PaRappa the Rapper told me to drop dead.

Dredd Fox what happened ? You fell off so hard.

Come to think of it / maybe not, cause you were never a star.

This is no way to treat your biggest fans/ mess around with the wrong one/ and you could have the next "Stan" on your hands.

We all know your still living with your mom in her mobile home / and maybe that's what has made your heart grow so cold.

But you can't continue this behavior, man you need to stop it ! / ask your Momma nicely to warm you up a Hot Pocket.

And while you're eating it, rethink your situation/ where would you be without your fans on Playstation?

From reading the blog, I honestly don't think Dred is 100% at fault. He does seem like he's not the most professional or reliable guy, but he offered to still provide the work he was paid for. This was declined, and that's when things got ugly. I get how frustrating it is, but it sounds more like he just really wanted/needed that job and wanted to do it than that he's trying to "scam". He should return the money now that he's not providing the work, but I can understand why he wouldn't want to. Honestly I think if he was working for an actual studio/developer/whatever, they'd let him keep the $100. Not saying 2 students should do the same, but at the end of the day it sounds like he did do some recording and put in some time. I'd probably try to meet him in the middle and get SOME of the money back, even if you think he's lying about having recorded material. He's had to put some level of time/effort in, and that's not worth nothing when you're hired talent.

I don't know, it just seems extremely shady to me.

How does anyone know this guy is actually Dred Foxx ? I can create an Official ( insert any barely-a-celebrity name here ) Fan Page right now and pretend to be him/her.

Just to confirm that it is in fact Dred Foxx, he posted this along with two other line recordings on the fan page before PSAS came out. Can't imagine anyone else being able to take those videos.

The thing is, he offered to provide the work after he had already offered a refund. I had time to work on the cartoon when I first hired him, but after he missed my deadline I needed to move on to other stuff and the time for a PSAS-themed cartoon had pretty much passed anyway.

And we have indeed tried to meet him in the middle, we offered to take monthly payments of $20 after the first few times he flaked and he still wouldn't do it.

I have no idea what is going on with people saying "it's just $100". Even if I was a millionaire I'd still try to get back $100 if it was scammed from me and the effort to do so was not unreasonable. Also bringing justice and raising awareness to someone who could be doing this to other people as well is a worthy cause.

Bottom line it was a time specific contract. By the time Dred was supposedly ready to send them something, the OP had no use for it, that project was done with.

It's like if you pre-pay a catering service to cater your birthday party but last minute they cancel and they say " We can't make it to your party today but we'll be able to provide you our catering service a month from now".

Well, my bday has already come and gone bitches. I don't need a catering service now, give me back my money.

I wouldn't let this Dred guy hurt anyone's love for Parappa.

The real stars behind Parappa are Rodney Greenblat (the artist who drew all the characters) and Masaya Matsuura (the creator of Parappa).

Voice actors like Dred can be replaced any day of the week. Earlier in this thread I mentioned MC Chris as a good replacement. He was a voice on many Adult Swim shows like Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, and Sealab 2021. He has a high pitched voice, he's a hardcore gamer, and he's a rapper who has released over ten albums.

From personal experience Rodney Alan Greenblat is an awesome dude. At some point years ago - I can't remember when exactly but to give a clue I contacted him via Dreamcast(!) - he asked people to send him an action figure of any type in the mail for what I presume was an art project. In return he would send you some of his art. He was making postcards and such mostly for a Japanese audience among other things. Well I sent him a Rosie O'Donnell "Betty Rubble" from "The Flintstones Movie", opened no Bam-Bam. He had specified that opened and any age or condition was fine. He was interested in the novelty factor...

$_1.JPG

STILL that is a pretty bottom of the bucket "action" figure.

To cut to the chase I never received anything back and after some time had passed I wrote him from the DC to see if anything went awry and made a small joke about his super stardom. Well, he wrote back the next day and thanked me saying that some of the addresses had been lost after he had written them down and he was incredibly upset about it but had dug through and found them after being prompted by my email. He referenced the joke and said how much his fans mean to him and that he was going to send myself and a few others he had misplaced far more than the others received.

Not too long after that I got a fat package in the mail from Whimsyload Inc. stuffed with dozens of stickers, flyers, art postcard sets and various promotional pieces of his from the last several years. I was blown away by his thoughtfulness and generosity.

