The meltdowns over that Twilight Princess 8.8 review will probably never be topped.

I agree. GTA would be way better if I could use super powers instead of just guns.

If Infamous is budgeted like GTA, it would out sell GTA (on Playstation platforms). GTA is made by a 1000 people team. Sucker punch is a mid-budget 80 member team.

It is not possible to create detailed side missions with its own stories with such a small team and budget. I think it was by design, they wanted it to be a small fun game. It is not going to score in 9's and 10's.

It is what is it, if you like 10 hrs of fun. Then infamous is a great game. But any one looking for GTA with super powers.. need to wait for Rock star to make a game like that.

But it did score 9s and 10s. Just sayin.

Edit. Also most people on gaf have been reporting 15hrs for good and evil playthroughs so its more like 30hrs plus the 19 missions in the patch that is roughly an additional 5hrs.

Don't know about you guys, as much as I am partial to reviews, if I'm on the fence about something, I usually listen to the GAF consensus. Is that good or bad?

I understand that some reviewers are giving it low scores cause... That's just their opinions. But I played it this morning and its.....

Anybody seen the salty user review scores on metacritic? It's the same shit fanboys were doing to the titanfall metacritic.

Like this? http://www.metacritic.com/user/KWIKSILVA

I don't know where to begin here. oh wait, yes i do. What a waste of money this game is. The visuals are terrible and the world in which your meant to believe in is soulless. It;s just about long enough but has no replayability. Your gonna see plenty copies of this game on the preowned shelves, coz that;s where mine is going. Wish i had never bought a PS4, glad i got X1 though.

I am guessing they don't have a PS4, and their eyes are filled with salty tears while they wrote that (which makes the visuals of the game look terrible).

They gave Titanfall a 10, lol.

It's a sandbox game? Just because it has a big map doesn't mean it's a sandbox.
It isn't? The big map isn't the only aspect IF shares with your typical sandbox game. You're never forced to complete the main missions and side missions are strewn across the map so you can run around and do things whatever way you want. Pretty standard sandbox implementation, never thought I'd see anyone say otherwise.

I agree. GTA would be way better if I could use super powers instead of just guns.
Might as well. Let's be honest, your character is basically superhuman in those games already.

But it did score 9s and 10s. Just sayin.

The game had a budget bigger than most blockbuster movies (260+ million). We cannot let that become the standard for a game to attain 9s and 10s. Reviews especially should not encourage their readers to set such high standards for any type of game.

The thing is, if you asked most people on here about Uncharted 3 now, i bet a lot of people would say that its not as good as Uncharted 2 and the slightly lower reviews were probably right.

This is true.

The people crying foul over reviews in most cases have not played the game yet, and are not interested in a critical perspective. They just want something to justify their hype and/or praise an exclusive game from the console manufacturer they've decided to become emotionally involved with. I can pretty much guarantee you that most of the people shitting on reviewers in this thread would instead hype them up had they given this game a 9 or a 10.

Some people shouldn't come into a thread where people are complaining about people complaining about review scores and tell them to stop. Most of the legitimate complaints are about the content of the reviews

Exactly. The score itself is meaningless. It's the content that I take issue with. When a game is criticized as having gameplay that doesn't feel next gen, I think it's more than fair to critique that review.

Just like with Twilight Princess or any other game that goes through review controversy.

I'm tired of the argument that I should only want to do something one particular way...in a sandbox game.
What's point of spending so much effort and money to make something that most people are not going to use. Read some of the Saints Row 4 reviews. A lot of them will talk about how useless cars are in that game. I pick polish over useless choices, which sometimes exists for the sake of having choices. You want to drive cars then play GTA games, they are very good.

Rev3 gave this a 3/5 but gave Titanfall a 5/5? Wat.

A review at the end of the day is an opinion with the reviewer's case for the opinion.

Sessler enjoyed Titanfall more and he gave his reasons why. He enjoyed InFamous less and gave his reasons for that too.

You don't have to agree with him, but that is his opinion.

There is no GAF consensus so whatever positive or negative impression you're extracting from "GAF" is surely filtered through your own expectations or desires.

It's pretty gross to see people trying to trash reviews that give Infamous a bad score. Take this guy deriding the 6/10 metro gamecentral review:

Considering they’ve both come out within a week of each other, and are both the highest profile post-launch exclusives for their respective consoles, it’s very hard not to compared Titanfall with inFamous: Second Son
Actually, it's very very easy not to compare them since, you know, they're completely different genres!

