The game would look like garbage at 720p. What's the point of having better effects if those effects will be rendered with half the pixels and significant blurring/aliasing? 720p is a disgusting resolution for newer TVs and should never be used. This isn't 2005. When PS3 and 360 came out devs could have had better effects by rendering at 640x480 (previous gen resolution) but obviously that didn't happen because resolution is crucial to overall image quality.
I agree. People should start demanding better things from companies (especially from the hardware makers).
We've played plenty of Sub-HD games & Native 720p games on 360 & PS3 already. And sadly, when future games get more demanding, Xbox One is going to be fairing a lot worse in resolutions, etc. than with PS4. If games like BattleField 4 & COD: Ghosts were Native 720p on Xbox One, just imagine how future 3rd party games will be on that system over the years once 3rd party developers starts moving away from cross-gen development.

is the ram really the biggest problem with the xbox one, because on paper the two system aren't really all that different from each other?
Worse memory bandwidth, worse memory architecture, worse asynchronous compute, worse raw gpu compute, thicker layer between OS and HW.is the ram really the biggest problem with the xbox one, because on paper the two system aren't really all that different from each other?

gddr5 is the standard from now on. how the hell xbone released with ddr3 and even managed to charge more is just beyond me.
Pre patch or post patch?
I guess you can always find someone that will disagree, because obviously not everyone shares what constitutes a game looking goodThis thinking is super flawed. Games don't look worse as a gen moves along. It's like saying games like Tony Hawk's American Wasteland were everything that the Xbox 360 was capable of.
Games get more demanding and ::gasp:: look better as a gen progresses. There's literally no (successful) console that has had games look worse as the console got older.
They are... every game in last gen are blurry.Ac4 look and ran great on the Xbox. Also ryse look great on my Panasonic plasma. Where did this nonsense about looking blurry come from. If that's the case every game last gen was a blurry mess.

No 360 game came close to offering walls as exquisitely detailed as these...
Ummm.. Did you even read his post? I know you're an avid Xbox defender, but he's talking about resolution, not looks (graphics). This thinking is super flawed. His point still stands. Both GTA5 and Halo 4 ran at 720p on the 360 and looked better than anything else on the system.Ummm.. Did you even read his post? I know you're an avid Xbox defender, but he's talking about resolution, not looks (graphics).

Examples of games with big leaps in graphical power while raising the rendering resolution? (note that it's a comparison, so both the 360/PS3 versions need to be taken into direct comparison). His point still stands even if it's restricted to resolution. The last several generations saw games with increasing resolution, as time and development experience moved on.

That is off-topic since the initial comparison was Xbox One relative to PS4 version.Halo 3 (640p) to halo 4 (720p) easy.

Because remember, the initial comparison was resolution increase relative to the competitor console (which is stronger).
I am not talking about graphics, I'm talking about relative resolutions. You just finished saying he was wrong because he was talking about resolution, not graphics. Now you're talking about graphics.
No.

I'm not moving any goal posts, your aim was just way off from the start.
I am not talking about graphics, I'm talking about relative resolutions.
Keep going. This is a lot like the last argument we had. Remember?I'm not moving any goal posts, your aim was just way off from the start.
Where am I talking about graphics?Holy heck, goal posts.

Since this is an NVIDIA tech trailer, wouldn't that mean that these effects are only available on PC?New Footage. Watch Dogs - NVIDIA Tech Trailer

Screen-grab from a leaked comparison video.
There won't be a notice difference, especially at 900p.

Welcome to why comparison threads don't work on GAF at all whatsoever.
Or why GAF shouldn't work on comparison threads. Take your pick.
900p vs. 1080p.

Right here, where you say, in response to someone saying that the visuals (graphics) of games improve, rather than degrading over the course of a system's life:
When I pointed out that it was true of resolution as well, you responded with:

Would totally play a game that had that Xbone version art style.
I'd take the one on the bottom everytime.
See what I did there?
Stop this. It's stupid. Games get better looking as the generation progresses. A first party game running at 640p early in the generation (halo 3) looked worse than a third party game running at 720p late in the generation (GTA V).How am I moving goal posts when I'm asking YOU and not Bgamer to provide proof of YOUR claim? You say it's the same for resolution but then you go on to say I'm moving goalposts instead of providing proof?