To repeat: Rodney Alan Greenblat is an awesome dude.

I'm not so sure about. From the very beginning it sounded like he was out to keep money while providing nothing in return. In his first reply he says his schedule is crazy (lol?), setting up an excuse that he will be able to use in future when he doesn't deliver the lines. He then says he's trusting him and he rarely does that, but why even say that? He can record the lines after he gets the money, no reason he needs to trust him. Seems like he's just projecting. And then his Paypal is coincidentally inactive, although becomes active again in the near future after the money was sent.

I very much doubt he has put any time or effort in apart from posting Facebook messages and scamming the OP.

I was telling someone else about this so I got the chance to read it more closely. This is a lot funnier the second time around.

Dred Fox said:
sometimes folks think they gonna ask me to do some BS they runnin’ & slander my profile...NOT!

He says this before Camjo started asking for his money back. That's what we call foreshadowing.

Dred Foxx said:
"take it from youtube & do what you dude do!" (I stay ryhmin’ lol)

How is that a rhyme? Am I reading this wrong?

Dred Foxx said:
Oruku Saki? Are you one of the bitter chicks I dumped overseas and never called back? A lonely fan? A guy or a girl? You wanna date me? (I date girls) Are you a toothless wonder who wants a kiss? An obsessed fan peeking through my window? Too bad you dont show your face..your probably a cute little boy name Cameron Perry..awwww!

I love the bit where he briefly interrupts his taunts to inform us that he isn’t gay.

Dred Foxx said:
You guys just made a friend named Parappa :)
Dred Foxx said:
But in the meantime I’m asking for SMALL donations to the get Parappa The Rapper back in cyberspace on the regular!
Dred Foxx said:
We (Me & PTR) only need $5 pp (per person) donations…
Dred Foxx said:
You could have had a friend in PTR…

Dred seems to think that he actually is PaRappa the Rapper. Or at least knows him in real life.

The whole thing screams scam. The thing that told me scam right away, was the amount he was charging. " just give me like $50 or $75, or even $100 if you feel like it ". Who does that ?

In hindsight it appears to be an obvious scam, but I don' blame the OP.

Wow, his Facebook page is looking awfully... negative right now. And at least one random-ass site felt the need to pick this up (nothing major yet, though): http://www.at7addak.com/article/parappa-voice-actor-scams-fans-for-cash

Yo, DJ. SPIN THAT SHIT

Thought Dred's Facebook crew would defend him to the death
But those same fans just went and laid a steamer on his chest

No surprise

This cartoon dog's got more bark than bite
Stole a Benji, but only charges five bucks for the night

Don't get up, Dred

I'll leave the money on the night stand
You'll need it, cuz your so-called career just got shit-canned.

Yeah, for sure. I don't blame him for not suspecting a somewhat well-known rapping dog would try to scam him for a relatively small amount of money.

Probably one of the best GAF threads in a while, and I will bet the majority of GAF ignored it cause the thread title was so weird. I am sorry that so many people had to miss the twist and turns this thread took, it was one wild ride.
It was the most viewed thread gaming side.

I hope Sony avoids this walking PR nightmare if they are making a new PaRappa. Other VAs who could replace him are a dime a dozen. Hell, they could even get Seth Green, since more people who didn't play the series prior have probably heard him do PaRappa in Robot Chicken more than Dredd in the actual games.

What's the best version of Parappa to get? PS1 or PSP?

They're both pretty much the same in terms of content, though the PSP version has ad-hoc multiplayer and some throwaway downloadable remixes. HDTVs seem to throw off the timing of PaRappa 1 and UmJammer Lammy though, so PSP is probably a better choice anyway.

PSP version is an input lag-plagued piece of shit and shouldn't be played.

Hubba-wha? I just played it this morning with no problems... actually felt more responsive than Lammy. The timing seems off if you're basing it off the on-screen button prompts, but if you press the buttons in time with the actual rhythm it works fine.

Get ripped off $100 over personal matter....better get 10,000 people to shit all over the guy and ruin his life instead of going to the police...that about right?

Use the timing of the beat and not the onscreen prompts and it's passable.

As Camjo hinted at above, unless you can get a CRT TV set or something, you're probably going to be playing on something that has input lag/delay if you get the PS1 version. Just get the PSP/Vita version.

