Dark Souls II - Graphics Comparison - PC Preview

Oh boy, I can downsample shit from 8k.

I can't believe how much worse the game looks overall next to the original game. It's really very disappointing. The backgrounds and lighting appear so flat and plain in comparison.

Lots of missing detail as well.

Its sucks but thems the breaks.

I know you don't give a shit about IQ, but I thought you'd be ecstatic about 60 FPS instead of 25 or tearing.

Detail (both character and environmental) seems very comparable to DS1 to me. And I'm intimately familiar with how that looks.

Everyone should be for sure

Its a great version of the final that we all need to accept

No confirmation on the FPS yet. I'd also like some!
(Though my 1440p monitor is just 60 Hz anyway. Well, it overclocks to a whopping 67 :p)

Interested to see. It doesn't directly affect me either but I'm sure it would make a lot of other people very happy.

I didn't buy it on consoles due to that awful frame-rate so I'm thrilled about that but I was secretly hoping it would look like the build I played last year and not the final console game. I know, it was very unlikely to happen, but damn it if it isn't crushingly disappointing.

It looks bland to the point where my hype has been all but killed. After putting in over a hundred hours into the original game I still want to play it...but man, it's just so bland looking. The world was a huge part of the appeal of Dark Souls for me and they did a great job with it.

It looks unfinished, I suppose.

Oh my god, this looks ridiculous. This MUST be broken/not correctly implemented or something. I refuse to believe this is supposed to be like that.

I hate how floaty the walking animations are, it was nothing like this in DS1. I don't think this is something that can be fixed with a mod either. Very disappointing.

The ghost of the demos shall haunt this entry in the series for some time to come lol

Man, it must be specially hard for you since you actually PLAYED the build with the better graphics, :(

Im trying super hard to forget all the old footage.

What could have been.

You can be very sure that they will target that level of fidelity for Dark Souls III. The lowest common denominator will be more powerful (XBO/PS4 in this case) and we know the engine is capable.

Once you move past that build, the healing starts and you can accept the state of this game.

So...all of the footage shown about the game from its reveal to this past January is not in any particular version of the game? Then why did they show all of that fancy stuff literally weeks before launch?

I had a feeling they fully scrapped it, but it's the timeframe from what they showed and what was released that bothers me. Will we be able to take the PS4 Souls footage seriously when they finally showcase that game?

I'm confused now. PC Gamer said up to 1440p natively...?

Durante, estimated time/difficulty to achieve LUDICROUS RESOLUTION if downsampling is already supported by the game and 2560x1440 4K is just the highest internal res exposed in the menu?

I suppose it could have zero difficulty and take about 30 seconds if there's a config file that lets us set it to whatever value we want. :p

EDIT: Looks like it natively supports at least 4K.

All you people complaining are going to buy the on PC anyway, because it does look and run about a thousand times better.

So I can just set the res to 1440p without using downsampling tricks and get the benefits?.

I assumed that's what the unlock optimized resolution settings meant but someone else said "no" so maybe someone can explain. I was assuming that if you set it to higher it is automatically downsampling the textures.

So was it all just bullshit that this new engine was "built for next gen" and that the "pc version is the lead version"?

Definitely avoiding this game like the plague on all systems.

This thread has now convinced me that people don't pay any attention to information in a thread and just post whatever the fuck they feel like.

I don't even think it has anything to do with a discussion. People just like to have catharsis and yell at shit to make them feel better and this is the catharsis de jour.

That Next Gen like reveal footage sure tugged some heartstrings. Mine included lol

Let the healing begin Umbasa

I'm very happy I didn't give in to impatience and get the console game.

1080p@60fps was all I expected and this is a step above that, so I'm totally content with this port.

No. The engine is capable of more but was scaled back because of the older console and probably time constraints. The PC version was the lead platform in that the other versions were based off of it but that didn't mean we were going to get something vastly different. They delivered a better version in every way on the PC.

How does it run with the downsampling?

That is from PC gamer and, apparently, they are running it on their beastly rig.

Brad from Giantbomb said he maxed it out on his lower-end machine at home and never dropped a frame.

So what's the official excuse for cutting out the new lighting on PC, did they say anything?

Money.

From realized two of their target platforms would not be able to support their ambitions.

I've only just started playing, and this is the first thing I noticed- bothers me greatly as well. In both DsS and DS every step feels deliberate and with purpose, while in DS2 I feel like the character is sliding around.