Well, quoting them in full without your ripping of the context away, we find:

Considering they’ve both come out within a week of each other, and are both the highest profile post-launch exclusives for their respective consoles, it’s very hard not to compared Titanfall with inFamous: Second Son. And yet the two titles couldn’t be more different. Titanfall is a multiplayer-only shooter with unremarkable graphics but superb gameplay, while Second Son has some of the best graphics ever and is purely single-player only…

Oh right, it was only touching upon the fact that thery're the first two important exclusives to be released and very close to each other, nothing about apples to oranges here.

The whole game could lose the entire superhero angle with very little change to either the gameplay or story.
Come on, the entire story revolves around super powers and being either a hero or a villain, it's what the infamous series has always been about.

Let's try adding the "context" again. What do we find?

And it doesn’t help to keep your interest that all the enemies are essentially just soldiers with guns, and last gen artificial intelligence. Although later on they do get a range of weak superpowers the whole game could lose the entire superhero angle with very little change to either the gameplay or story

Ah, a complaint about enemy variety given the genre.

These silly points among others just make me question these sites. Metro has been known to be off the mark before.

Aaaaand one final attempt to discredit the review because it gave the game a bad score.

Ugh.

How much effort and money really goes into making vehicles controllable? Its a staple in every modern-day open world game so it should hardly be too much to ask if you want your game to play in this space. Especially now that SP decided to situate the game in a real city, the dissonance here only becomes more pronounced.

As for how much use they would get, that all depends on how well devs design their game. A little imagination goes a long way. Personally, I think it would be pretty cool if Delsin could hop on a motorcycle, use his smoke power to dematerialize with the bike to the top of a building and then start hopping from rooftop to rooftop across the city, a little like Ghost Rider (he does have the chain, after all). That'd certainly make for some cool gifs like the ones you posted earlier :)

And people love Titanfall soooo....

I don't know why people were expecting this to be such a departure from previous infamous games. To me it always looked like an infamous game with next gen visuals and some minor tweaks. Personally I'm glad. That's what I wanted, I love infamous, the first two games are two of my favorites why would I want it to play differently? Same goes for the next uncharted, I want an uncharted game plain and simple. If you want something else there are plenty of games that will satisfy that need for you.

I agree that thing(s) you mentioned in the second paragraph sounds cool. Then there is the first paragraph...

Do you know how much effort it takes? Of the top my head, they would need to hire people who specialize in driving and driving physics. They need to make sure that driving is actually fine tuned and fun. They need to make sure that different cars have unique feel to them. All the while trying to hit moving target that was PS4 and polish it like they did. They are also not a very big studio. All of this for something I don't think most people will use.

I will ask again, how many people actually used cars in Saints Row 4 after getting superpowers?

Basically.

I was actually expecting grades like these. I bet it's a great game for those that like inFamous.

Anyone know how big Sucker Punch is??? How many people worked on the game????
How much budget was allocated for development????

This game is stupidly good looking. The neon stuff is redonk.

I'm liking neon a lot more than smoke so far.

Yep. It's gorgeous looking, and it feels like Infamous. I love Infamous, even though they've always felt like second tier (but as I've said many times, some of my alltime favourite games have been solid b-tier material) and SS still has the series' floaty movement, eagle-eyed AI and twitchy traversal that annoys me. Somehow the games add up to more than the sum of their parts though, and even though it's a little frustrating that some 'errors' have followed the series to this third game, it's not biggie.

Infamous is never going to hit the 10s consistently, not while the parkouring is still like it is. Delsin should auto-run over obstacles, and i know that seem like dumbing down but I want to feel like a superhero, and having him dick around refusing to grab a 6ft fence takes that feel away.

I just got the game, and just by looking at the game in it's shiny blue case...I give the game an.....8.153999999999E

Come at me GAF....

but seriously....if you are playing the game and enjoying it, then who cares what others think.

I don't know how much effort it takes, but I know it's not atypical for this type of game, and practically a baseline. SP is already expending some amount of effort to model a variety of cars in the first place, implement AI routing and make them interactive objects in many ways except drive-ability. Taking the extra steps of making vehicles driveable has never been something I've seen cited as any kind of significant overhead for an open-world game.

I will ask again, how many people actually used cars in Saints Row 4 after getting superpowers?
Still missing the point of a sandbox game...
