Just because they share the same genre?
And...well, all the game mechanics. They're pretty much as close as you can get to being the same series loophooled with a different name to get around IP ownership.
Just because they share the same genre?
As fucked up as moving Resident Evil to Gamecube, away from its original fanbase? Point being, these things happen when the goal is to increase the userbase, whether it's against the wishes of the fanbase or not. Considering the franchise started on the PS3, it wouldn't be as bad for the original fans, as REmake on GC was.
Is Final Fantasy VII called Chrono Trigger?Isn't demon's souls 2 called dark souls
Agreed.
It's a business move. It might be shitty for Souls fans who don't have/want a PS4, but this isn't exactly a new situation.
Sony might not have had the foresight to predict Demon's Souls (and, in turn, Dark Souls) gaining such a large, passionate fanbase- but you can bet your ass they started taking notice really quickly. Didn't Yoshida even admit they (Sony) seriously misjudged how that IP would be accepted?
For one thing, a Demon's Souls 2 (or whatever they'll call it) developed via Japan Studios & Miyazaki/FROM would push hardware sales for PS4. It might not be a massive boost, but it would be something. Hell, I've seen posters on GAF that played Dark Souls on the 360 and got a PS3 specifically for Demon's.
It could also be the first 'next-gen' Souls game, as I'd imagine it would probably release well before a PS4/X1 Dark Souls 3 if rumors of the game being already in development are true.
FROM will benefit from a multi-platform Dark Souls series (as will Namco). They would also benefit from a PS4 exclusive follow-up/spiritual successor to the original Demon's Souls, as I'd expect Sony will cover publishing costs, possibly even directly assist in development, etc.
Horseshit.
This. People want a direct (non-spiritual) sequel to a game they loved? Oh it must be console war bullshit right. WTF.
Agreed.

I don't want to speak for everyone here, but I wouldn't be surprised if some people are interested for the exclusivity. I go on a different site and Dark Souls 2 threads won't get anymore than like 15 posts. A thread was posted about the possibility of Demon's Souls 2 on PS4. Post count? 200+.
I will say it for you: The only people who want Demon's Souls 2 to happen is Sony, their fanboys, and people who can't get it through their thick skulls that the name of the game isn't the reason that Dark Souls isn't exactly like Demon's Souls (muh hub world, muh grass!).
Hell yeah! +1Whatever Miyazaki is doing, I'm sure all Souls fans will enjoy it. Me included ;D
Great to see posts like this. I remember seeing first shots of the Vanguard Demon in 4-1, etc. and being intrigued. HK version at my local import shop and the rest was history. Such a fun discovery to a series full of discovery itself. It's funny thinking of Demons Souls now. I remember seeing the videos of it before the japanese/asian release and seeing it get laughed at on GAF (as some of the promo footage WAS a bit rough) But upon finding out that the HK version had english subs I imported it and played the shit out of it. The streams then started to get people interested and it was just fun watching people slowly start to get into the series and become ever increasingly popular. I wasn't a member of GAF at the time but it was fun to watch
I'll never get rid of my original HK version of Demons Souls, that's got a special place in my collection.
Alternatively, those who don't want it to happen are likely aligned with another platform.
You caught me. I'm aligned with PC and I don't think exclusive games are a good thing for consumers.
Not to mention, that it's a similar case to Bayonetta 2; there would be no sequel if Sony didn't fund it. So, which is better, exclusive sequel, or no sequel at all?
Imagine Demon Souls 2 on Vita with 4 player co-op. Would be so sick.

From didn't have any trouble getting a sequel funded; that was Dark Souls. The issue with getting a "Demon's Souls 2" is the fact that Sony owns the IP. It's not really comparable to Bayonetta 2 at all.

Hmm, clearly Atlus's US PR manager would be in the know about what is happening in Japan at Sony and From Software. But I'd like to hear from Bungie's sound director or 2K Sports lead programmer just to confirm this storySo, I just accidentally stumbled over that little comment on Playstation blog from an Atlus employee:
"PS Blog Exclusive: can 100% confirm there will NOT be a Demon Souls 2. "

Demon's Souls is a Sony IP and they'd publish it by themselves anyway if it's real, so that dude wouldn't know right, RIGHT??
It needs to be more like Dark Souls. And made by Platinum.
A FROM made Demon's Souls backed with Sony production values would really steal the thunder out of the Dark Souls series given how similar they are.
Just because they share the same genre?
Lol. The same genre, same developer, same publisher, same aesthetic, same character design, same combat, same half of name etc.

I fail to see why it needs to be like Dark Souls
There's really no guarantee a Demon's Souls 2 would even have a nexus, the lols to be had if they went with an open world for the game.

It was supposed to be a joke, as in every thread about any game here on GAF someone says "this game should be more like Dark Souls" or "give it to Platinum"
Sony exclusivity.
IGN is reporting that the dev came out and said there is a 100% there will be no sequel :/
Nope. They reported that a PR guy from Atlus said it. Which is irrelevant because Atlus has nothing to do with what is rumored to be in the works. (From + Sony.)
Disappointing that IGN would run that story as is; unsurprising though.
Yep Yep Yep
many would rather see it exclusive than a better Dark Souls game.
I don't consider myself Sony, a Sony fanboy, or incapable of understanding the relation between Dark Souls and Demon's Souls. But I would love a Demon's Souls 2 so I can buy a game for my PS4. Dark Souls 3 would be fine too, but a PS4 Demon's Souls 2 seems like the earlier remedy so I will continue to want that for now.I will say it for you: The only people who want Demon's Souls 2 to happen is Sony, their fanboys, and people who can't get it through their thick skulls that the name of the game isn't the reason that Dark Souls isn't exactly like Demon's Souls (muh hub world, muh grass!).
Yep. Agreed with all of the above.Agreed.

Deep Down is Sony's attempt with s own Demon's Souls. That game clearly takes after Demon's Souls, while adding the whole randomly generated dungeons angle in a misguided attempt to appeal to the western gamer (Capcom being Capcom). All that will do is hurt the game's level-design.
I don't know how people could possibly believe we can have a true Demon's Soul 2 now that Dark Souls is off and running.
