) 6 are not indicative of how the series used to be...

Don't pass on this game if you've never played it!

As stated earlier, and can't be stressed enough, that video is a great example for people who claim there is no difference between 30 and 60fps. It's easy to see and definitely makes this game look even better. I'm sure some will say it's not the same and prefer the other but we have that. Plenty of it actually.

I actually can't tell the difference in Alo81's gif thread, but I can easily spot the difference in these video clips. Its night and day.

Does this run better than the OG PC version?

In nearly every way.

Original PC version was based on the PS2's textures, geometries, and recorded video along non-existent M/KB controls.

This version has full mouse/keyboard control, including menus and inventory, 60 FPS for the first time in RE4's history, GameCube geometry, high-res texture packs, support for high-resolutions, Steamworks, and more.

It looks like Capcom hit this one out of the park.

I think this confirms that it should have better quality to the assets, but it doesn't confirm if it actually runs better.

We don't actually know that yet, but all signs are pointing to it being a good port and as a result, running better and being better.

What do you mean then by runs better? A game running at 60fps generally is considered to be running better than one at 30fps.

But it makes it look too much like a soap opera!