The police wouldn't do anything and, as I've said before, trying to sue would probably just end up being a waste of even more of my time and money.

And I don't recall ever telling people to "shit on him", actually the literal opposite:

I'm not saying that he should get poo flung at him or anything, but the least people could do is let him know that stealing money from his fans and acting arrogant about it is not OK. If anyone reading this blog agrees, please send Dred a message on Facebook saying so.

And this was only after Dred started being antagonistic towards me in public. Of course, if people want to give the virus a taste of his own antibiotics, I'm not going to stop them.

If facts make you look like a shitty person, then you probably are a shitty person. This is a "celebrity" ( I use that term very loosely, Dred Foxx is a few rungs below Bruce Vilanch ) and he should conduct himself in a more professional manner since he is under a spotlight ( well, not exactly but you know what I mean ).

A "celebrity" can't steal money from an 18 year old fan, and then talk shit about him in a public setting and not expect to get reamed. He deserves everything he's getting right now. This is not hearsay, the OP has posts from this Assclown! Parappa blatantly scammed this kid out of $100, and then tried to make a fool out of him in front of his fans.

If anyone reading this blog agrees, please send Dred a message on Facebook saying so." and setting up a blog about it, a friend calling out Dred as a "Fucking con artist" and posting on the largest gaming community on the planet is certainly asking for internet justice.

Internet justice is one hell of a mighty tool to wield. Asking for a tidal wave of strangers to comment on something like this (literally a $100), makes both of you seem like jerks. Both yours and his response seem wildly inappropriate and the weapons of popular opinion you wield is going to put both of your names at risk when it comes to googling in the future. Hopefully you do something note worthy in life later so the first thing an employer googles about our name isnt that you created a blog about someone who took your money.

Ward later deleted the post and linked to a video apology on Twitter, with a comment saying, for all the offended, im truly sorry. I'll try to be a better mc.

A current Facebook post reads, did two interviews. broke down crying in the middle of the mall. mission accomplished internet. this is the worst I ever felt.

This was two years ago. I met him in '13. He was a cool dude.

You're right, I really should have just let him do whatever he wants with no repercussions whatsoever. After all, a future employer might randomly decide to pair my name with an obscure 17 year old video game and come across a blog where I air my grievances with Dred Foxx and think "well damn, I certainly don't want this kid tattling on me when I rip him off. Application denied."

Shame Kotaku hasn't picked this up.

I had thought they would.

jschrier actually did have me e-mail him, so I assume he plans on doing something with this.

It doesn't matter anyway, because this story has gotten onto P4RGaming, and that's all anybody could ever really want.

It might not be the "right" thing, but that kind of disrespectful behavior should not be encouraged. The money is irrelevant. You don't get to steal money, act like a big jerk on the internet and expect to get away with it.

You reap what you sow.

Parappa the rapper born and raised
in the fan group was where I spent most of my days
chillin out maxin, not giving a fuck
or asking my fans to give me five bucks

When a couple of guys who I owed money to
Started making trouble in my facebook group
I got in one little fight and Gaf got mad
They said "give back the money 'cause stealing is bad"

Exactly. Can't feel sorry for Dred, I don't care how bad off he may be. If he wanted the $100, he should of just recorded the ten lines and be done with it. Wouldn't of been hard.

First of all, referring to it as just $100 makes you sound like a jerk. A ton of people live check to check in this world. For a full time student, $100 can take a while to make back.

Did you actually read the OP's blog ? Dred blatantly ripped these guys off. He was shady from the get go. From reading Dreds posts, I get the feeling he never actually planned on recording shit ! He starts off by asking for $50 or $75 or $100. OP sends him $60, now Dred smells blood in the water and asks for another $40 because he's in a union and his manager is supposed to get $20 ( um ok ). Then his iPad gets stolen like a day after he buys it ? Asking his other fans for donations so he can "get back online", as if he wasn't online when he was ripping of the OP and asking for more donations ?

And the job angle is a joke. If I'm an employer and I found out that a potential employee got ripped of by someone he thought he could trust, and then tried his best to handle the situation in a calm and respectful manner until the thief started belittling him on his Facebook page, I wouldn't have one problem whatsoever with that.
